Comic relief: the very next story in the scroll-down on this paper's website when I looked at it was headlined, "Modern day witches focus on female empowerment"!

18 months horrible. That poor girl. Not only has she been sexually abused by her own father, he then decided to fuck with her further by becoming a trans woman. There is no way on earth I believe this man should be in a women’s prison.

And can I just draw attention also to the fact that the man has been sentenced to only 18 months for sexually abusing a 3 year old girl.

Even if this was a course of intensive therapy aimed solely at his rehabilitation 18 months would not be enough. His victim will need years of therapy to overcome the damage.

I am sure some judges think that hormonal castration or genital surgery is a good punishment for these men but they have no bloody idea what they are taking about, or if the offender will even have it.

I think having committed a sexual assault especially one involving your penis should be an absolute barrier to transitioning as it shows the person very much identifies with his male body and can use it as a power tool. This is a very male crime. "But I'm really a sweet misunderstood girlie" as an excuse should be given the contempt it deserves. It doesn't reflect well on the trans community either when they don't also say this.

That has just made me feel sick and angry in equal measure.

Yep. I’m sickened by this in so many ways. The age of his poor daughter, the length of the sentence and the fact that he is transitioning. The careful reporting of him as “her” and no doubt the same requirement in court. I sincerely hope his daughter and her mother didn’t have to be in court to witness the disgraceful sentence. So progressive. Much woke. It sickens me.

Also this case makes me feel sick. Not only has this man committed incest, destroyed his daughter's ability to have a healthy male role model in her father, potentially permanently warped and damaged his daughter's ability to have a healthy sexuality, and committed a pedophiliac sexual abuse act, but then he gets called a woman, and stuck in a female prison.
Honestly, I hope the female inmates see to him, and make sure he can't commit such a crime again.

I found the woman’s hour discussion really helpful. I’m now thinking that the issue isn’t self ID of gender but that we haven’t withheld certain issues as sex based. So in Ireland they have self ID, but prisons are segregated by sex.
