Forgotten (again) how to do clicky links in an OP and don't have a share token anyway, but the Times is saying that the Scottish Permanent secretary put out a tweet talking about "privileged" "cisgender" people with a photo of herself with Scottish trans alliance and mermaids!

I can still see the tweet McTufty. I haven't got a sub boatyard -normally I can share my email and that brings up a share token but it's not now. Does this work? www.thetimes.co.uk/article/top-civil-servant-s-tweet-leads-to-accusations-of-pro-trans-bias-0w8fqgbcm

Transcript means university records - my UK university used the word.

Although I can’t see why trans people would have any more difficulty accessing their transcripts than anyone else who changed their name. I guess the problem is that they might get “outed” as trans by their documents? Given that few trans people pass to the extent where that could be a genuine concern, and even some of that minority are open about being trans, and how often do you even need a transcript anyway... this seems like an inconvenience not a human rights issue.

Dothehappydance · 06/02/2019 09:49

I have read this tweet before, and it is likely to be American. There is no doubt that in some states those who are trans have difficulty accessing some services.

It can not be taken and used in the UK because on the whole these issues are either non existent or apply to everyone.

MillytantForceit · 06/02/2019 09:54

Trans-scripts are Real Scripts. Endof.

nauticant · 06/02/2019 09:58

That was my assumption too Polestar50. "Script" is a slang term in US* English for "prescription" so I wonder if she'd picked up some slang (or "cleverly" invented some) to refer to a prescription for gender transition purposes.

  • yes, US language again
Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 06/02/2019 10:17

So civil servant is retweeting US propaganda to influence Scottish policy while promoting a lobby group (paid a lot by the Scottish government) and a dubious charity that is enthusiastic about getting minors on medication. That seems perfectly reasonable...

The poster is produced by the 519 Space for Change according to the logo in the bottom right. It's based in Toronto and runs a whole programme of trans focused activities www.the519.org/programs/category/trans-specific

So nothing to do with Scotland whatsoever. What a knob this woman is.

Good work, orchid. How unbelievably lazy to cut'n'paste propoganda from Canada.

Dothehappydance · 06/02/2019 12:11

That's it, I remember it now.

Just doesn't work in the UK

McTufty · 06/02/2019 12:13

Thanks orchid Smile

I suppose accessing your school or college records might be difficult if you've changed your name and refuse to utter your dead one.

I mean the exams officers are meant to be psychic and know you can't use the name you used as a student as it is literal violence.

WokeNotBloke · 06/02/2019 13:35

Wasn’t this tweeted before mermaids got their big lottery grant withdrawn for review?

Civil servants are prohibited by the civil service code from being political, so one would assume the permanent secretary viewed this an uncontroversial, eg like support world cancer day or wishing everyone a happy new year

theOtherPamAyres · 06/02/2019 13:41

Ministers and governments come and go, but the enduring presence and 'insider knowledge' of civil servants ensures that the push for Trans continues.

It is civil servants who develop partnerships and nurture relationships with lobbyists, not ministers. It is rare to hear a civil servant trotting out the Stonewall party line about single-gender spaces rather than single-sex ones - but here we have it. Here is the evidence of a mindset intent on replacing 'sex' with 'gender identity'.

If we thought that the fight to retain our rights was being won, then this powerful civil servant's words should strike fear in our hearts. We have a long, long way to go.

WokeNotBloke · 06/02/2019 14:48

Civil servants move around the office frequently precisely so they don’t get too embroiled with particular stakeholders. They tend to be a sensible lot too. I think the issue here is that there has so little challenge to trans activism, that it’s been overlooked as a problematic position.

MargueritaPink · 06/02/2019 15:06

Script" is a slang term in US English for "prescription"*

My pharmacist friends in Edinburgh and Aberdeen use "script" - it's not a US thing.

I have no idea what she meant by transcripts.

Leslie Evans' light has been somewhat diminished by the Alex Salmond fiasco.

Totally weird.
