Forgotten (again) how to do clicky links in an OP and don't have a share token anyway, but the Times is saying that the Scottish Permanent secretary put out a tweet talking about "privileged" "cisgender" people with a photo of herself with Scottish trans alliance and mermaids!

And aaarrgh! That's meant to be tweet in title! How do I get MN to change that?

“Cosla, the umbrella group for councils, has recently been found to be instructing officials to replace “sex” with “gender” in formal documents and correspondence, although gender is not a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.”

” Green, policy manager at Cosla, said in a message circulated to all Scottish local authorities last July that this was informed by the Scottish government’s position which “confirmed that they speak about gender rather than sex and are moving towards a non-binary definition”.”

Bloody hell. Things in Scotland moving at a clip in an illegal direction.

Telling people that they are "priviliged " really really just pisses people off.

I've never come across a situation where some random person on Twitter changes anyone's mind by shouting PRIVILIGED at them.

TimeLady · 06/02/2019 07:48

Report your post, Alice, and the mods will change it Grin It had me puzzled.

howonearthdidwegethere · 06/02/2019 07:53

Why is The Times piece so coy about saying who was at the Scottish Govt meeting from Mermaids?

I remember seeing the tweet at the time. Photo definitely of Susie Green.

What does it even mean? “Recognise the ways that being cisgender allows you to access washrooms, health care, or transcripts with ease. Think about the entitlements you take for granted which others must fight.”

Transcripts? Eh?

Apart from that weird bit, that poster basically reads as a charter for coercive control.

(((Scottish Women)))

McTufty · 06/02/2019 08:07

Has the tweet gone? Keeps saying something went wrong when I click on the link

boatyardblues · 06/02/2019 08:18

Anyone got share tokens for the articles above? I’ve used up my free articles.

AbsintheFriends · 06/02/2019 08:21

Transcripts??

It really feels like they're desperately searching for non-existent ways in which transpeople are oppressed.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/02/2019 08:29

I wasn’t sure if it was just not knowing Scottish vernacular but it sounded American to my ears

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 06/02/2019 08:32

Thanks MNHQ and Time lady!

Yes, the real extraordinary privilege is thinking that the most women have to worry about is getting transcripts. Not needing dignity, privacy & safety; or worrying about assault; or discrimination because they're pregnant. That all pales next to transcripts!

milkmoustache · 06/02/2019 08:41

The amazing privilege of getting access to a "washroom" with a sanpro bin. Yes, I can see why that's such a glittering prize... But when it comes to the "transcript", I am completely foxed!

HomeStar · 06/02/2019 08:45

Haha, because women never have any problems accessing healthcare.

Oh fuck this, that’s just too angering to joke about. Seven years the average diagnosis time for endometriosis, post-natal healthcare a fucking joke and meanwhile transwomen get their electrolysis funded on the NHS. Cis privilege!

Not to mention the additional barriers the trans rights movement is placing in the way of women getting adequate healthcare: confusing language which is exclusionary to less-educated and ESOL women, removing the choice to work with female health care providers, creating a huge risk of rape and sexual abuse by reintroducing same-sex hospital wards and mental health wards by stealth.

Cis privilege FTW.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 06/02/2019 08:45

'Scotland’s top civil servant has urged “privileged” non-transgender people to recognise how easily they can access things such as washrooms and healthcare.'

1, is washrooms used commonly in Scotland?
2, access to toilets for women in UK is an issue since so many public ones got shut, and women and various points need them more frequently and urgently. This stops or reduces some womens ability to get out and about. Also massive queues. Which can prevent women going to stuff ie engaging in public life

This woman is a clueless twonk and needs to check her privilege!

Melroses · 06/02/2019 08:50

Surprised Scotland need the services of a lobbyist in Leeds. Is there no home-grown gender lobbyist to correct them?

The access to transcripts is puzzling. Confused They obviously must mean something else but I'm *&^%$$£ed if I can work it out.

morningtoncrescent62 · 06/02/2019 08:57

Erm, what's a transcript and how do I access one? I'm not aware of having ever accessed one, but maybe that's because I'm so cis-privileged that I've been taking it for granted all these years. Confused

boatyardblues · 06/02/2019 09:06

I’ve seen transcripts used in educational settings, particularly in the US, to mean the record of a student’s academic achievement. Sounds American to me.

Polestar50 · 06/02/2019 09:06

The only think I can think of is she meant to say prescription??

OrchidInTheSun · 06/02/2019 09:06

We've all been talking our easy access to transcripts for granted for years. So privileged we didn't even notice!

Melroses · 06/02/2019 09:10

prescription That sounds possible, although I do not think being trans interferes with getting prescriptions - maybe getting the doctor to prescribe something you want though but that is not unusual.

Needmoresleep · 06/02/2019 09:11

Note the use of both pronouns, she and he, in the second article. Can the victims mother who was quoted, expect a visit from the police. I thought the Scottish police were clamping down on hate.
