Apparently a woman spent 8 hours in a cell/being interviewed by the police for a "transphobic" Tweet along the lines of TWAW. Can't bring myself to buy the Mail tomorrow to check the details, but it may be taken up by other papers.

Bubblegum, I think you're being very naive to not believe it happened just because it shouldn't happen.

I have no idea what happened, I wasn't there, but I'm not naive enough to believe that all in authority follow all rules and procedures to the letter at all times.

Well, I don’t trust the police in the slightest, Bubblegum, nor do I have any faith in their treatment of women (and this has been bourne out of long observation of the lack of priority given to VAWG vs indecent haste to respond to Twitter offence declared by TRAs) so I guess were at an impasse in terms of our respective disbelief, aren’t we?

Yes, having seen what's been going on recently I think it's naïve to assume that without grounds firmly granted in criminal law the police wouldn't have acted.

The police have been phoning people up over things that the police say are not crimes and telling people that their thinking is at fault.

They didn’t “caution” the elderly lady. They rang her to make her aware complaints had been made. Which, which I found her blog a little offensive, was OTT.

You’re telling me I’m naïve when I’m talking about something I do literally every day? 🙄

I’m a police officer
Personally, I know quite a few. 90% are great people doing a difficult job. 10% are not.
The worst workplace bullying I've ever heard of was in the police. Two separate forces. It's not all nice people, who follow the rules.
So whilst everything you are saying might be true, and the arrested woman might well have broken other laws, Hayden is still a piece of work who bragged about Hayden's ability to sic the police on people Hayden disagrees with.
I don't think people are taking an anti-police view on this, I might be wrong but the focus appears to be on Hayden.

I didn't say they cautioned her.

Ringing people up is actually worse than cautioning because it implies that the police are harassing people and threatening free speech when they know very well they have no grounds to.

Good to hear your police station has adopted the recommendations made in this report.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42556384

Are you confident that they have been adopted country wide?

Also there have been numerous people questioned for "misgendering". There was even a conviction, thankfully overturned, to a man who said "awright mate" to a trans woman in the street.

Is it impossible for the police to break the law?
Or act unlawfully?

Personally I think your refusal to accept these thing happen makes you worse than naive. It makes you complicit.

But you didn't do this arrest, that's the bloody point. Just because you follow all the rules and procedures to the letter every single time, do you honestly believe every other police officer also does, really?

I think that's a bit of a stretch

I don’t like Hayden either (although I admire her a little for taking legal action against that vile POS Linehan!).

But the fact is, if a court has issued an injunction preventing this woman from contacting her because of harassment, Hayden must have shown the court evidence and the woman would have been invited to contest it at court.

Nothing adds up in this story IMO.

I'm sure more will come to light

It's good to see a Member of the police taking a "no smoke without fire" attitude. What could possibly go wrong with that Hmm

Bubblegum849 · 10/02/2019 14:03

Complicit? Lol. I’ve given plenty of sanitary towels and tampons to female detainees. I’ve also had the deeply unpleasant task of strip searching women who choose not to use any sanitary protection. I offered products to them too Smile

The RollonFriday threads.

The first one details the legal proceedings that this person has initiated against 5 different people.

The second one covers this person subsequently suing Graham Linehan and Mumsnet.

Scroll down to the bottom of the comments on the second one. There are threats of violence.

No remainy, it’s called having experience in these matters and knowing what is required to obtain a court injunction. The story just doesn’t make any sense.

I think the police officer has made valid points. And that there is probably more to this story than meets the eye.
I'm not sure the vitriol aimed at a poster for admitting to being a copper and stating that this doesn't ring true in her opinion is necessary.
I just want to know the truth. Not the version of the story that is most useful to us politically.

Thank you FlyingOink. It will be interesting to follow this case, particularly if it goes to court.

We would all liked to know the truth unfortunately there is an injunction.

I think remainy was referring to the sanitary towel business

Just because you do it right bubble doesn't mean that every officer does

Nothing in any of your posts suggest "experience".

A little bit of knowledge is so much more dangerous than none.
