Being pro-choice does not excuse male violence

A canadian hairdresser has been fired after roundhouse kicking a female anti-abortion protester. He's now claiming to be like MLK and Gandhi.

No, mr hairdresser, I do not want you "on my side". I do not want nor need violent males like you on this planet, whether or not you claim to be on "my side". When a woman is raped and needs an abortion, it's because of a male who thought it was ok to be violent to women, a violent man just like you. Three women per week are killed in the UK by violent men, men who think it's ok to hit women like you do.

You are the cause of women's oppression. You are contributing to patriarchy by committing violence against women you don't like. Your actions have a chilling effect on all women, because all of us fear that disagreement with men like you will end in your violence against us.

I am glad that you have been fired. I hope that your fellow protesters recognise the risk that you pose to all women and shun you. I hope that the police take this incident seriously and that you are prosecuted and the book thrown at you.

You do not speak nor act for me.

Sorry, I didn't mean to derail the thread, which is specifically about violent men who choose "women's rights"Hmm as their cause.

NotANotMan · 05/10/2018 13:21

This man is utterly disgusting (though that twitter account was almost definitely fake)

RealGhouls · 05/10/2018 13:22

I read his blog. He accuses several people of being rapists. This may be true. But then again it might not. There are no supporting links. It seems to be a fascist tactic to do this.

LassWiADelicateAir · 05/10/2018 13:41

So, when WPUK meeting was cancelled, a well-known male activist called Hope, or ManInPink - announced he was going to the home address of one of the (female) councillors involved in the cancellation

Every single radical feminist on that twitter thread was "NO! Not in our name

I only know of ManInPink because he is mentioned on here with approval for being a man happy to wear a dress and for being gender critical.

RealGhouls · 05/10/2018 13:44

Sorry I should clarify that is Hope's blog.

Sample: "First up is this man. His real identity is . He only came onto the political scene a couple of years back. He claimed to have been homeless. The truth was he had been in prison for child rape. He is banned from his family home for life so one can assume he raped a child from within that family unit."

The accusation may or may not be true (and I'm inclined to think 'not'), but what it is weaponised rape, the instrumentalisation of violence against a woman or child to denounce an opposition. The same thing the BNP did.

Politelygiveszerofucks · 05/10/2018 13:54

What was so chilling about it was the way in which he cooly took aim.

Apparently this was a planned annual peaceful demonstration. Hence the women with the pro-choice board to counter-protest.

This guy got his marker pen and defaced not only the pro-life boards but also went round drawing on people’s backs and ruining their clothes, including children who were there. The police really need to act.

AngryAttackKittens · 05/10/2018 13:57

Look at his facial expression and body language as he does it. This is a game to him, a fun event to participate in with his mates.

I bet that the woman he kicked doesn't look like a member of his "tribe" and that's part of the reason he thinks it's fine to attack her. Not because he cares about the wellbeing of women in his group either, but because hitting them might bring consequences socially.

I'm as left wing as it gets, but I really think that we need to take on board the fact that a significant proportion of young antifa-affiliated leftist men don't quite understand that right wing people are people. Or indeed that anyone is who doesn't look and think just like them.

AngryAttackKittens · 05/10/2018 13:59

OK, that's Hope off my list of reasonable trans people we can potentially work with on some issues.

BeenHereAWhileNow · 05/10/2018 14:08

That Canadian is disturbing, no anger just a certainty that the woman he disagreed with deserved it. I'm glad he's lost his job and I hope she sues. I'm pro choice but men like him are the reason I wouldn't attend any pro choice protests.

TheWholeHog · 05/10/2018 15:10

Oh. I liked Hope. That’s disappointing.

silentcrow · 05/10/2018 15:22

It's all just "shut up, woman", isn't it. I despair.

Also, if it truly was a properly trained roundhouse kick, his dojo or club want taking to task. I hope his teachers are thoroughly ashamed of him and revoke his licence. Angry

Barracker · 05/10/2018 17:44

Good God.

That's grim. On both counts, the kicking man and 'Hope'.

Unequivocally condemn both.

53rdWay · 05/10/2018 20:34

a significant proportion of young antifa-affiliated leftist men don't quite understand that right wing people are people.

Yes, I’ve noticed this too. And a pretty broad definition of ‘Nazi’ or ‘fascist’, which I think is intended as a principled stand but instead comes off as Rik from the Young Ones but more slaveringly enthusiastic about the idea of violence.

Freespeecher · 05/10/2018 21:43

It was actually quite a good illustration of the way it should be done (before that doofus turned up). Two people with diametrically opposed views, each respecting the other's right to protest.

They deserved better than being set upon by that numbskull.
