Anyone else see this? Text probably too small to read in pic:

Dear transphobes,
Do you think it's right to harass people in the street? Right to push transgender people around in clubs? Right to humiliate, intimidate and threaten them online?
Well we don't. That's why if we see you doing harm , we're reporting you. We believe that people should be allowed to be themselves. Except if they're spreading hate.
Yours, Scotland
.

While I agree with the sentiment here this has really pissed me off. Women are subject to ALL of the above on a regular basis. Have done forever. Don't see any govt campaign directed at men for harassing women or maybe I just havent noticed itHmm.

I await the same advert with content relating to all the other aspects of hate crime. I imagine I'll be waiting a while...

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/10/2018 16:16

Agreed.all those things are surely a crime regardkess of who they are to.

And this is our daily life...I had some dry k swearing at me the other day for refusing to serve them.

Where's the concern for my safety.

Victims my arse they have their finger
In every fucking pie.

DayMay · 05/10/2018 16:19

After watching politics live today, the threats to the signatory of yesterday's Times letter and reading this, I now believe we have entered a totalitarian state.

Datun · 05/10/2018 16:19

It just comes across as a monumentally self obsessed.

They can't say what they're actually pissed off about, so they use completely normal, everyday things that everyone would agree with!

It's like saying dear haterz, we disagree with murder and if we see it happening we're going to report you.

Just sounds meaningless but with a huge red flag pointing to a hidden agenda.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/10/2018 16:19

yes, why transphobia specifically?

I mean we know why, because people are showing dangerous tendencies towards thinking for themselves and need to be convinced that this makes them the same as someone who'd push a person around in a nightclub for being gender non conforming

but still

odd

wonder who paid for it? it will have costs several thousand I'd have thought.

Keeptrudging · 05/10/2018 16:21

Yes, I'm waiting for the one about harassment of women too. This campaign, while I'm sure it's well intentioned, is really narking me as I really don't understand why sexual harrasment/misogyny is missing from this? It's almost like women are bottom of the heap.

What are they counting as hate speech anyway? If it's going by what is labelled transphobic online, it's going to be an incredibly long, ever-changing list as more and more words are banned.

SturdyEarmuffs · 05/10/2018 16:22

That's actually quite helpful in an unintended way. I am a woman who does none of those things so I'm happy to confirm to anyone who would think to accuse me of being transphobic that, according to the Scottish Government and Police Scotland, I am most certainly not transphobic or a transphobe.

👍

failingatlife · 05/10/2018 16:22

I assume the taxpayer is paying for it Bernard

The only place they have left is to lie about being disprortionately victimised or to change the definition of what victimisation is in order for it to seem so. And repeatedly quote fake suicide statistics

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 05/10/2018 16:24

Yes. I am definitely not transphobic then

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/10/2018 16:25

I assume the taxpayer is paying for it

for serious?

why?? what a fucking waste of cash. it doesn't say anything

I guess I could submit FOI requests to each of those organisations for any information they hold about this advert

PinkCalluna · 05/10/2018 16:25

To be fair I believe there are Dear Racists and Dear Disablist posters too.

Sailorjerrycherry · 05/10/2018 16:26

Assanited - I’m actually 95% sure I saw one the other day aimed at homophobes on the subway in Glasgow. It wasn’t transphobes anyways - I think there’s a series of them.

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 05/10/2018 16:27

Pink

That's good

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 05/10/2018 16:28

I there a Dear Sexual Predator one?

failingatlife · 05/10/2018 16:29

I see what you mean Sturdy. I am not a transphobe either as I wouldn't do any of those things to anyone Nice to know I can refer any accusers to this handy guide Grin

Does rather draw attention to the importance of who gets to decide what 'hate' is doesn't it?

64BooLane · 05/10/2018 16:32

It’s part of a series.

I think the whole series is pretty tone deaf tbh. It’s an easy virtue signal on a range of topics but I suspect the smug, faux-polite tone won’t change any minds. There is a Dear Racists one near my house and I somehow feel like it’s almost going to be read as daring people to do or say racist things in its vicinity. I feel slightly braced for there to be graffiti on it one day, you know? And that is mainly because of the tone.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/10/2018 16:32

it reads so strangely

'we're reporting you'

and yet signed by the Police

who are they reporting transphobes to? The WI?

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 05/10/2018 16:33

If there's not one defending women's rights to go about their business un-harrassed and un-assaulted then I think they've not really taken on board crime statistics.

museumum · 05/10/2018 16:34

They exist for every protected characteristic.

I agree with them. I may be labelled terf by some bit I’m pleased to say that I’m not transphobic at all by that description.

museumum · 05/10/2018 16:35

All

museumum · 05/10/2018 16:36

Agree that dear mysoginists would have been a good addition.

Bowlofbabelfish · 05/10/2018 16:36

They exist for every protected characteristic.

Good. So there’s one for sex then?

AssassinatedBeauty · 05/10/2018 16:37

Ah I stand corrected. A positive at least that it isn't just one aspect that is being focussed on.
