As a conservative voter I am please that David Davies is vocal in his opposition to "self identification" however I do wonder if all those people who now hang on to his every word with regard to this issue are Conservative voters or just using him because he just happens to speak and write common sense. How many will run away at the next election to vote for Labour?

So who is using who.

David Davies is GC so using RadFems
RadFems are GC so using David Davies

Or perhaps this is an issue that both feel strongly about and so are happy to work together and support each other. No real surprise here. Women make up 51% of the population, and come is all political hues.

What an odd thread.

To be clear OP 82% of the population support the Gender Critical (GC) position and 98% of The Times readers in a current poll. So this is not an issue “owned” by radfems or religious conservatives. Most people with a modicum of common sense, understanding of science and who acknowledge the male propensity to violence and harassment of the opposite sex understand why we have sex segregation for certain activities and wish to keep it that way.

I consider myself left-wing but I bought a subscription to The Times because they also support the same POV and were the ONLY media outlet wiling to say so and write sensibly on this issue. Does that mean they’re “using me”?. Politics is not usually tidy and black and white with issues sitting in tidy piles labeled with a political party. Issues can be spread across the political spectrum. An issue as very controversial as self-ID has engaged many women politically who did not even consider themselves feminist, let alone radical feminists but we can clearly see when our hard won rights and protections are in danger.

Very confused by the Argentinian fire bombers. What tribe are they?
Surely not affiliated to any Monmouth-based gender critical arsonists.

I'm pretty certain, OP, that David Davies is very well aware that many of his most vocal supporters on this issue would disagree with him about nearly everything else. I said as much to the woman in his constituency office when I phoned this morning to ask them to pass on a message of thanks for speaking out.

Some things transcend party politics. David Davies is well aware of this so I don't think you need to worry about him.

I wrote to Bob Neil who is my conservative M.P. Some time ago and he has not bothered to reply yet. So basically ignored me. I have no way of knowing if he is for or against women’s rights. If he keeps this stance up he will not get my vote. M.P’s need to stand up and be counted. Why should we tolerate this silence? This isn’t acceptable. You take on a job of public office and it has risks when you speak out. We know this is a given. This legislation goes through, and we know there will be victims. I take my hat off to David Davis, well done to him for his hard work in giving a voice to this issue. Shame on others who won’t stand up. We need to take a hard line on this nothing else will work. #comeoutforfemaleequality.

I don't find it surprising that this most fundamental issue of biological sex and material reality transcends other political views.

Our loyalty should be to truth and reason, and anyway what it left and right these days is a nonsense. So many of these woke types are not left wing at all having rejected class analysis and favouring extreme individualism. They have left the usual political spectrum altogether and just inhabit insane unreason.

But seeing as I have confused David Davies MP with David Davis MP, I obviously need to catch up on who is who these days. I am fairly alarmed by David Davis, even if he was speaking out in favour of women's rights.
