Being investigated at work

I know this isn't a FWR issue as such, but it is pertinent to the trans debate.
There was an article a couple of months ago in the Daily Mail about a transwoman complaining about the NHS not providing electolysis; I was discussing this article with a colleague and I said something along the lines of that it wasn't fair to other hirsute women if they weren't allowed to have electolysis on the NHS.
It seems that someone overheard the conversation and reported me to my bosses. An informal investigation, "a fact finding chat", has taken place and I am currently waiting to see if this is going to be takem further. FFS.
If it is taken further then I am going to defend myself with all I've got; I am prepared to die on this hill.

So sorry, Millipede. Hope it goes OK.

HollowTalk · 30/01/2019 18:22

This is so reminiscent of Hitler Youth snitching on their parents, isn't it?

CryptoFascist · 30/01/2019 18:26

Watching. Solidarity. How can this be happening?

Be VERY careful what you admit to.
The likely outcome is you'll be told off for unsubstantiated hearsay, and possibly a verbal warning.

Absolutely try to avoid detailing what was said and explain you can only really recall a conversation about electrolysis and hair. Nothing about gender, but if you said 'woman' it wasn't exclusionary in any way.

Can't help but feel someone's looking to be offended for the sake of it, but we're only hearing one side of a story, and the information is scant.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 30/01/2019 18:33

Solidarity.

eurochick · 30/01/2019 18:53

The Lives of Others springs to mind.

Oxytocindeficient · 30/01/2019 19:00

This is absolutely ridiculous.

NameChanger22 · 30/01/2019 19:04

They'll be sending the police round next. Women aren't allowed to have opinions in the workplace.

tubspreciousthings · 30/01/2019 19:42

Solidarity. This is fucking ridiculous.

Also sending support, what a load of nonsense. Stand firm, we are still allowed free speech in this country. Just about! Hope it blows over quickly, sorry you're going through this.

HalloumiGus · 30/01/2019 20:19

Disgusted and outraged for you Flowers

seazer · 30/01/2019 20:19

SisterWendyBuckett · 30/01/2019 20:24

Am so sorry this utter crap has invaded your life Thanks

Just what the hell is going on right now - it's like a collective madness has descended.

BigChocFrenzy · 30/01/2019 20:38

So sorry you have this hanging over you 💐

but furious too: that is bloody ridiculous and you are being bullied

Is this idiotic snitch service just in the UK public sector ?
Too reminiscent of how dictatorships work

I've worked only for large tech firms in the Uk & Germany since the mid-1980s and I've never found this ridiculous snitching
You would have to genuinely say something hateful about transwomen, or people of colour etc in any place I worked, to be reported.
No digging down deep into ways of being offended

Well, clearly those reporting and investigating don't think TW are women, if theyr'e investigating your opinion that it's unfair some women receive paid electolysis and some don't.

I could say, couldn't I, that It would be unfair if some women received paid dermal fillers and some didn't?

How is the OP's comment different?

It's only different in the ear of the listener or the mouth of the interregator if they themselves believe one of the comparators "women" in the sentence is not the same as the other.

Lichtie · 30/01/2019 20:58

OP did you not already have a post last month about being in trouble for posting stuff on Facebook negative about your work? Sure you said you were openly GC on your Facebook... Strange they didn't investigate it then if that's their attitude.

Milliepede · 30/01/2019 23:42

@ Lichtie. Yes I am openly GC and I do link GC articles BUT I only frame my point as we all do, with respect and compassion for those poor souls that are suffering GD and take such extreme measures to alleviate their distress. I also mention proper studies when I am discussing the issue. I dont use threats, insults or any derogatory language. Perhaps they heard me say that I didnt agree with TWAW, that's the only thing that could have been even remotely "contoversial".

AnduinsGirl · 30/01/2019 23:46

Supportive arm round shoulder.
What absolute nonsense this all is.

RaininSummer · 30/01/2019 23:53

What a ridiculous thing to be hauled over the coals for. It is bloody unfair. I hope you are OK OP.
