Church of England transgender blessings

You'll never guess what...

The policy announced today was drawn up by...three transwomen (who are priests), at least one of whom describes themselves as a trans lesbian.

The guidance was compiled in consultation with the Rev Dr Tina Beardsley, the Rev Sarah Jones and Canon Rachel Mann who said in a joint statement: “Collectively, we have sought to ensure that these new pastoral guidance notes provide a rich and generous space for trans people to locate their lives in the existing liturgy for the affirmation of baptismal faith."

In the meantime, the CofE won't marry gay couples.

Trans is more acceptable than gay, it seems, in a parallel world where wine can be turned into blood and everyone better believe it is real. (Or is that just the Catholic Church?)

This is all very patriarchal.

vaginafetishist · 11/12/2018 16:46

At the lecture Rachel Mann described being in a group of female priests who regularly meet with male priests who don't accept women's ordination. Rachel Mann took part in a march for 100 years of women's suffrage under a banner depicting them as Rosie the Riveter. Insight isn't a major gift here.

vaginafetishist · 11/12/2018 16:47

Yes a massive no from me too.

I can never get my head around being able to hold the belief that "God is infallible, omnipotent, all-wise", and yet could manage to put a soul in the wrong body. Or is it minimum wage angels on the assembly line these days?

Mind, I fell out with the church as a teenager when nobody would answer, orveven engage with my question "what if Christians are wrong and Muslims, or Hindus, are right?" Hmm so what do I know.

Squall · 11/12/2018 17:00

From a c of e standpoint, I really can’t imagine that they are really drinking blood. It is quite clearly a representation.

How this relates to men believing that men can be women is not something that I can explain, though.

userblablabla · 11/12/2018 17:00

Ah another thread full of calling trans women ‘men in frocks.’ But mumsnet is NEVER transphobic, not at all.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/12/2018 17:03

But by the very nature of some of them being male bodied, and wearing a dress, in some cases this it a fact. Not transphobic but a fact.

userblablabla · 11/12/2018 17:07

Oh come on. You can’t truly believe that referring to trans women as ‘men in frocks’ isn’t transphobic? Seriously?

R0wantrees · 11/12/2018 17:08

Ah another thread full of calling trans women ‘men in frocks.’ But mumsnet is NEVER transphobic, not at all.

Its not full of what you claim.

Please stop with the false allegations.

userblablabla · 11/12/2018 17:14

R0wantrees there is several comments using that very term.

R0wantrees · 11/12/2018 17:15

full, several, a couple, one?

R0wantrees · 11/12/2018 17:15

#words matter

userblablabla · 11/12/2018 17:17

Not sure it matters. The point is that the transphobia, and constant denial of it, is getting tiring.

R0wantrees · 11/12/2018 17:25

It does matter because you've alleged that this thread is full of something that its not.
You've used that as proof that 'Mumsnet' is transphobic.
Its not civil to smear women like this.

This is the feminism and women's rights board.

userblablabla · 11/12/2018 17:27

Yes, and I read it because I’m a feminist who fights for women’s rights. Despite this, I still believe everyone, including trans people, deserves to be treated with respect.

HestiaParthenos · 11/12/2018 17:27

Christians don't really believe in the infallibility of their god these days.

Or they'd be a bit more busy protesting genetic engineering (humans think they can make better food plants than god the almighty? Pure hubris!) than bothering women who want to get an abortion, something that, for all I know, isn't explicitly forbidden in the Bible.

Creationists are more concerned with denying the existence of dinosaurs than with protesting the patenting of plants and animals.

On the whole, there's a tendency to want to punish sinners themselves (see pro-lifers murdering gynecologists) instead of trusting that god will do it.

Christians (yeah, NACALT, et cetera, but a lot of them) seem to think their god is a bumbling fool who doesn't get anything done without their assistance.

Unsurprising that he's now suspected of putting female souls in male bodies on a regular basis.

VickyEadie · 11/12/2018 17:27

A poster on a different thread has their posts deleted merely for pointing out what some people consider transphobia - actually accusing people of it on a thread is strictly forbidden.

R0wantrees · 11/12/2018 17:28

Despite this, I still believe everyone, including trans people, deserves to be treated with respect.

It seems rather disrespectful to make false allegations and smear vast numbers of women with such a blanket statement.

HandsOffMyRights · 11/12/2018 17:38

This announcement gained lots of publicity for the Church.

Call me sceptical, but anything to do with trabs sells.

HandsOffMyRights · 11/12/2018 17:38

Trans! Need to find my glasses.

AspieAndProud · 11/12/2018 17:39

Priests, trans or otherwise, have always been referred to as men in frocks. Deal with it.

Melamin · 11/12/2018 18:01

Don't they have a thing where they are 'defrocked' for dodgy going ons?

misscockerspaniel · 11/12/2018 18:02

Why is saying "males in frocks" transphobic?

misscockerspaniel · 11/12/2018 18:10

Is using the word "male" now deemed transphobic?
