Nicholas Hellen, Social Affairs Editor of the Sunday Times tweeted?

Shocking moment this morning when journalists invited by @DavidTCDavies to hear MPs and feminists discuss #GRA issues @HouseofCommons were told MPs asked not to be named - for their own safety. @WomansPlaceUK @Transgendertrd* @jameskirkup @Mermaids_Gender*

WTF? It's their job to cover the news! Covering a story doesn't mean they endorse it.

This is nuts.

I am sure I am not alone in emailing my MP to ask him to attend this meeting, I wonder what if anything he will say if he replies.

Fuzzywig · 16/10/2018 20:07

I emailed the 3 mp’s in my area yesterday. I am still awaiting a response.

Budgieinaberet · 16/10/2018 20:28

Corbyn invited members of the IRA to the HOC straight after the Brighton bombing.
No one rang the police on him.

But Women talking about their safety
Criminal
How dare we
And how many of these bastard's made a big fuss of the Suffragettes

FlowersAndHerts · 16/10/2018 20:28

I got a holding email, and he'll get back to me with a more detailed response "shortly". In the meantime, he used the opportunity to add me to his mailing list to update on this "and any other relevant local issues"!

doctorbarbie · 16/10/2018 20:33

I've had enough of all this for today. This latest revelation was the last straw. I can usually take a step back but this is so cowardly and seems so unprecedented. I don't understand it and to be quite frank , right now, I don't think I want to.

AncientLights · 16/10/2018 20:34

All of this means there is something very much bigger going on here.

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/10/2018 21:09

The question of why MPs are frightened of TRAs is one that has to be asked. The potential answers are all disturbing.

And yes. If MPs are scared, they need to be protecting women.

Speechless.

FermatsTheorem · 16/10/2018 21:25

MPs weren’t scared into silence by the IRA, but don’t want Goldsmiths bluehairs knowing their names? WTF is actually going on?

That is the million dollar question. The IRA assassinated one MP (Airey Neave). They blew up the hotel the Tory party conference was being held in, killing Norman Tebbit's wife. They assassinated Lord Mountbatten.

Yet MPs are so frightened of the transgender lobby they don't want to be identified going into a meeting in the Houses of Parliament?

Now normally (see many of my previous posts) I favour cock-up over conspiracy, random chance, the perfect storm, people stumbling into irrationality and authoritarianism as my go-to explanations. But at this point even I am reaching for the tin foil hat.

This is just plain weird. Who the fuck is pulling the strings here?

rightreckoner · 16/10/2018 21:30

Totally agree Fermat although it wasn’t Norman Tebbits wife they killed. She was very seriously injured. Five others were killed.

scotsheather · 16/10/2018 21:32

Davies is a sort of looney right on most issues so its sad he appears the only one showing any teeth over this, but there are many reasons people wouldn't want aligned with him. I really hope some more moderates stick their necks out and show there is a broader consensus on this. Its our votes they are after ultimately.

I think for most MPs its more that they've been completely briefed and lobbied.

The message has been that opposing TRA demands is akin to Thatcher's Section 28.

FlowersAndHerts · 16/10/2018 21:39

Surely the current poll in The Times "Should everyone who identifies as female have access to women-only spaces?" - at 7512 votes, 98% voting no - must convince them that it's nothing like Section 28?

IStandWithPosie · 16/10/2018 21:42

Didn’t they state specifically what they were afraid of happening should they be identified?

HomeStar · 16/10/2018 21:57

You know what’s amazing is that Boris Johnson hasn’t latched on to this. He seems to be borrowing from the Trump playbook in a big way, and this is an issue where many, many people might enjoy a stupid haired id on legs blurting out political incorrectness.

He’s calculating as fuck and doesn’t seem to give a shit about anything at all other than positioning himself to be PM. He must have seen the potential electoral advantage with this issue... what’s weighing in the balance against that?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/10/2018 22:04

He probably hasn't spent enough time listening to women to even be aware of it.

IdaBWells · 16/10/2018 22:11

So EVERYONE is scared of the “transgender activists”= violent men

AngryAttackKittens · 16/10/2018 22:27

Boris's sister is definitely not on board with this nonsense, maybe he'd listen to her?

AngryAttackKittens · 16/10/2018 22:28

Bambi is now so terrifying that even the most bolshy MPs don't dare to contradict them, apparently.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 16/10/2018 22:58

'stupid haired id on legs' - hahahaha!

tobee · 16/10/2018 23:42

If there is something bigger behind this, it's usual that we'll have to wait for the 20 year rule to be up. I don't want to wait that long. Think of all the damage that could be done.

FermatsTheorem · 16/10/2018 23:49

30 years, tobee. And some things are considered such political hot potatoes they're locked up for longer than that!

PaleBlueMoonlight · 17/10/2018 08:18

Can anyone screen shot it in its original form? I am annoyed that I had closed the tab.

GoldenBuns · 17/10/2018 10:19

They're scared of looking bad - of being on the 'wrong side of history'. I think it's more about personal vanity for a lot of them.
