Announcement about ManFriday

With great sadness the ManFriday team would like to announce that we have decided to hang up our beards and bring ManFriday to an end.
It's been a brilliant year and we've achieved so much but with the FPFW campaign and so much other things going on we feel the group has run it's course.

While we won't be actively campaigning our Twitter will remain open drawing attention to the cause and you can still buy feminist bags and badges on etsy and Facebook Wink

We'd like to thank everyone who has supported ManFriday right from the start, all the women that have worked in the background as well as those participating in direct action.

Thank you! Flowers

Thanks so much for all you did. Your humour while making a serious point was brilliant.

Can I request a one off Christmas special? You could identify as the Father Christmas!

ChattyLion · 21/11/2018 08:29

Doffing my cap to you chaps. Flowers

WrongSideOfHistory · 21/11/2018 08:44

Thank you for everything!

Needmoresleep · 21/11/2018 08:51

Enjoy your retirement, and thank you.

Perhaps our paths will cross in some London open air swimming pool.

Anlaf · 21/11/2018 08:59

The fridge magnets are tear-free. 😢

(Apols for my truncated message. A snoring man beside me was awoken by my tap tap tapping into mumsnet)

You should be so proud of what you've achieved! Incredible campaign.

What did that man at Hampstead Ponds say- something like "That's a WOMAN, with a BEARD"

Well done you brave things!

R0wantrees · 21/11/2018 09:03

Thank you all so much.
It has been such a brilliant and incredibly effective campaign.
Star Star Star Star Star

Very best wishes, Flowers & Gin

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/11/2018 09:11

It was an incredibly successful campaign because it was so simple and so funny.

It got the message out in a way that probably nothing else would have. We love to take the piss in this country, and we love the humour of the pantomime dame. Doing it the other way round (the beard and mankini were inspired) made everyone laugh while skilkfully revealing the nonsense of Self ID.

Brilliant, you 🌟 🌟 🌟 s

JeanMichelBisquiat · 21/11/2018 09:11

Thank you so much, chaps. The grace and humour and intelligence with which you undertook to give us all a voice are really humbling. You've been properly brave.

Mytholmroyd · 21/11/2018 09:11

Thankyou all for an inspired and clever campaign done with persistence, grace and good humour.

Much love Flowers

Wrathofjurgenklop · 21/11/2018 09:26

I watched the interviews about the Hampstead pools.
You really put yourselves out there in what must have been very uncomfortable.
Not an easy or frivolous task at all.

You opened my eyes to the bias on mainstream TV.
You opened my eyes to the seriousness of what should never happen.
You opened my eyes to the ridiculous and mealy mouthed backlash on Twitter.

Thankyou thankyou Flowers

ApplesinmyPocket · 21/11/2018 09:36

Thank you.

When you faced out those angry chaps at the pool, managing great dignity in your bold choice of swimwear, I was so proud of you I nearly cried.

And I think you set something off. A change in the winds.

All the t-shirts have gone. Gutted.

Thank you gentlemen 《quivering upper lip, wipes away a manly tear then notices it isn't Friday and wails》

arranfan · 21/11/2018 11:32

Please, all of you, keep some merchandise for future exhibitions. I adore going to exhibitions now and seeing membership cards, posters, badges and T-shirts that I recall from my youth!

And, it will be politically important because this was such a small, grassroots, brave and often humorous thing to do!

YesItsADebate · 21/11/2018 13:30

Thanks for all the lovely messages. @SophoclesTheFox the blog post is here: manfridayuk.org/2018/11/20/a-job-well-done/ and gives a bit more info on the decision. Synopsis: we accomplished what we set out to do and other groups are better-positioned to take it from here. Plus, I don’t think the world can take any more photos of my bum/boobs in the papers Blush

A Christmas special you say...

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2018 13:37

Thank you for everything - good work, chaps! Star

Procrastinator1 · 21/11/2018 13:58

Thank you Man Friday. You, and I have to admit Pipps Bunce, opened my eyes to what is going on, and you did it with humour and good sense.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 21/11/2018 16:01

Thank you, ManFriday, for all of your hard work. You will be missed.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2018 16:25

Is there a female Bunce? A woman who says she’s a man a few days a week and their company bends over backwards to accommodate them, and she gets to use the men’s loos?

LikeDust · 21/11/2018 16:51

Interesting question penguin. It's hard to imagine a woman who felt entitled to be such a pain in the arse, but it's not impossible.

Melamin · 21/11/2018 16:54

Thank you.

It has been a good year. You have brought much joy and good humour to the debate. I hope that will continue.

That is a fantastic blog post 💙

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 21/11/2018 17:55

Thank you Man Friday. All accomplished with courage, humour and determination!

TorchesTorches · 21/11/2018 18:23

Thank you chaps. It was Hampstead Ponds that peaked me. You set me off complaining to the BBC, writing to my MP, filling in the consultation and spreading the word to my friends, to peak some more. Excellent domino effect from your work!

Thethiniceofanewday · 21/11/2018 21:37

Thank you for your bravery and for making the point with such wit and style. And beards.

BirdseyeFrozen · 21/11/2018 21:45

Peaked by Ponds
Thank you, and a manly handshake from me.
