It's obvious to anyone who knows teenage girls that transing is this decade's self harm.

Course if self-id was adopted as some propose, the stats wouldn't reflect the rise in young girls being referred. Just a jump in children being referred.

Then it would no doubt be put down to increased awareness of dysphoria and hence more diagnosis. In other words, girls' body distress would not be investigated and yet again the male violence that underlies so much of it would get to be disappeared from his-story

Last night a source at the Government Equalities Office said: “There has been a substantial increase in the number of individuals assigned female at birth being referred to the NHS..."

I think they mean "born female".

Official figures show the number of girls being given gender treatment has risen from 40 in 2009-10 to 1,806 in 2017-18

And that doesn't include those who don't seek help through the NHS and buy hormones off the internet insread.

And those presenting to adult clinics at age 18 who have never been involved with children's gender services.

I worry about who they will consult with. Does anyone know about how this works?

In theory this could be a good start, but what percentage of kids are self-medicating and will thus fall through the cracks?

Somebody on the Mail thread says the government are complicit in this and they are absolutely right. They and “woke” charities fund the likes of mermaids and stonewall.

Because gender stereotyping is being perpetuated and re-enforced and they are targeting vulnerable teenagers by appearing as an understanding and accepting group when kids are at their lowest.

It's not hard to figure out how it's increased, it's the same way cults target people.

Just saw this! So relieved they are going to take this seriously. I have personal experience of this issue and it concerns me greatly.
It's incredibly important to get this right and we just don't know wtf is happening.

We need independent studies not dubious interest groups (aka "charities") pushing their own self validating agendas.

I'm going to write to PM to thank her for this. She will be targeted with abuse, which is terrifying in itself.

Let's just hope the enquiry is brave and independent too.

Absolutely essential that people keep tabs on who EXACTLY is being asked for evidence here. You just KNOW that the usual suspects will be all over this like a rash.

It's being reported in the Telegraph and Express too now and TRAs seem to be very quiet on subject.

I doubt it, but the tide seems to be turning and people have started realising questions need to be asked without discussions being shut down.

I wouldn't be surprised if the report concludes that more girls are coming out because the issue is talked about and supported much more.

They could also usefully ask themselves why the other cohort of people coming out as trans is middle aged men.

This is a false dawn. It’ll end up with a conclusion that services need more funding so that girls can be passed more quickly through this machine. Not least because they’ll hear from Stonewall and all the other cultists and they’ve all now got too much invested in being on this side of the argument to backtrack now.

rightreckoner if stonewall is indeed 95% white and male and the government still chooses them as a primary consultant on this, who will take any of that seriously?
