Waitrose???

Femaledisrespectful · 19/10/2018 10:47

Anybody else get a certain email this morning about digital billboards going up today? Looks like it's Waitrose. They're not daft are they?! Ocado's loss is their gain and I'm sure this will help encourage it further. If I was richer I'd shop there.

93% want the poster to stay

That gulag is going to be very crowded indeed!

Avegemitesandwich · 19/10/2018 22:25

Wow, that poll!

I like how the poll gave the options "Yes, absolutely" or just plain "No" and yet 92% of responders still decided to choose no.

EverardDigby · 20/10/2018 06:55

90% no now.

TheCraicDealer · 20/10/2018 07:17

"This handful of small minded people are spending huge amounts of money that would be better spent supporting the resources that they’re claiming to be campaigning for."

"Handful" representing 90% of the people who responded 'no' on that poll, Rob. And while you're at it, maybe you could ask the trans lobby to spend some cash on third spaces, rather than encroaching on womens, eh? That's a dear.

Potato2242 · 20/10/2018 07:28

I work for Waitrose, it isn't as expensive as you all think!!!

Im confused though with what Waitrose has to do with this? Are billboards going up and Waitrose are hosting them?

Quickerthanavicar · 20/10/2018 08:00

So looking forward to a quieter Waitrose and more slots to pick with Ocado.

legofriendly · 20/10/2018 08:00

Potato2242 I can’t find out either. I was in Waitrose Gloucester road yesterday, well the arcade that it’s in, which was actually mentioned here, and there was nothing. It’s all a bit confusing. I think you have to be “in” on it to get it!

legofriendly · 20/10/2018 08:05

placemats

Why are you asking these questions Lego?

Oh, didn’t realise I shouldn’t have been. OK I’ll step out of the thread. It is obviously something you have to be “in” on, not for everyone!

Oh well.

LightastheBreeze · 20/10/2018 08:12

Lego

I shop at Waitrose and come to the thread because of this and have no clue either, maybe Waitrose should not have been so prominent in the title if they didn't want us interlopers on the thread. Obviously it is not our place to be here.

Gncq · 20/10/2018 08:29

Lego, Light
There is a reason why posters here are cautious about posters asking what appear to be basic questions. Sincere apologies if you are genuine but there is a technique known as 'sealioning' which is used by anti-feminists where they come onto a thread and attempt to stop us talking about the subject we want to talk about by asking disingenuous faux-naive questions which get answered clearly but followed up with even more irrelevant questions, and this ends up derailing the thread and frustrating posters and makes the thread impossible to follow for lurkers.
Feminist posters are, as a result, because this happens fairly frequently, quite cautious about falling into this trap.

So sorry, if you are genuine I'll try to answer that TRA stands for Trans Rights Activists (these people are anti-feminist also known as AWA Anti-Women-Activist)
They are the "They" in question, who complained when Posie Parker crowd funded for a poster saying "Woman, noun, Adult human female" and successfully lobbied to have it taken down.
They have now lobbied to prevent the same poster appearing over Waitrose in London.

Posie Parker is a free speech advocate and kick-ass radical feminist.

Quickerthanavicar · 20/10/2018 09:45

Surely if you want to gain support for a 'cause' you need to be clear what you want/need.
The misleading title and then the code/jargon, used throughout this thread are not helping those who are trying to understand and may support your aims.
The then accusing people of 'sealioning', I had to google that, who seek to find out what you are talking about adds to the confusion.

FekkoTheLawyer · 20/10/2018 10:06

The boards don't belong to waitrose though. They are at the back entrance of a small shopping centre with a Boots, garfunkles, ice cream shop, flower stall and the entrance to the tube station is at the front. I don't think I've ever seen a waitrose ad on the boards (I drive past regularly).

Wouldn't it have been the landlords call?

(Public announcement) THERE'S A HUGE SAINSBURYS JUST OVER THE ROAD WITH AN ARGOS AND DENTIST INSIDE AND A DECENT BOOZE DEPARTMENT.

Femaledisrespectful · 20/10/2018 10:17

@FekkoTheLawyer That's why I'm on the fence at the moment, until there's clarity.

@Quickerthanavicar Apologies, I put it on the FWR boards as I knew it would be more likely that people would understand. The story is long and complex, so difficult to explain in one go. I just wanted to give the heads up as I was ridiculously excited!

legofriendly - you keep asking questions and making remarks like It’s all a bit confusing. I think you have to be “in” on it to get it!

Any of us in this thread have access to no more information than you have, but don't find it a bit confusing. Your 'confusion' seems a bit disingenuous. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, it may be that you've just suddenly arrived here, haven't been following the saga of the removed billboards, and can't be arsed to google it or look at older threads.

Doesn't sound like you support our aims, though.

StealthNinjaMum · 20/10/2018 10:44

Oh bollocks. I voted the wrong way. Brain just thought 'yes I want it to stay' without reading the question.

Juells · 20/10/2018 10:47

😅

FekkoTheLawyer · 20/10/2018 11:31

Look I'm just nearby (if I can get through the march). Gimme a bloody sharpie and ten mins...

FekkoTheLawyer · 20/10/2018 11:32

Where's the vote? (Lazy). Also the short version of the GA form? I have a few peoe to email today.
