More male violence attributed to a woman:

www.thestar.com/news/canada/2018/10/30/transgender-woman-gets-18-month-sentence-for-sexually-assaulting-daughter.html

Comic relief: the very next story in the scroll-down on this paper's website when I looked at it was headlined, "Modern day witches focus on female empowerment"!

Dr James Barrett, president of the British Association of gender identity specialists, in his written evidence to the parliamentary Transgender Equality Inquiry in 2015, says that there are many reasons why prisoners might pretend to be transsexual and that it is naïve to think this doesn't happen.

source re comment above:
2015 Dr. James Barrett, President of the British Association of Gender Identity Specialists evidence to Maria Miller MP & the Women & Equalities Transgender Equality Inquiry:
"...the ever-increasing tide of referrals of patients in prison serving long or indeterminate sentences for serious sexual offences. These vastly outnumber the number of prisoners incarcerated for more ordinary, non-sexual, offences. It has been rather naïvely suggested that nobody would seek to pretend transsexual status in prison if this were not actually the case. There are, to those of us who actually interview the prisoners, in fact very many reasons why people might pretend this. These vary from the opportunity to have trips out of prison through to a desire for a transfer to the female estate (to the same prison as a co-defendant) through to the idea that a parole board will perceive somebody who is female as being less dangerous through to a [false] belief that hormone treatment will actually render one less dangerous through to wanting a special or protected status within the prison system"

Crime & Justice charity:

"Transgender prisoners – those, mostly men, who assert a gender identity at odds with their birth sex – pose a challenge for prison managers. Prisons, after all, are social institutions grounded in the gender binary: that one is either male or female. Transgender prisoners challenge such a binary.

The current Prison Rules state that male and female prisoners should be kept separate from each other. This is not a British idiosyncrasy.

The United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners state that 'Men and women shall so far as possible be detained in separate institutions; in an institution which receives both men and women, the whole of the premises allocated to women shall be entirely separate'.

It does not need spelling out why keeping male and female prisoners in separate accommodation should be one of the minimum expectations for the treatment of prisoners."

James Barrett again...

Successful appeal of pre-operative transgender woman without GRC transfer to Women's Estate, this overturned the Home Office's previous refusal. (2009)

No apparent dicussion or assessment of impact on female prisoners except the following evidence from an expert in gender dysphoria, Dr James Barrett of the Gender Identity Clinic, Charing Cross Hospital, who had also known the Claimant for many years, explained why living in role in female accommodation was required:

"it will become clear that she is so widely accepted as female in that unit that location in the main prison will follow. I think that such acceptance will pretty generally apply in the main prison, also, although there will probably always be a small number of prisoners who will choose to make an issue of the matter because they are the sort of women who enjoy conflict. If this patient is able to cope with protracted close proximity women of that sort I would judge her able to cope with the less prolonged, more avoidable, travails of the civilian world."

Helen Webberley, the gender GP who was convicted of running an illegal clinic, seems to have it in for Barrett.

Gender GP queries

"I raised concerns about James Barrett, consultant psychiatrist at Charing Cross and the GMC did not investigate but instead opened an investigation about me. This was closed with no fault found".

"A ‘senior doctor’ from Charing Cross has made an anonymous statement to the CQC which has now ben passed to the GMC. He outlines various concerns he has, none of which he can substantiate."

This could well be Barrett. The latest complaint against Webberley is currently being investigated by the GMC.

This could well be Barrett. The latest complaint against Webberley is currently being investigated by the GMC.

Dr Helen Webberley is being sentenced tomorrow:

"Healthcare Inspectorate Wales prosecutes online GP
Published 5 Oct 2018
HIW has today successfully prosecuted Online GP Services Ltd and Dr Helen Webberley for illegally providing online healthcare services which require registration under the Care Standards Act 2000

The prosecution follows a period in which Dr Webberley had refused to stop providing services to patients. As a result, HIW proceeded with criminal action against Online GP Services Ltd and Dr Webberley for operating a service without being registered under Section 11 of the Care Standards Act 2000.

Both Online GP Services Ltd and Dr Webberley were found guilty at Merthyr Magistrates court today. Sentencing will take place on 2 November 2018." (continues)

The latest complaint before the GMC is a different complaint, R0wan. The GMC are investigating that.

It is unrelated to the illegal clinic conviction by Health Inspectorate Wales.

R0wantrees · 01/11/2018 20:45

Yes, just thought it worth noting the additional information. Apologies for not being clear.

Popchyk · 01/11/2018 20:55

Oh yeah, it is fine.

I'd forgotten that the sentencing will be tomorrow.

wingwarbler · 02/11/2018 04:40

Shit R0wantrees, that same James Barrett?

So he can on the one hand recognise that some offenders will manipulate the system, and at the same time he can utterly disregard women's needs and fail to protect us?

Perhaps he was naive and got sucked in previously, losing his objectivity.

I can only hope he gave that evidence in 2015 result of what he saw since 2009 when all he seemed to care about was the trans patient and to hell with women. Too much sympathy and enabling for those he perceives as genuine dysphorics/ genuine trans maybe? But then it is his job to assess the patient, and the parole board's to look after the women. Double fail.

It is noteworthy though that he said in the evidence there was a "[false] belief that hormone treatment will actually render one less dangerous".

I would like to hear him expand on that. It certainly fits with women's instincts and knowledge, and what we have uncovered so far.

wingwarbler the transcript of the successful appeal is eye-opening in showing the number of males with both power and influence who clearly lack objectivity.

Vixxxy · 02/11/2018 12:54

this week in Daily Mail: 'Record number of women are being convicted of sex crimes as the total found guilty doubles and the number of teachers grooming pupils shoots up

I wonder how many of them are actually women.

rosablue · 02/11/2018 14:03

Interesting how they just say he had a sex change rather than a sex change operation.

Because his sex change could just be —conveniently reversible— a self ID change rather than surgical and medical which puts the women in the prison he goes to more at risk. Hope they don’t have a mother and child unit in it!

R0wantrees · 02/11/2018 14:07

Humans can't change sex.

Language matters.

2rebecca · 02/11/2018 18:29

I wonder when Webberley's sentence will be reported

R0wantrees · 02/11/2018 19:19

The HIW website now says 'Sentencing will take place on 3 December 2018.'

It seems Drs Helen & Mike Webberley have been away this week at WPATH conference.

Canada: Trans woman sent to women's prison for sexually molesting "her" 3-year-old daughter
kenddoddsdadsdogsdead18 · 02/11/2018 19:35

I worry that at some point, if we continue to validate paedophilic transwomen by sending them to the female estate, mothers will end up losing the chance to have their babies with them. I can see this being used as a way to manage risk.

I know the article is Canada but it isn't as if it isn't happening here already.

So it's a good point in the thread, to request signing of this petition please!! We need a seat at the table and a chance to review prison rules.
