Apparently a woman spent 8 hours in a cell/being interviewed by the police for a "transphobic" Tweet along the lines of TWAW. Can't bring myself to buy the Mail tomorrow to check the details, but it may be taken up by other papers.

Vitriol? Confused

remainymcremainface · 10/02/2019 14:09

I was referring to the sanitary towel business in my first post, yes.

I agree that there is certainly more to this than we are reading, hat is obvious, hence no one knows what happened, bubblegum included!

McTufty · 10/02/2019 14:09

've just been on Twitter, and Stephanie is getting a really hard time today. I know that they aren't a nice person, but we shouldn't be supporting or laughing at this. A lot of the comments they're getting (albeit not from any GC feminists) are transphobic. We need to condemn them because we need to be better than Stephanie is

I agree. I am furious that Stephanie Hayden uses the police as ideological enforcers at a time when actual crimes are not being investigated. But all the tweets basically just saying “you’re a bloke ha ha” are childish, cruel and unnecessary.

TRAs seem to think that if a woman has an opinion they don’t like it makes them fair game to threaten etc. I don’t like Stephanie but I don’t think sending gratuitous abuse to her is OK.

FlyingOink · 10/02/2019 14:10

We would all liked to know the truth unfortunately there is an injunction.
Hayden is the ultimate vexatious litigant (IMO) but seems to cock up from time to time. So I have some faith that we'll find more out than Hayden intended, at some point.

Iused2BanOptimist · 10/02/2019 14:10

which I found her blog a little offensive, was OTT

A factual blog mostly about what happens to bodies after death. You need to watch more Silent Witness. Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 10/02/2019 14:10

I'm not sure the vitriol aimed at a poster for admitting to being a copper and stating that this doesn't ring true in her opinion is necessary

I dont doubt bubble is correct in her view of what's happening...being on the coal face as it were

I do doubt she knows what every police officer does

Iused2BanOptimist · 10/02/2019 14:11

I'm also awaiting with interest to see how many people get put in Twitter jail after today.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 10/02/2019 14:12

hence no one knows what happened, bubblegum included!

Isn't it inferred that bubble come automatically knows more because of 'experience'?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 10/02/2019 14:12

bubblegum.

Comments have disappeared off the article now

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/02/2019 14:13

I don’t like Hayden either (although I admire her a little for taking legal action against that vile POS Linehan!).

Interesting - may I ask what brings you to the conclusion Mr. Linehan is a ‘vile POS?’

McTufty · 10/02/2019 14:14

But the fact is, if a court has issued an injunction preventing this woman from contacting her because of harassment, Hayden must have shown the court evidence and the woman would have been invited to contest it at court

No @Bubblegum849. She has an interim injunction. It’s basically a holding position till the case can be decided. The court hasn’t heard all the evidence and decided that harassment has occurred, and a final injunction is warranted.

Stephanie Hayden doesn’t let on about this, same way she doesn’t let on that the “harassment warning” @glinner received doesn’t mean the police found wrongdoing either. It’s just an administrative way of dealing with a complaint without fully investigating. Either she doesn’t understand this or she is deliberately misleading people.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 10/02/2019 14:16

Either she doesn’t understand this or she is deliberately misleading people.

How dare you speak to bubblegum this way, this is a police officer, don't you know they are better than you and have ''experience''?

FlyingOink · 10/02/2019 14:17

Bubblegum wrote twice "I don't believe that..."
It's an opinion.
For that she's had "I don't trust any police", "you are complicit" "no smoke without fire attitude" and "Nothing in any of your posts suggest "experience".

I consider that fairly vitriolic, yeah. Clearly some posters are not fans of the police, that's fine. But don't jump on a poster who has added relevant information and her opinion and hold her accountable for everything the police do wrong. It'll only put off any other lurker or poster who happens to be a copper from giving their view and sharing their experience.

McTufty · 10/02/2019 14:18

No sorry I meant Stephanie Hayden is misinformed or misleading! Not bunblegum849, who I think was speaking about the sanitary protection issue and not professing litigation expertise.

ToeToToe · 10/02/2019 14:19

We only have Bubblegum's word on here that they are a police officer.

We also know that some police officers have shown extremely bad judgement recently - for example ringing up Margaret about her blog, for which they've now apologised.

"although I admire her a little for taking legal action against that vile POS Linehan!"

^ The mask is slipping. I don't think many FWR regulars think Glinner is a "POS" !

remainymcremainface · 10/02/2019 14:20

So bubblegum has an opinion. But responses to that opinion are "vitriol".

Why are the responses not differing opinions?

Honestly none of that you quoted is "vitriol". That's genuinely laughable!

Datun · 10/02/2019 14:20

The sanitary protection issue, surely could be proven either way? I believe Kate said she had to free bleed. All the police have to do is deny it. Have they?

LangCleg · 10/02/2019 14:20

She has an interim injunction.

Important point to miss when you join a website specifically to provide commenters with expertise and wisdom!

Welcome to MN, Bubble!

I really like Glinner, btw.

FlyingOink · 10/02/2019 14:26

We only have Bubblegum's word on here that they are a police officer.
True, but she's added to the conversation. I disagreed with her earlier and wrote It's not all nice people, who follow the rules.
So whilst everything you are saying might be true, and the arrested woman might well have broken other laws, Hayden is still a piece of work who bragged about Hayden's ability to sic the police on people Hayden disagrees with.

And I like Linehan's work, but disagreed with him on the "Nazi pug". So we're not all in agreement on him, although I wouldn't refer to him as a POS.
Honestly none of that you quoted is "vitriol". That's genuinely laughable!
We will have to agree to disagree then I guess

remainymcremainface · 10/02/2019 14:28

Well it doesn't fit the dictionary definition, but feel free to use your own definition (that seems to be the thing to do these days).

GCAcademic · 10/02/2019 14:31

I think Bubble has been on here before with another nn. Specifically on a thread about WYP and the woman who was abducted and gang-raped, something which WYP deemed not prosecutable because she was “mistaken” for a prostitute. Cropping up here to defend the indefensible and to deny the possibility that the police could ever do anything wrong seems a semi-regular occurrence for police officers whenever there is a thread like this.

CatandtheFiddle · 10/02/2019 14:34

This makes me so angry.

A dear friend of mine was told by her local police that there was nothing they could do until her abusive violent exH actually attacked her. The fact that he was stalking her children and harassing her via phone (constantly redialling for hours every time he got her new number) seemed to count for little.

Two women a week are murdered. By men. And police spend their time on this sort of vexatious complaint.

I’m remembering what sometonce said: That women can’t afford to realise how much men hate them. I think Germaine Greer said that about 30 years ago.

I’m so angry abou this. Is there anything we can do?

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 10/02/2019 14:36

Personally I think your refusal to accept these thing happen makes you worse than naive. It makes you complicit

Absolutely

vitriol do me a favour. Hmm

Popchyk · 10/02/2019 14:37

Titania McGrath has retweeted the Mail on Sunday article on Twitter.

twitter.com/TitaniaMcGrath/status/1094585991308951552

"If you don’t think there’s a major problem with transphobia in this country, how do you explain this?

This foul bigot only got SEVEN HOURS in prison for a transphobic tweet.

They should have thrown away the key..."
