However - those of us who do use Twitter are aware of the onslaught there has recently been on self-proclaimed paedophiles on Twitter. It's very worrying indeed - these people are demanding 'acceptance'.

Cantor is reprehensible. There are ways to argue for prevention

It's nonetheless working to
i) broaden awareness of his name/wokeness which is quite tricky given how entrenched this stuff is in Canada;
ii) boost his self-satisfaction at his own rationality and precise use of language that others are too emotional to accept at the value of its semantic precision.

He's arguing for access to provision for remediation plus the wider principle of universal basic human rights.

Trolls have been posing as members of the LGBTQ community for years. They lobby for "P" to be added to the LGBTQ umbrella as a means of turning the public against LGBTQ groups. It's fairly effective, too.

The goal is to make it appear as if the gay community supports pedophilia, beastiality and other depravities - because if they do, it means the "risks" of the anti-gay groups were real all along.

The gay community has it within its power to counter this by supporting safeguarding of children and speaking out loudly against anyone who suggests otherwise (e.g. girlguiding)

I also think its not on to state all of this is trolls making miscoef. Short of thorough investigation and analysis, you have zero evidence to assert that is what’s currently happening on Twitter. And even if only 5%, say, are genuine we still have a problematic population operating and recruiting in plain sight.

You're being obtuse. The burden of proof isn't on me to prove that there IS NOT an issue (despite that, I've provided evidence). It's on each individual to critically evaluate an issue before ignorantly jumping on the bandwagon.

You do realise that the very action of sharing and discussing this topic here (without taking even basic precautions to ensure it's not misinformation), stands only to amplify this story - thus helping the trolls to achieve their goal.

"Ineedacupofteadesperately" - bizarre take. Why would the LGBTQ community amplify this story. Again, that serves to benefit nobody except the trolls. It's YOUR responsibility to not absorb and accept as true all information that happens to confirm your existing biases.

It's quite possible that all these pro-paedophile tweets are by trolls. But does it matter? They are posting pro-paedophile content on Twitter. Unless Twitter believes in complete freedom of expression, which it clearly doesn't, there's a strong case for removing the tweets.

Despite being a very clever chap, James Cantor seems to be taking the tweets at face value.

Yes, there are groups of bigots who want to smear LGBT.

But, that's not the whole picture, and if you ignore the presence and influence of paedophiles, convincing yourself that there's nothing to worry about here, then you're opening the door to paedophiles, who will abuse the naivety of people like you.

For example, in the 80s, in Islington in London, gay men were encouraged to apply for, and work with children. Most gay men, same as most men, are not a risk to children, of course. But what happened in Islington was that the gay men were given positions in children's homes without proper background checks. The Equal Ops panel was allowed to overrule the recruiting panel and to influence the disciplinary process. Paedophiles noted this and moved in. Islington children's homes became overrun with paedophiles.

Ignoring safeguarding put children at risk, and children were abused.

There are also links to paedophiles through the furries scene, and there are links through some parts of trans culture and anime, to cartoon depictions of CSE and fetishisation and sexualisation of very young characters.

Jess Bradley, trans officer currently suspended from the NUS while investigations (supposedly) happen, was found to have a blog with images of flashing "her" erect penis in public alongside cartoons depicting rape of a child by his father.

Public figures such as Dr James Cantor are publicly saying they want the P included in LGBT.

The numbers of people caught downloading child sex abuse images are huge.

Paedophiles have a long history of trying to gain public acceptance in the UK. Have you heard of PIE? (The Paedophile Information Exchange?) The shocking thing is not so much the existence of PIE as a group, but how many people - including politicians - went along with their stance.

If you ignore the risk, and convince yourself that this is just a bigot's plot to smear LGBT, you put that very community at risk of infiltration as paedophiles target those positions that are above suspicion - teachers, priests, community leaders, and LGBT if you treat them as above suspicion also.

Twitter are making it very clear currently, that twitter is a place that paedophiles can network.

Even if some of the accounts are trolls, genuine paedophiles will quickly see that they can operate there.

I have no such responsibility, and I never said I assumed all the tweeters were real. Don't care if they're trolls or not, timetostepup explains why very well..

It is my responsibility to protect my children, and ensuring pro-paedophile tweets aren't allowed to stand, plus challenging breaches to safeguarding are both parts of that.

This is a common attack on 4chan. There might be other motivations but this is almost certainly one of them.

There are far more men willing to abuse children than we think. Some are not compelled to, but the evidence in terms of offending suggests the number one predictor for child sex abuse is sharing a bedroom with an adult male (hence why it is so high in poor communities) which suggests a lot of abuse is opportunistic.

Doubt it is just that. But that's part of the reason these accounts keep popping up. Does that create an environment paedophiles feel secure in? Probably. Does it encourage more to network? Probably. All those other things written are probably correct.
But I can say that the tactic of conflating paedophilia with homosexuality is a well-rounded one and it's clearly at work here.
