Let's show that trans-excluding people and trans-including people can work together. You give me an example of a school or leisure centre of swimming pool where the mixed changing area (a) doesn't include lockable cubicles and/or (b) does include nakedness-allowed showers. We all work together to politely lobby the school/leisure centre/pool. A win-win situation for everyone!

OP posts:

Asking women to hide away in separate fully enclosed cubicles isn't the solution that immediately springs to my mind when we discuss the risks of letting men into spaces where women get naked.

Shall we all wear chastity belts too? Then nobody can ever be vaginally raped and men can be wherever they like without women having to be the slightest bit concerned. Win-win in your world?

Juells · 12/09/2018 15:04

BettyDuMonde

It was the gap under the cubicle that a man’s head came through when I was changing - your proposal wouldn’t do a thing about that.

If only you'd had one of those girl-dicks you could have pissed in his eye. That'd larn him.

Descent · 12/09/2018 15:07

Men need to fuck off out of women's spaces and leave women the fuck alone! Why is this so hard for these people to grasp? So sick of this TRA shower of abusers.

Juells · 12/09/2018 15:09

The OP wants to target individual places. Make sure there are floor-to-ceiling cubicles, no possibility of getting a phone in, under, over, or slipped through a gap in the door, etc.

So basically turn a changing into a fortress to protect the women that are already protected by it being single sex.

Gosh, sometimes it's only when someone spells it out that the ridiculousness becomes obvious. It's so easy to get lulled by the 'separate cubicles will solve all problems why are you being so mean?' that it's a bit of a shock when someone points out the obvious flaw.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/09/2018 15:36

Hahahaha Umbridge, yes, exactly that . I always do that voice in my head when I read patronising rubbish like this.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/09/2018 15:38

Chastity belts and perhaps a dalek like outer shell. We could weeble about anywhere although stairs would be a problem, but anyway, we’d be perv and grope free ! Women! Know your place !

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 15:39

betty

That happened to a friend of mine...went to court and everything

BettyDuMonde · 12/09/2018 17:55

Rufus I’m glad your friend pursued it.

If it happened to me again I would definitely do the same as your friend.

I was in my 20s and felt invincible back then (and shouted up a goddamn motherfucking storm!) and unisex changing was totally new to me (and most councils at the time, I reckon?) but it has impacted on my day to day life ever since, because I’ve consciously risk assessed every facility I and my kids have used ever since, and have missed out on activities I would have otherwise enjoyed.

I’d imagine my experience isn’t particularly special or unusual, so that’s likely a lot of women who have lived restricted lives directly due to pervy men and their inability to keep their paraphillic behaviours to situations involving consenting adults only.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 17:58

betty

She was 'lucky' an off duty police officer was in the changing area and managed to catch me

If he hadnt been there i doubt anything would have happened

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 18:06

Oops

Him...not me

I mean i like her and all...just not in that way

stillathing · 12/09/2018 18:11

funnily enough i've thought for a long time reading fwr that i, personally, was fairly cool with mixed sex changing. all my local pools have them so i don't really have a choice if i want to swim. if i am forced to share with male bodied people i would rather do it in a mixed sex designed area than in one designed for single sex - I would feel very scared if alone there with a male bodied person as they tend to be in a closed off room and to have communal changing and showers.

anyway, i considered myself ok with mixed sex changing areas but i respected the fact that many women are not. and guess what? a man has just been charged with taking photos of women and girls changing by sliding his phone under the very low cubicle walls at my nearest pool. turns out he'd also been spotted repeatedly just happening to shower at the same time as groups of school girls too. even worse, he owns a soft play centre where he installed cameras in the women's loos. so yeah. i guess where men have an opportunity, be that by social convention or by being in a position of power, there is a risk to women and children.

BettyDuMonde · 12/09/2018 19:11

Stillathing -
Yuk - at least no one had a camera phone in 1997 :/

Sadly local newspapers are full of these kinds of charges - it never reaches the national press because individually, the crimes and sentences are too low level to be of interest.

We need some kind of collective project to document them all in one place.

FloralBunting · 12/09/2018 19:18

Rufus, I'm sorry, I've just had a fit of uncontrollable giggles at your confession post there.

I now have an image of you being collared and saying "It's a fair cop, guv. Good job you were 'ere."

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 19:23

I know floral

Freudian slip and a half Grin

Cant believe I confessed so easy...i always thought id be able to withstand any torture

Apparently not

I apparently just give myself right up

FloralBunting · 12/09/2018 19:30

Rufus, you be rubbish at sock puppetry, too. Though not as bad as Dr Haddock.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 19:39

Ha thats what you think floral

Im actually datun

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 19:39

Dammit

Ive done it again

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 19:40

Lockable doors, walls that go all the way down to the floor to stop people peeping, wire-mesh roofs, etc. are all an admission shared-sex spaces don't work.

This this this.

FloralBunting · 12/09/2018 19:40

Actually, it's true. There are only five women in total posting on FWR, and we all have funfty million socks each.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 19:42

Yup

Datun · 12/09/2018 20:09

Rufus, if I catch you wearing my socks again...

You know your hooves stretch the toes.

MindTheMinotaur · 12/09/2018 20:27

I've had to climb into a locked cubicle to rescue an unconscious woman and unlock the door. I don't support floor to ceiling cubicles. Separate sex spaces would be much safer.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/09/2018 20:31

BettyDuMonde · 12/09/2018 20:39

Yes, I believe the reasoning FOR spaces under cubicles is emergency access for health and safety reasons, such as rescuing unconscious people.

So it really is safer just to have sex segregated spaces for the majority (and additional spaces for those whose needs differ).

Not sure what the deal would be for Minotaurs, though - do you need a third space? Is it statistically safe to have minotaurs share with unicorns?

What about Gorgons?

At least Gorgons have a built in safety mechanism to stop voyeurism. Turning peeping toms to stone must be really effective!

stillathing · 12/09/2018 20:39

I imagine floor to ceiling walls would be tricky for water drainage in showers and pool changing too.

betty that's an excellent idea
