Attitudes to Gender - a survey being used to write a new gender bill in the UK

What is the purpose of the study?
This survey is part of the Future of Legal Gender (FLaG) project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (2018-2021). It explores 1) whether people should have a female/male legal status assigned at birth; and 2) how we could change the way that female/male and other gender categories are used in UK law.
Who is doing this research and why?
Professor Davina Cooper (King’s College London) leads the overall project and Professor Elizabeth Peel (Loughborough University) is leading this part of the research.
We want to make sure that the research is informed by the experiences and views of a wide range of people. Thank you for sharing your opinions and contributing to the project. You can read more about why we are doing the project, and the research team here.

I have completed the survey. It is utter utter bullocks and I am shocked that these people a) call themselves lawyers and b) managed to get three quarters of a million to conduct this joke piece of research.
I hope to fuck that at least one of them wakes the hell up and realises what they are actually doing here. They essentially are seeking to replace sex with gender identity. Horrific.
And this is not just a PhD project- the PhD is a small part of it. This survey was apparently written by a professor. I’m not sure what to say really.
Plus the advisory board includes Alex ‘there are limits to sexual autonomy’ Sharpe. This project, which is led by women, actually will do untold damage to female rights. I don’t think people like Professor Cooper give a tiny rat’s arse about the rights of ordinary women though. Her writing strongly suggests ivory tower syndrome.

Even though it’s infuriating, I would urge you all to complete it so that they are given the strong message that this is a load of balls and very very harmful.

On the plus side, I can’t see even the maddest government ever adopting anything any of these woke people have to say, but it’s an annoying waste of tax-payer money all the same.

I'm so relieved other people also found it badly written, I was starting to wonder if it was as bad as I had remembered. I'm shocked to the core that this is the standard of academic research on so critical an issue.

"Does your current sex/gender match the sex you were given at birth? "

Yes
No

I wasn't flipping "given" a sex.

This survey is not done in good faith.

MrGHardy · 09/11/2018 20:25

"do you identify as part of a minority ethnic/ racial community "

How can you take any research on this matter seriously, if people already have these kinds of assumption, and use this kind of language.

Peakpants · 09/11/2018 20:36

On the project’s website it says ‘everyone is assigned a legal gender at birth’. How could they have got funding when they get something like that so extremely and fundamentally wrong. No- sex is observed and recorded and good job too or we wouldn’t have a record of discrimination.
These people are either very stupid/deluded or very sinister.

Peakpants · 09/11/2018 20:38

Yes, I ID as black and I also ID as quadriplegic. In reality, my skin burns to a crisp in the sun and I have just been for a jog, but who gives a shit about that because what’s in my head is what roolz.

MrGHardy · 09/11/2018 20:42

"The law and government are key forces when it comes to creating, maintaining and enforcing a system of binary gender (i.e. female/male)."

they actually think female/male is a gender thing, not sex.

Jux · 28/11/2018 00:54

Most of the comments boxes were filled with " please define your terms and stop conflating the two; I cannot answer this question in its current form" or words to that effect.

This might have passed muster as first draft in first year, or maybe a cautionary example before students tried drafting a questionnaire for the first time.

It is truly appalling.

And for that someone got paid??!!!!! Which instituion? I hope I don't know anyone who went there.
