'Gender-bending fashion'?

I find this fascinating. Obviously, high fashion has form for being very odd indeed, but I haven't seen quite the focus on men wearing the ridiculous, impractical garb before.

I thought the comment that someone wearing the big black sleeping bag walking down the high street would potentially get a less glowing response than on the red carpet where it's all 'daring and innovative' was interesting. Because yes, the guy looks ridiculous, and he's being very theatrical, and the whole point about being theatrical is for people to notice you and to provoke a reaction.

Also, couldn't help wondering what else you could do except walk a red carpet in it. It's not really a 'nip to Morrisons' outfit, although I can see it being useful on the touchline watching your kids play sports...

That image is amazing, upstart - where is it from?

Ereshkigal · 09/11/2018 22:00

"He is remarkable, he's comfortable with all pronouns," says Otamere

No words 😆

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2018 22:00

We should all wear one on the school run next week.

hugoagogo · 09/11/2018 22:03

Seventh seal

FloralBunting · 09/11/2018 22:03

Also, what is 'gender bending' about it. The last person I saw dressed like that was definitely a bloke.

SuburbanRhonda Thats Death, from Ingmar Bergmans classic 1957 film ''The Seventh Seal''.
''A man seeks answers about life, death, and the existence of God as he plays chess against the Grim Reaper during the Black Plague.''

SuburbanRhonda · 09/11/2018 22:12

Thank you - it’s beautiful but really unnerving.

Unlike that catwalk outfit, which is just unnerving.

AuntieStella · 09/11/2018 22:15

This thread is a blast from the past, I haven't heard the term gender bender fashion since the early Bowie days!

If there are commentators out there who really think this is new/original/arising from current trans hen they deserved to be laughed out.

Avegemitesandwich · 09/11/2018 22:21

A bit like The Grim Reaper does Its A Knockout.

Omg YES, you have nailed it! 😂

PineappleSunrise · 09/11/2018 22:21

This is really just Goth for the millennial generation, isn't it? Grin

UpstartCrow · 09/11/2018 22:24

FloralBunting that picture looks uncomfortably like a bobbit worm.

He looks bloody ridiculous.
Feel sorry for whoever sat next to him in the screening.

FloralBunting · 09/11/2018 22:28

Upstart, yes, I was thinking creepy crawly when I looked it up. Tbh, the undoctored snap is just as silly, and inspired many a silly meme at the time, too.

Oo, yes, can you imagine the annoying squeaking every time he shifted in his seat?

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 09/11/2018 22:34

Do you think he wore it inside? He wouldn't get the benefit.

I fucking love The Times. They covered this event by putting Eddie Redmayne on their front page, in a slightly retro suit/coat combo.

Up yours, tedious duvet worm boy.

TheLastMermaid · 09/11/2018 22:35

Nothing to do with fashion. He was going straight on to a long haul flight from the screening and didn't want to put his luggage in the hold. I've heard about these special flight coats before. He probably has room for a microwave meal and 2litres of duty free vodka under there too.

cockBlocker · 09/11/2018 22:40

Hey hey hey! I'm a huge fan of Ezra Miller and I think he's probably more GC than this article lets on, or at least seems reluctant to be used for pushing an ideology. Compare what he says in this Daily Mail piece:

"When asked in the interview about identifying as queer, the star responded: 'Yeah, absolutely.'
He then, somewhat confusedly explained: 'Which is to say, I don't identify. Like, f* that. Queer just means no, I don't do that. I don't identify as a man. I don't identify as a woman. I barely identify as a human.' "

Hairy chest and lip gloss, sorry but I'd have some of that!

'Anthony Worrall Thompson caught shoplifting in Tesco again'.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 09/11/2018 22:41

Imagine the grief the poor sod manning the cloakroom would get trying to hang that fucker up. I bet there were strict instructions not to let it touch anything else lest the “normal” rubs off on it.

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2018 22:42

This is really just Goth for the millennial generation

How many times do we need to point this out?

Millennials are the generational demographic cohort following Generation X. There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends; demographers and researchers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years

The oldest millenials are middle aged and in their late 30s and the chances are they have kids and if they are lucky a mortgage.

This is more typical of Generation Z. Not Gen Y (aka the Millenials). Mainly cos Gen Y are getting on a bit now too.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 09/11/2018 22:53

I bet he's got loads of popcorn and sweets from Poundland hidden under it so he doesn't have to pay extortionate cinema prices. I know your game Ezra Miller!

Voice0fReason · 09/11/2018 22:55

How would they piddle?
Stand over a drain.

Wonder if it comes in other colours.

hipsterfun · 09/11/2018 23:20

"But the reality is that if Ezra Miller was walking down the street like that and he wasn't Ezra, there would be a great deal of abuse and violence that goes hand-in-hand with looking like that.

I think he’s got ROFLing confused with abuse and violence.

And IME, most people who genuinely fear abuse and violence tend to keep a low profile, so this bourgeois bullshit is kind of offensive.

PineappleSunrise · 09/11/2018 23:33

You clearly need to point it out a lot, Red.

AspieAndProud · 09/11/2018 23:38

I don’t know what dispirits me more, the fact that the BBC covered this or that they padded it out with Tweets.

If a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound if nobody is there to post about it on social media?
