Being pro-choice does not excuse male violence

A canadian hairdresser has been fired after roundhouse kicking a female anti-abortion protester. He's now claiming to be like MLK and Gandhi.

No, mr hairdresser, I do not want you "on my side". I do not want nor need violent males like you on this planet, whether or not you claim to be on "my side". When a woman is raped and needs an abortion, it's because of a male who thought it was ok to be violent to women, a violent man just like you. Three women per week are killed in the UK by violent men, men who think it's ok to hit women like you do.

You are the cause of women's oppression. You are contributing to patriarchy by committing violence against women you don't like. Your actions have a chilling effect on all women, because all of us fear that disagreement with men like you will end in your violence against us.

I am glad that you have been fired. I hope that your fellow protesters recognise the risk that you pose to all women and shun you. I hope that the police take this incident seriously and that you are prosecuted and the book thrown at you.

You do not speak nor act for me.

Violence, male or not, is never an appropriate response to the voicing of a political opinion.

thenightsky · 05/10/2018 11:13

Wow. He did that without even looking angry or building up to it. He is a walking time bomb who needs locking away.

ToeToToe · 05/10/2018 11:14

Absolutely agree, OP.

I'm getting a bit sick of male violence all over the women's movement. No place for it at all. Ever.

RealGhouls · 05/10/2018 11:15

The MLK/Gandhi quote is fake I think.

But he has done this before.

Unfortunately the 'punch a Nazi' staff does tend to contribute to this.

YeTalkShiteHen · 05/10/2018 11:16

He’s disgusting. Violence is never, ever the way to make a point. He’s just another man attacking women.

I vehemently disagree with the woman he attacked, however I absolutely defend her right not to be attacked.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 05/10/2018 11:18

Just another woke bro out for cookies, except this time the mask slipped. Violent misogynist who has no place in feminism.

heresyandwitchcraft · 05/10/2018 11:26

Honestly, guys like him are part of the reason I really don't trust most "male feminists." What a truly disgusting thing to do. Fuck that guy. I hope he goes to jail.
That poor woman...
NOBODY should be met with violence for voicing a political opinion - that's the road to actual fascism.

DuckingGoodPJs · 05/10/2018 11:31

As much as I disagree with the anti-choicer protestors on this - I absolutely condemn the actions of this dude.

As per thenightsky, I am shocked that his attack came out of nowhere and without any kind of prior indication. That is one dangerous dude, to attack a woman without any kind of provocation or warning.

He's NOT on our side, for sure. He is using this issue as an excuse to attack women. Not on dude, not on.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/10/2018 11:32

He's just a violent misogynist who has found what he thinks is an acceptable way to harm women.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 11:36

I agree. This is the type who would do it to "T*RFs" too. Whatever you think of someone's politics/morals there is no justification for a violent assault, particularly by someone physically stronger.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 11:37

Unfortunately the 'punch a Nazi' staff does tend to contribute to this.

Yes, it does.

ToeToToe · 05/10/2018 11:40

Honestly, guys like him are part of the reason I really don't trust most "male feminists."

Yes, I know exactly what you mean.

So, when WPUK meeting was cancelled, a well-known male activist called Hope, or ManInPink - announced he was going to the home address of one of the (female) councillors involved in the cancellation.

Every single radical feminist on that twitter thread was "NO! Not in our name, DO NOT harass women in their homes, we are not about harassing women, even ones we disagree with."

It's such a very male thing to do, to threaten women this way. (I don't think he did go in the end) - but the threats against women - whatever side of the argument they're on - the threats are all coming from MALES.

PerkingFaintly · 05/10/2018 11:42

This is reminding me a lot of violent animal rights activists.

I've long suspected violent people go round looking for "causes" with "battles" to be violent in. The details of the "cause" are less important than the opportunities it offers.

PerkingFaintly · 05/10/2018 11:43

And I agree, so often for "people" you can read "men".

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/10/2018 11:43

This is the type who would do it to "TRFs" too.*

Absolutely. He reminded me very much of the kind of woke bro you see in TRA circles.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/10/2018 11:48

I've long suspected violent people go round looking for "causes" with "battles" to be violent in. The details of the "cause" are less important than the opportunities it offers.

Your suspicions are correct. Even back in the '80s it was known that certain groups of young men would turn up at demos because they were looking for a fight. I thought of them as the middle class equivalent of football hooligans. The cause didn't matter, and they would fight anyone: the opposition, the side they were supposed to be on, the police. They were all, to a man, massive misogynists - the kind who later were covering up for sexual assaults in leftie organisations and parties.

ToeToToe · 05/10/2018 11:49

Another example - at 3:25 on this video.

A transactivist turns on one of his female allies, for trying to stop Maria M being beaten up. Male violence.

53rdWay · 05/10/2018 12:07

Just like the ‘feminist’ men who come out misogynistic slurs about conservative female politicians and so on, then whine when asked not to because they’re only doing it to the BAD women. Yeah thanks blokes, real ally-ship there. Hmm

RealGhouls · 05/10/2018 12:16

"So, when WPUK meeting was cancelled, a well-known male activist called Hope, or ManInPink - announced he was going to the home address of one of the (female) councillors involved in the cancellation."

Hope is an Antifa, they are not known for their peaceful protest really.

RealGhouls · 05/10/2018 12:16

Hope is also into animal rights activism as well. So.....

ToeToToe · 05/10/2018 12:26

Doesn't surprise me.

Violent men looking for a cause is about right for a lot of them - antifa, animal rights, trans rights, alt right.

ToeToeToe www.facebook.com/groups/1783311215332784/permalink/2050468461950390/

"Some of these are part of the Shropshire animal rights movement and aren't even veggie let alone vegan. They need their heads stomping on!

"Shropshire UNITE Branch meeting was repeatedly disrupted after the late, unexpected, entry of trans rights activists Sophie Garratt and Lucy Hill-Hempstead, who had never attended the branch meeting before despite nominally being members."

(Lucy appears to be female (not trans), I assume Sophie is as well but who knows.

Some of the others posts there: 'Time the IRA made a comeback x'

'Hit report from Italy x' (re arson at a farm)

'Oh dear haha!' (re a dairy farmer hitting his head and dying)

'Why didn't some one just wack him?' (for eating meat a vegan festival)

He also harasses (most likely female) staff/volunteers at BHF stores.

Also supports the ALF & endorsed this statement www.facebook.com/groups/1783311215332784/permalink/2022472484749988/ which refers to car bombing vets www.newscientist.com/article/mg12617210-500-vets-targeted-in-bombing-attacks/ only being regrettable in that it failed to kill them.

I felt a bit ill after that so stopped scrolling, I think that's more than enough....

PerkingFaintly · 05/10/2018 13:08

Oh god.

I thought it would be "people of the same stamp as violent animal rights activists."

Stupid me. Of course. Some are the actual same people, aren't they?

FloralBunting · 05/10/2018 13:15

Thank flipping flip this thread is here. I watched the video in horror. I'm pro life, and while demonstrations aren't generally my bag, I support the right of anyone to peacefully make their case.

What this guy did is just simply indefensible. It was so totally out of the blue, a bit like he fantasized about doing it and thought it would be cool. Knob.
