Let's hope MPs, esp. Tory ones, are reading this.

Unfortunately it won't let me read it! It says it was only free for a short time.

ocelot41 · 30/09/2018 07:32

Rod Liddle is not a feminist ally, women. Be careful who you align yourselves with! Have a wee Google, or just talk to any of the women who have worked with him.

MindTheMinotaur · 30/09/2018 07:34

The link is stating it was only free for a limited time. I think I can summarise from the title but will follow the discussion Smile

Molokonono · 30/09/2018 07:34

ocelot, we know Rod bloody Liddle but so called 'friends and allies' of women are not speaking out so if it takes Rod bloody Liddle to have the balls to do so then so be it.

ocelot41 · 30/09/2018 07:36

I don't agree. It harms your cause to line up with someone who has so much contempt for women.

TimeLady · 30/09/2018 07:37

Let's try the link again - it may be because it was in the first post

He says himself in the article he is not a feminist ally - but he's a very good messenger when it comes to reaching a different demographic. He was also very much involved with Labour back in the Bellos days.

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 30/09/2018 07:44

Oh Liddle's a twat; but he's right about this. He doesn't harm our cause. Our cause has been suppressed and he's communicating it.

Starkstaring · 30/09/2018 07:47

He's the little boy who has spotted that the Emperor isn't wearing anything and lacks the tact to keep his mouth shut.

LittleLebowski · 30/09/2018 07:48

Anyway, good luck to Bellos. How awful at 67 to suddenly find yourself on the wrong side of history and stablemates with fascists like me.
Yes, just about sums up the current shitshow sadly. When the so-called 'friends and allies' of women have drunk the kool-aid or are too scared to say anything when a dictionary definition poster is taken down, then I say well done to anyone using their public platform to point out the total absurdity taking over.
Thanks Timelady for the share token.

Molokonono · 30/09/2018 07:48

If i am in the street being hassled by a bunch of men and Rod Liddle told them all to fuck off and leave me alone, I'll say 'thanks Rod' not 'oh Rod, it is a shame it is you. I'd rather be assaulted by these men that have you bat them away as you are no ally to women'.

What a ridiculous attitude.

SwearyG · 30/09/2018 07:50

How is sharing an opinion with someone lining up with them? Surely the point that people who are so opposed on so many things come together on this is part of our strength. Suggesting we can’t be on the same side as people who we consider to hold odious views is pushing towards ideological purity and is foolish.

I’m sure that if I sat in a room with prominent transactivists there would be plenty of things we agree on (Brexit, abortion, the shitshow that is our current government) but we disagree on the trans demands agenda. Does that mean that me being anti-Brexit is wrong? No, it just means that politics isn’t all or nothing.

Rod Liddle is a twerp, and the way he’s written about this shows him to be a twerp, but he is writing about it and people will agree with him. Feminists aren’t being heard on this on their own. We need shouty idiots to do so too.

ocelot41 · 30/09/2018 07:52

I think it makes us look like reactionary right wingers but, y'know, your call. You've read about how he treated his first wife? What he has said about Daisy Buchanan when she describe sexual assaults? That he was cautioned by the police for allegedly punching his pregnant girlfriend? Way too many red lines for me there, so I will bow out now.

kesstrel · 30/09/2018 07:53

"lining up with" "aligning with"

WTF does that even mean in this context? It's sheer hyperbole. Just because two people agree that people with a penis aren't women doesn't mean they're "lining up with" one another on any other issue.

This is exactly the kind of thought-policing that has got us into this mess, with everyone having to pretend to believe the same thing for fear of social and professional rejection, and terrified to voice their actual views on actual reality for fear of being accused of "lining up with" the right.

BiologyMatters · 30/09/2018 07:53

You know the kind of man who goes on about the left eating itself is just a massive prick.

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 30/09/2018 07:56

Yeah. He's a massive prick. But sadly for us; people listen to massive pricks these days

xxmarksthespot · 30/09/2018 08:00

Liddle is calling 2nd wave feminists and other women who want basic human rights, "victims".

He is laughing that some other "victim" might be "shrieking more loudly" and thinking it serves us right.

He is undermining what we say by calling the whole thing a catfight - dismissing the very real complaints that women have.

In no way does this get our message out, it is not what our message is.

This is not about some finer point of political disagreement, it is about a man who thinks the actual victims of male violence should be mocked and dismissed.

hackmum · 30/09/2018 08:01

It's sheer hyperbole.

The whole piece is hyperbole - that's his schtick. The question isn't really whether he's an ally to feminists - he's not - but whether articles like this will enrage and horrify Sunday Times readers, which they will. Without Liddle, a lot of those readers wouldn't know this was happening. So in this context, Liddle is a good thing.

TimeLady · 30/09/2018 08:04

661 words and he coveredthe absurdity in :

the Bellos/Kendal prosecution
the billboard
the Girl Guides
males in women's prisons
gender stereotyping and hormones in young children
males in female sport

Well done, Rod. I'd say that was very efficient use of space. Every single word a nail in the transgender coffin.

Babdoc · 30/09/2018 08:08

Agreeing with him as a useful ally and publicist for our cause does not in the least mean that we approve of his views on everything else.
During the Scottish independence referendum I campaigned for Better Together alongside a wide spectrum of people from Communists to Tory landed gentry. I obviously couldn’t share political affiliations with all of them, but we had common ground on our single issue.
Rod is especially useful in getting our message out to people who would never look at feminist material. He can peak trans Times reading men. Many of those have power and influence that we badly need. Go, Rod!

TimeLady · 30/09/2018 08:10

And he's not right wing - he was a Labour party member. He holds most politicians in contempt as far as I can see.

You only have to read the below the line comments in The Spectator to see the anti-feminists in full flow. Rod is talking to directly to them and they will listen to him. And hopefully react.

OP posts:
spreadingchestnuttree · 30/09/2018 08:11

I agree with almost all the main points in this article. I'm glad it's out there. I doubt I "align" with Rod Liddle on much else.

ocelot41 · 30/09/2018 08:11

Thank you XX. I think there is a genuine risk that in our alarm at new forms of misogyny, we minimise or overlook old school forms of misogyny. Words like twerp and year are minimising. The old saying is true: when a man tells you who he is, listen. Liddle has been telling us loud and clear for years what he really thinks of women - and his personal life shows that he's not just doing it for shock journalism. Anywhere else on these boards, we would be saying LTB for that kind of behaviour.

ocelot41 · 30/09/2018 08:12

twat not year

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 30/09/2018 08:12

ocelot

I do see what you are saying. But id we lose the battle to define what a woman is; then everything else is lost
