As a conservative voter I am please that David Davies is vocal in his opposition to "self identification" however I do wonder if all those people who now hang on to his every word with regard to this issue are Conservative voters or just using him because he just happens to speak and write common sense. How many will run away at the next election to vote for Labour?

With reference to the claim about tribalism, what do you think to this report: www.catholicherald.co.uk/news/2018/10/17/radical-feminists-attack-church-and-town-hall-in-argentina/?platform=hootsuite

Who said anything about liking anyone @Helmetbymidnight? It is an observation that people who would ordinarily vote left wing are flocking around a right winger just because he speaks and writes about a specific topic. Somewhat cynical don't you think?

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 17/10/2018 21:39

I don’t think it’s cynical at all, no.

There are and have always been issues that transcend party lines.

Please don’t @ me.

PositivelyPERF · 17/10/2018 21:40

Oh stop it OP! You know you’re just trying to start a debate on how wrong GC feminists are. Just spit it out.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 17/10/2018 21:41

Speaking for myself, I'm fully aware of the distinction between Davids Davis and Davies, I'm a left-winger and disagree vehemently with Davies on I think literally everything except self ID and freedom of speech, I nevertheless respect his attitude to his job.

GivenuponHumanity · 17/10/2018 21:49

@PositivelyPerf maybe it is time to call you out? You wanted totally equality, now you have it - men can become women and women can become men. What can possibly go wrong? Well done

OP posts:
Gwenhwyfar · 17/10/2018 21:55

"Can I just remind people that David Davies mp and David Davis mp are two separate people.
They’re both conservatives but only one is a complete twat. "

Both are twats imo.

LorettasBox · 17/10/2018 21:59

Oh, riiight. You're doing a "Well, Feminists, you wanted 'equality', this is what you wanted" piece of nonsense, are you? How tiresome.

Trinity1976 · 17/10/2018 22:01

Oh groan! Another 'well you wanted equality, now you've got it' comment. All that David Davies stuff was just building up to that!

PositivelyPERF · 17/10/2018 22:01

You wanted totally equality, now you have it What a crock of shit! You’re ignorance is showing. Feminists want freedom from patriarchy and equality of treatment. If you don’t know the difference, it just shows what a thick NRA you are.

PositivelyPERF · 17/10/2018 22:02

*MRA

ShineyNewName5032 · 17/10/2018 22:02

Seems the OP might have a point, Conservative politicians are "twats" but they are useful in this toxic debate.

BettyDuMonde · 17/10/2018 22:04

I don’t live in his constituency. This is an irrelevant question for the overwhelming majority of Mumsnetters, most of us will have one of the other 649 MPs.

The most recent conservative candidate here had ‘CONSERATIVES’ on his campaign literature. Unsurprisingly the electorate wasn’t impressed.

MindTheMinotaur · 17/10/2018 22:04

My MP is Luke Pollard, he's not interested in women....

LangCleg · 17/10/2018 22:06

0/10

It usually takes at least three pages, OP.

VMisaMarshmallow · 17/10/2018 22:10

Gosh yes what naughty women we are using the poor man while planning to run away and vote for the other team while the poor helpless Tory got played by us manipulative harpies.

God forbid women can have complex opinions and agree with individual opinions from different mps from different parties on different issues. And poor poor mp being manipulated into doing his job of representing the people he is paid to resppresent. What a poor man played by us women.

The Tory’s were responsible for the UN finding us guilty for violating the convention on the rights of people with disabilities, the first time any country has ever been found guilty of these violations. The Tory’s have implemented policies that have culled people with disabilities and when the UN spoke up the Tory’s did sweet fa. Just because some Tory mps are finally getting off their fecking arses and speaking out about the damage the bill their fellow Tory mps are championing doesn’t mean they are any less guilty of other harm or deserving of my vote.

This feels like a thread to distract from the real issues, it feels like trolling.

LorettasBox · 17/10/2018 22:15

I am seeing this in so many of the more conservative places I go online. I use conservative in the broad sense rather than specifically Tories.

They are appalled with the whole trans ideology, but they lay the blame squarely at the feet of Feminists for all sorts of things Feminists don't actually believe - like there are no differences between men and women and so on.

Try and explain that Feminists understand there are differences, we just don't think women should be systematically disadvantaged because of those differences, and you just get confused looks because they've swallowed the modern choosey choice version of 'Feminism' and so you get silly articles like the above where 'radical feminists' are apparently campaigning for gender ideology.

What a mess.

walkingtheplank · 17/10/2018 22:15

David Davies has been GC for some time so I don't think he is allowing himself to be used by left-wing feminists or riding any kind of wave.

I spoke with my male Conservative MP. He had a constituency meeting to attend yesterday morning but he agreed that it is not transphobic to question the proposed amendments to the GRA. He kept stressing that keeping men out of sex-specific spaces was just common sense and that we mustn't stop talking about it out of fear being called transphobic. He said he wouldn't vote for anything that took away women's rights/put them at risk. He referenced Karen White.

UpstartCrow · 17/10/2018 22:20

Only idiots confuse ''being treated with equal respect'' with ''being identical in every respect.''

RollerJed · 17/10/2018 22:20

Oh ffs OP. Fuck right off.

Two very separate issues. Well done on voicing your opinion Hmm

IKeepFlouncing · 17/10/2018 22:24

FloPen · 17/10/2018 22:26

I heard yesterday that Karen Smyth mp (labour) , an MP local to me, has voiced concerns about this. If she had, she's said them bloody quietly as i've never heard them.
The tide is turning and jess phillips et al will be 'voicing their concerns' now. Now it's safe.

IKeepFlouncing · 17/10/2018 22:46

Flopen

It’s ridiculous, I wonder what these MP are going to put on their next campaign leaflet.

To be honest they have all shown their true colours. Cowards who willing to sell out women.

When this shit over, I’m counting on a new women’s political party, the men who been suspended or sacked for speaking up can apply for vacancies.

FloPen · 17/10/2018 22:51

how about starting a women's equality party? Wink

3secondsfromchaos · 17/10/2018 22:51

I could never put my trust in anyone who gets his jollies from chasing and torturing innocent wild animals. The man is a total psychopath.
