Do you have a female MP? This thread is for you!

I went to see my (male) constituency MP the other day.

He's surprisingly gender critical! I didn't have to explain the issues to him, he gets it.

He says he speaks up for women's rights in Parliament, on this issue. But it makes it tough when he's a man speaking up for women's rights and then female MPs - often from his own party even - disagree.

He said it seemed to him many of them are poorly informed and have been got at by the trans lobby.

The women in Parliament really should know what's going on here.

So, do you have a female MP? Have you been to see them yet? If not, how about emailing them this week and asking for an appointment?

You don't spend ages on crafting the email btw - if they're your local MP they should see you (do mention you're local).

Here's Posie Parker's guide to meeting your MP.

YEs. I’ve written to her about inclusivity, and the horrible abuse that trans people receive from the GC cult.

She wa very sympathetic and is fully behind the trans community.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 18/09/2018 21:55

God forbid. I bet I can guess your constituency DonnaBeee

rememberatime · 18/09/2018 21:55

what if your MP happens to be Maria Miller??

I don't think there's any getting through to her.

Cismyfatarse1 · 18/09/2018 21:56

Sadly, I have a man - useless!! One illiterate letter in reply to 4 I have sent him.

Shame that some of them are listening to the trans lobby. We are 51% and will reflect this in our voting next time. I am certainly not voting for someone with their fingers in their ears going la la la on any issue. They should listen, think, research, ask questions.

womensvoicesmatter · 18/09/2018 22:00

See, DonnaBe, the thing we have on our side is once people see the emperor has no clothes on, there's no unseeing it.

It's a one way street.

And - cult? You're projecting again.

I finally plucked up courage and wrote.

She seemed quite sympathetic regarding my concerns on how the TRA militant lobby are putting children (especially girls) at risk.

I doubt she'll put her head over the parapet though.

womensvoicesmatter · 18/09/2018 22:03

what if your MP happens to be Maria Miller

Still worth a try. Even if only to plant a tiny seed that might not grow into anything until years later. My MP thought she wasn't that well informed either.

What's she into? There must be a crossover at some point into things she cares about.

Also - the prisons stories are going to blow up even more I reckon. Plus the tide is turning. Once it becomes a bit more obvious the trans ship is sinking, she might want to jump ship,

OP posts:
womensvoicesmatter · 18/09/2018 22:06

HawkeyeInC I don't think we need them to put their head over the parapet publicly, though.

I really wanted my MP to, before seeing him. He's not going to be a public spokesperson on this issue, but he is speaking up in Parliament.

If she's sympathetic, ask her what she's doing to help in Parliament? Is she speaking up?

Have you been to see her in person?

I have written to and emailed my MP. Followup from first ignored email

I am wondering whether to mention Rachel Dolezal if she dismisses me. She is black

What do you think?

Prestonsflowers · 18/09/2018 22:25

Sorry DonnaBe
You have that the wrong way round.
It’s the Trans cult, not the GC cult
The GC have truth on their side and eventually the truth will emerge
Don’t you understand, this is about Women’s rights not some made up bullshit.

FlippinFumin · 18/09/2018 22:34

I wrote to my female MP and asked her to pas my concerns to Penny M. I received the standard reply from PM but my MP was more polite and said to keep her informed of any further concerns. Actually this men in women’s prisons might be worth bugging her with.

DukeOfSussex · 18/09/2018 22:43

@donnabe I'm sorry to hear that, what horrible abuse is that? For you to be concerned it must be far worse than the rape and death threats gc women receive from TAs. Flowers

I hope they aren't on the receiving end of actual physical assault and rape like women who have been attacked by transwomen.

TheCumbrian · 18/09/2018 22:45

is there a thread anywhere about which MPs have been contacted and their responses?

My MP is the minister for prisons (Rory Stewart) so possibly worth contacting but I would be interested to know if anyone else has already spoken to him about it so I know how strongly to word my strongly worded letter?

Surely between MNers we should be able to contact all of the MPs and keep a general record of their responses?

I know a couple of transexuals who cause me no concern whatsoever (and one cross dresser who does) but I have two daughters and feel its important to act to preserve the few sex based protections for them that I have briefly been privileged to utilise since I was old enough for it to matter to me.

Sex matters.

TheSteveMilliband · 18/09/2018 22:47

I've just heard back from my (male) MP who was very sympathetic and assured me Penny M was "all over it". Hopefully this is true, it's given me some hope together with the inquiry into GIDS referral rates that she may have peaktransd.

Sparctopus · 18/09/2018 22:47

Have both written to & met mine, I think she was at least somewhat sympathetic to what I was saying & she wrote to PM with some of my questions and enclosing a WPUK leaflet I gave her (with the 5 demands). As far as I'm aware she's not "come out" as GC publicly so far though.

littlbrowndog · 18/09/2018 22:48

Lols at Donna

Crack on Donna then have a wee search around and see I& you can find your brain
When you fin£ it try using it

womensvoicesmatter · 18/09/2018 22:52

Your email may not even have been read by the MP, it might have been read by an aide. I'd focus on asking for a meeting or turning up at a drop in surgery if she does one.

I am wondering whether to mention Rachel Dolezal if she dismisses me. She is black

I'm not sure I would. It's not a point that convinces those who are already intrenched IMO.

When handing out FPFW flyers on the weekend, one of the things we were focusing on was that this is a change that affects women, yet no women's groups have been consulted. We deserve to have our voices heard as part of this consultation.

It might be worth asking her - does she know what the government has done to promote the consultation in your area? What is her party doing to ensure community groups affected by any GRA changes are aware of the consultation?

For example, has anyone considered Muslim women / Orthodox Jewish women? They're not permitted to be in private with strange men. The "inclusive" policy of allowing transwomen in to women's spaces doesn't end up being that inclusive at all, as it excludes much larger groups of women than it includes transwomen. Has she thought about that?

What minority ethnic groups are in your local area? Has your MP talked to them about their views on Self ID?

I don’t think it’s a good idea to out MPs on this issue. We need them to engage with us, not get scared off by TRAs. I had a decent discussion with mine, but she is keeping her head down and speaking to people behind the scenes at this stage.

womensvoicesmatter · 18/09/2018 22:57

Exactly. Before I met mine, I wanted him to be publicly GC. But I get what he's doing, having spent time talking to him. He's speaking up for us in Parliament.

Hopefully once there's enough of them, they will speak up.

OP posts:
TheCumbrian · 18/09/2018 23:01

ah fair enough, I should have thought of that Blush

How have we got to the stage where we can't discuss what an MP's views are because of the social media fallout gthat will ensue if they are 'outed' as GC Sad

newtlover · 18/09/2018 23:16

I have contacted my female mp, 3 times now, and got TWAW in response- just recently emailed about the TW in a women's prison, she is on mat leave (oh the irony) so am looking forward to hearing from her staff.

womensvoicesmatter · 18/09/2018 23:32

You might just be communicating with her staff, who will be trotting out the party line.

Do you know when she's back? A meeting is much more effective than an email.

Yes, female MP here. I'm in contact. Interested to see how it goes.

(Tickled by the passive aggressive visitor. Not really hitting the 'wowing the room' effect they were aiming at, but there you go)

GetAwayFromHer · 19/09/2018 05:37

Womensvoicemeatter

Ah yes, good one. I did mention this in the local Equality consultation as it's a huge issue in this area. The document was riddled with conflation of sex and gender and had the 'assumed at birth' line (not even 'assigned'). Didn't mention in my recent letter as it was focussed on prisons and I wanted to keep it as short as I could.
