Transwomen are women

Is a transphobic statement.

Why are we erasing trans identities?

It's also nonsense.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 18/11/2018 16:49

What's the point of your username then?

I understood from reading on the gov.uk website is that trans people are only protected if they retain the title trans. Give it up and aren’t they asking to be screwed over like the rest of us?

Sexnotgender · 18/11/2018 17:02

It's also nonsense.

I quite agree.

LiverpoolReSisters · 18/11/2018 17:36

Women don't have penises.

FekkoThePenguin · 18/11/2018 17:37

Cats are dogs. Caninephobic if you disagree.

AornisHades · 18/11/2018 17:38

OP is suggesting that by saying twaw people are pretending trans doesn't exist when trans does exist.

Marcipex · 18/11/2018 17:38

Yes fekko

FekkoThePenguin · 18/11/2018 17:41

Shhhh don’t tell anyone. But if twaw - that doesn’t make them special any more? Awwww, bless.

But still there’s so much to be grateful for. Less pay, overlooked at promotion time, spoken down to in many many situations, more likely to sugges domestic violence... who doesn’t want to be a woman?

TwistedStitch · 18/11/2018 17:41

Yep. There are many transwomen who acknowledge that they are not literally women. I've asked one of the more prolific 'TWAW' posters a few times why they seek to invalidate these people's identities. I've never received an answer.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 18/11/2018 17:45

My mum is my dad and my horse is my cat.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 18/11/2018 17:58

Transwomen are transwomen and should be allowed to say so. What they are is fine (which isn't meant to minimise how very difficult being trans must be for many people), it doesn't need a euphemism.

Xiaoxiong · 18/11/2018 18:07

I agree OP and the two transwomen I know would agree with this. I don't know their life, what they have been through, and what their experiences have been living their life as transwomen pre and post surgery. Their identities are unique and valuable, and to glibly say TWAW means that their identities and experiences are erased and conflated with something they didn't experience, namely growing up female with all of its attendant biological phenomena and female socialisation.

Electron1 · 18/11/2018 18:08

19% of people consider a person who was born male and has male genitalia but identifies as a woman to be a woman.
52% would consider this person to be a man.
20% don’t know, 7% consider this person to neither be a woman or a man and 3% prefer not to say.

RepealtheGRA · 18/11/2018 18:20

It absolutely scares the shit out of me that 19% of the public will bleat ‘some women have penises’ even when things are VERY clearly spelt out to them (as they were in that survey). That’s 1 in 5 people are completely devoid of critical thinking skills and could be convinced to say/think/DO anything at all. Terrifying.

Sexnotgender · 18/11/2018 18:49

OP is suggesting that by saying twaw people are pretending trans doesn't exist when trans does exist

That is exactly what I'm saying.

The logical conclusion of TWAW is that transwomen don't exist which is inherently transphobic as it denies their existence.

Absolutely. Being a transperson of either sex must be very difficult. I don't know their experiences and they don't know mine.

We are not the same AND THATS OK!

OP posts:
Thestral · 18/11/2018 19:01

It's almost like the people bleating TWAW have no critical thinking skills.

aintnuthinbutaSHEthang · 18/11/2018 19:04

Transwomen are women is also completely illogical because if they are women, why do they transition and what did they transition from?

Sexnotgender · 18/11/2018 19:14

Quite...

hellandhairnets · 18/11/2018 19:15

I agree, OP, this is my position too.

My view - (which I know doesn't go far enough for some) - is that women are women and transwomen are transwomen (i.e. dysphoric biological males who transition to live as if they were women. Obviously I don't really count AGP cross-dressers even though Stonewall does)

Our needs - biological, medical, social - are completely different and both groups should be able to advocate for themselves and their own specific needs, particularly in terms of support.

TWAW denies all differences, erases women and our rights and does nothing for trans people except deny them reality and true self-acceptance. It locks people into a frenzied and neurotic life of attempting to police the perceptions and beliefs of everybody else and avoids the very real medical needs and lived experiences of those who have transitioned.

It's neither positive nor healthy and is one of the reasons so many transsexuals are getting so pissed off.

Indeed, here are 14 of them:-

Sexnotgender · 18/11/2018 19:32

This again?

I've been here for a while and haven't been party to this before.

How about... if you're not interested then don't read it?
