Posie Parker statement: Not Overheard At Waitrose

SwearyG · 19/10/2018 21:27

At 2.30 this afternoon the incredible Hannah Clarke and Julia Long headed over to Waitrose, Cromwell Road, London to photograph my billboards. A lovely twin set either side of Waitrose, a perfect placement if ever there was one! But no photographs emerged. I called Media Agency Group to find out where my billboards were. One of their staff told me the billboards had gone up and then been taken down by the landlord so they could look into the campaign. A treacherous campaign it is too, the definition of woman is practically an invitation to warfare. I'm sure the landlord scrutinises all adverts, just like Primesight and Exterion.

So I called the building management. They told me to call Waitrose as this was nothing to do with them, they insisted it was not their decision. I've called Waitrose press office and they told me it wasn't them, and Hannah and Julia asked the branch and they said it wasn't them!! My conclusion is that it's most likely to be Waitrose as the building management company implied it was.

At no point has anyone from Waitrose or MAG called me to tell me the billboards have been removed, and as they're digital someone must have had at least a conversation before interfering with the software.

I remain determined to continue to place in the public sphere that woman is an adult human female, until every woman understands what is at stake.

This could be fun

I can provide good advice re vegetable growing.

LangCleg · 19/10/2018 22:38

Oh Gawd, time to move to a smallholding and grow own veg.

I have an allotment and can recommend!

Budgieinaberet · 19/10/2018 22:39

I'm sure Posie was reimbursed for the first one
Posie is a fucking genius 🍷

Popchyk · 19/10/2018 22:42

I am totally up for living off the fatta the land.

Might have to the way things are going.

ImPreCis · 19/10/2018 22:51

I am going to email Waitrose right now. This is the new me, activist, not giving any fucks. I am going to order some of Posies postcards and if we find out that Waitrose has betrayed us I shall put them amongst the Petit Pois, the exquisite Chanterelles, The VERY naice air dried Serrano ham, even the cut glass penis beakers will not be immune to my
Postcarding!

SamPotatoes · 19/10/2018 22:52

FFS Waitrose, don't make me add you to the boycott list. I am an adult human female who is cash rich and time poor so I am a big fan. But I also only shop with places that "align to my values" and if you fuck up I won't be back.

BigotedWoman · 19/10/2018 22:54

Julia and I were also asked to leave Waitrose for leaving leaflets by the wine.

Ooh you rebels! Grin

(But seriously, thanks for everything you do Sweary.)

I can't sew to save my life but I'd take it up if Leeds Spinners did an online, "How to create your own banner" class. That would teach me many useful incidental skills that I might need in the gulag. :)

'Cash rich and time poor '

And there's a quote to give to your boss..

Budgieinaberet · 19/10/2018 23:43

Arrange
I am time rich
And I have skills
I'm going to make a fabulous Suffragette scarf
And I want to make a big banner

Wrong side of history
My arse
Leeds Spinners 🍷

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 19/10/2018 23:52

Oh ffs. I just did a Christmas order. Will be cancelling if it was Waitrose and get everything from farm shops. It will make my life more difficult but if the major retailers are reading, I am an adult human female who doesn't like being erased and is the main spender for this household. If I have to go completely local for groceries and other things I will. This is too important for my daughters. Biology matters (you'd think a bloody grocery store would know this - where do they think eggs come from? Cockerels who have certain feelings? And milk from bulls who are into pink?)

PenguindreamsofDraco · 20/10/2018 06:48

Oh FFS Waitrose, don't bugger this up. I'm another who cancelled Ocado and switched.
They're all going to go for plausible deniability though aren't they.
How the FUCK are we in this situation?

On a positive note I got two (male) Judges to complete the consultation using the FPFW email yesterday, which I am counting as a definite win.

Herja · 20/10/2018 08:12

Right. Emailing. I will start with waitrose, because they are obvious. @SwearyG if you feel it would be a good idea and would like to pass on their details by pm, I would be delighted to join you in contacting the landlord to ask them wtf is going on.

pennydrew · 20/10/2018 08:18

Ha, this will be interesting to see how Waitrose respond. Just shifted to them from Ocado! But I am happy to shift again.

Remember that we hold an enormous amount of power as big consumers... and we are all intelligent enough to use that to our advantage. We need to get creative with our shopping... and smart at how we use our spending power. If the women of Mumsnet stopped spending money for just one day, these fuckers will notice. As someone who has recently adopted a more frugal living approach, I haven’t bought any clothes all year, I reckon we are missing a trick by not protesting with our wallets. In a much much bigger way than we currently are.

PyeWackets · 20/10/2018 08:21

Right, what are the salient points that need to be included in the email?

Poster removed, dictionary definition, were you responsible?

IFeelSorryForMillie · 20/10/2018 08:23

well if it wasn't Waitrose, and it wasn't the landlord, then there is no problem with going up now, is there?

PyeWackets · 20/10/2018 08:24

..and it was Waitrose, Cromwell road, London?

finnmcool · 20/10/2018 08:32

Slightly off topic.
I know someone who works in John Lewis and they have to share the women's locker room with 2 men who dress up as women (her words) one of them sometimes comes in as a 'typical' looking man.

TeenTimesTwo · 20/10/2018 08:46

I think it is reasonable for them to have blocked it if they view it as getting involved in politics if they don't usually do that.
What would be unreasonable would be if they put out any kind of statement saying it was offensive or transphobic.

IFeelSorryForMillie · 20/10/2018 08:51

I think it is reasonable for them to have blocked it if they view it as getting involved in politics if they don't usually do that

But according to all involved, no body blocked it, So you just have to go back and say, right everyone is okay with it, so let's get this up now Smile

JustPoppingIn · 20/10/2018 08:54

I love Waitrose. I pop into Waitrose all the time and I am also very keen about their free coffee. I love the friendly staff and I think on the whole the produce is great. We are a two income household and I do the majority of the shopping, being an adult human female.

But, I will stop using them over this issue in a heartbeat. I will have a little cry, but I will do it.

paffuto · 20/10/2018 08:57

finnmcool how come that's being permitted now, even before proposed changes to GRA?

pennydrew · 20/10/2018 09:02

For anyone interested, we found box veg & fruit delivery overall cheaper than Waitrose or Ocado. Mixed with a bit of cheap stuff at the markets, and frozen veg & berries
Currently use Riverford, which I think is better quality than Abel & Cole.

Juells · 20/10/2018 09:05

Julia and I were also asked to leave Waitrose for leaving leaflets by the wine.

I think that's fair enough, they'd stop anyone leaving leaflets in the store. Same with the Gentleman's sandwich thing, it wouldn't bother me, any more than Gentleman's Relish or man-sized tissues would. The billboard erasure would give me the rage though, I think we need an answer as to who made the decision to pull the message.

QuietContraryMary · 20/10/2018 09:06

"I think it is reasonable for them to have blocked it if they view it as getting involved in politics if they don't usually do that."

? It's an advertising billboard. No endorsement is implied. It's normal to have political stuff on.
