Apparently a woman spent 8 hours in a cell/being interviewed by the police for a "transphobic" Tweet along the lines of TWAW. Can't bring myself to buy the Mail tomorrow to check the details, but it may be taken up by other papers.

Did she necessarily send the texts to herself? Plenty of numbers have the same first 5 digits. Or am I missing something?

FlyingOink · 10/02/2019 16:15

McTufty
Occam's razor here I think. What's more likely, an attention hungry drama queen cocking up or someone getting hold of Hayden's personal number mid-drama?
Of course, it's possible the angry texter has the same first five digits but I'd put money on it being Hayden

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 10/02/2019 16:17

I agree flying

The same first 5 digits seems lika bit of a happy coincidence

nauticant · 10/02/2019 16:18

There are a lot of UK mobile prefixes:

www.area-codes.org.uk/mobile/

It would be a coincidence for two unrelated mobiles to share the same one.

nauticant · 10/02/2019 16:21

Although having looked at the original tweet I'm wondering whether the same number is simply duplicated in 2 different fields.

RockyFlintstone · 10/02/2019 16:28

Yes, I think it's this. I don't think Stephanie would be that stupid.

happydappy2 · 10/02/2019 16:34

that article has 70k shares.

Is shocking the police kept the womans laptop & phone for 2 months because of complaints by a bullying individual.

RockyFlintstone · 10/02/2019 16:41

There are approx 4700 comments on the Daily Mail FB page under this article. A quick look shows the average comment number on there ranges between about 50 and 500. Pretty much all of the comments are, ahem, critical to say the least, made by people who obviously have no fucks to give.

FlyingOink · 10/02/2019 16:44

That's a long list! I remember when it was a four digit prefix and you could tell which network it was according to that.
So 100/1 odds on the same five digits and what odds on the text having such impeccable timing?
Seems a long shot that it wasn't Hayden.

Carowiththegoodhair · 10/02/2019 16:57

This is going to be the thing that energises the public, judging by my twitter mentions/inbox which has been going beserk this week.

I thought it was going to be the transing of children which is at least as important as free speech.

Look at the 3 major headlines today:

  1. separate trans wings in prison
  2. challenge to university over de-transitioners and bang
  3. mum jailed for misgendering

There’s a saying among Christians that the devil always overplays his hand. The TRAs only gave themselves to blame for these headlines. There’s lots of inevitable wailing about hate instead of actual engagement with the content.

Not even the Wail anticipated this reaction which is why they had to rush it online. I do hope no naughty MNer tipped them off. Grin

Happy Days. Though Flowers to Sarah who should never have been put through this.

Carowiththegoodhair · 10/02/2019 17:05

Sorry, meant Kate!! Blame the Sunday Wine

Has anyone mentioned Steph boasting about being the first person to get an injunction for misgendering. Injunctions aren’t cheap (as I sadly have discovered). Wonder who is funding this?

scotsheather · 10/02/2019 17:08

Its possible said woman had some history with police and the justice system. That can make a seemingly trivial case taken more seriously. Still shocking however you look at it.

RockyFlintstone · 10/02/2019 17:10

What SMS format is that that Stephanie has screenshotted? Is it iPhone? I don't recognise it.

youllhavehadyourtea · 10/02/2019 17:13

Caro - I don't understand why your story has not also been covered in the press. Vicar's Wife Harassed by TRAs makes an excellent headline....

Popchyk · 10/02/2019 17:19

scots,

Hayden has history with the police and the justice system. A long one spanning many years and many offences.

And yet the police and justice system are falling over themselves to do Hayden's bidding now.

Can't help but wonder whether some forces are actually in the dark about Hayden's past identities and offences.

Well, they won't be now.

Carowiththegoodhair · 10/02/2019 17:24

I’m intrigued by the sock puppeting aspect here.

My loony tune set up over 10 different twitter accounts to harass me in a 4-5 week period. On one day he sent me 117 tweets. He outed my address and his friend told an egregious lie about my being a pedophile. In fact she sent over 4 different tweets accusing me of posting naked photos of her children to my ‘pedophile followers’ and ‘making sexual comments like a typical RC.’

Had someone taken that seriously the consequences for us do not bear thinking about. I told the police, gave them the screenshots and they did diddley squat.

Basically the reason that NFA is being taken in my case (although I have had no official communication confirming this) is because they don’t think it’s serious enough to merit forensic IT. But obviously misgendering does.

sackrifice · 10/02/2019 17:45

wow.

SunsetBeetch · 10/02/2019 17:47

It's disgusting Caro, it really is xxx

I know Kate personally - have done since we were teenagers.

She doesn’t have a dodgy past and as the article says, is studying for a masters in forensic psychology - ie, she planned on working alongside the police, not against them!

She is a strong, forthright woman who doesn’t give in to bullies.

I’ve no reason to believe she’s been sock puppeting (with two kids, one with ASD and a masters to study for, who would have time?) although I don’t doubt she would reregister when suspended or habitually name-change (a fairly standard practice in various corners of the internet, including here on Mumsnet).

I won’t say anymore because the legal case isn’t yet resolved, but from a personal reference point of view, Kate was the wrong Feminist to pick on, as I’ve known her for over 20 years and I have never known her to do anything but stand her ground.

Needmoresleep · 10/02/2019 17:56

I think the American angle is going to be very interesting. The cultural differences are obvious. Over medicalisation, at least from a British perspective is common (and my experience is from dementia patients, not even trans-kids) but free speech is sacrosanct.

CircleofWillis · 10/02/2019 18:26

How do I find iron FB? I’ve gone to the daily mail fb page but the story hasn’t appeared and there isn’t a search option.

CircleofWillis · 10/02/2019 18:27

It on

Datun · 10/02/2019 18:28

Hayden was more interested in asking how someone had got their number, in that I-inadvertently-sent-myself-a-threat-tweet.

Implying that whoever might have their number, because of this case, has shared it. Is that an attempt to incriminate Kate even further, I wonder?

Datun · 10/02/2019 18:29

Yes, I'm struggling with this too, for some reason. A link would be awfully appreciated, if possible.

RockyFlintstone · 10/02/2019 18:31

If you type 'daily mail transgender' into your FB search it comes up.
