Maria Caulfield MP has responded positively to requests to discuss the issues brought up by the Karen White case to be discussed in parliament:

mobile.twitter.com/mariacaulfield/status/1038783181984555010

This is great news.

Please tweet if you can to say thank you for raising this, and to ask for it to be raised as an urgent question (UQ) rather than during justice questions at PMQs.

A UQ will mean more time and discussion so a better option.

But whatever happens it's great this will be discussed. The current situation is clearly putting vulnerable women at risk, nice to see their needs now being considered.

Does Maria (Who’s a nurse) know what a woman is yet? She’s previously seemed confused?

Wanderabout · 09/09/2018 21:57

I don't know but whatever her definition it would be good to encourage politicians to give this as much airtime as possible.

Maria Caulfield has previously tweeted about how great it was to be on an ‘all woman’ panel with Lily Madigan. She was pushed into it a bit, but I’m not holding out much hope of her having actually grown some ovaries.

theOtherPamAyres · 09/09/2018 22:22

I'm not tweeting politicians to say thank you.

Cowards. Wanting to make a name for themselves - but only when it's safe to do so, and everyone else has done all the heavy lifting.

There should be resignations, not rounds of applause.

Wanderabout · 09/09/2018 22:44

The thing to tweet is more the request to make it an urgent question rather than in PMQs. An UQ will make it sooner and give much more time than PMQs.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 09/09/2018 22:47

What pam said...

Coward indeed.

LizzieSiddal · 09/09/2018 22:47

Well, I’ll tweet them and thank them. Many people have come round too slowly to the sensible side, but I’ll welcome everyone of them.

Caroline Flint has also tweeted her dismay re the Karen White case tonight.

They’ll probably both be called TERFs and nazis, They need our support.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 09/09/2018 23:37

I'll happily thank anyone who is prepared to acknowledge the conflict between women's rights and Self-ID. I'm not proud. One of nature's pragmatists.

tiredandweary · 10/09/2018 00:07

Yup - I'd tweet in support - but don't do twitter Grin.

I do appreciate where people are coming from but we need politicians to stand up for this. I've moaned long and loud about their failure so when a few souls start to put their heads above the parapet, I'll support them. They are going to get piled on by the TRAs and, bloody frustrating as it is, I'm not going to join in with the complaints, confuse the message and frighten off other MPs. (However I will be thinking dark thoughts in private about how bloody useless they've all been)

SweetGrapes · 10/09/2018 00:37

Have tweeted my thanks and asked for it to be a UQ. Maybe cowards but am happy people are asking questions and will show my support and encourage them.

OlennasWimple · 10/09/2018 02:16

A UQ gets more time and has to be answered

And when the Speaker is deciding whether to grant a UQ, he will consider the level of public interest in the issue - so tweeting is a good way to demonstrate the level of concern about the paedophile rapist

miri1985 · 10/09/2018 02:34

Apparently by asking an elected representative to raise a question in parliament about a recent case people are "playing" her

I don't think we can afford to let the TRAs be the only people who contact politicians. (Of course they will blame us for "playing" and "brigading" though - I guess what they do is very different.)

NotMeOhNo · 10/09/2018 05:57

Hi Maria,
Just letting you know you are being played by someone who polices discussion over trans ideology to prevent scrutiny over her assenting to irreversible changes to her child's body.

TimeLady · 10/09/2018 06:38

Tweeted.

Wanderabout · 10/09/2018 09:05

Thanks all.

Is a Mermaids staff member seriously suggesting that asking an MP to discuss changing prison rules to avoid rapists being put in a woman's prison and harming women is 'playing' an MP. Jesus.

And she's suggesting that asking the NSPCC safeguarding questions is 'transphobic'.

Rapist in a woman's prison - 'just skip it'.

NSPCC flouting normal safeguarding practice and not prepared to give a straight answer to parents - just skip it.

No, I don't think so.

OP posts:
MsMcWoodle · 10/09/2018 09:17

MC is my MP. She has been guardedly interested, without doing anything much publicly that I can see.
Good news about this though.
Re Mermaids - hopefully she will take them with a pinch of salt as I have already sent her the screen shots of Helen trying to get someone hacked, trying to harass Graham Linhan and encouraging mass reporting of WPUK.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 10/09/2018 09:34

Ah, Helen. Currently repeating the razor blade lie and retweeting year old articles from the ripper of women's rights Shon, telling silly women not to worry about rapists in prison pretending to be women because there are male guards who will attack them too.

R0wantrees · 10/09/2018 09:48

Re the NSPCC talk which was cancelled.

This is the thread where questions for the NSPCC were listed, along with their response. Anyone following Helen from Mermaids suggestion might read it & hopefully consider it for themselves.

MN members raised a number of serious safeguarding concerns:

Floisme · 10/09/2018 10:52

All credit to Maria Caulfield but am I right in thinking she’s a backbench conservative MP? Surely it should be the opposition holding the government to account? Isn’t that their job?
Where is the Shadow Minister of Justice hiding? The Shadow Home Secretary?

IAmLurkacus · 10/09/2018 11:05

Floisme

I’m sure they’ll appear to hold the government to account if the government tries to encroach upon the rights of rapists and paedophiles Hmm

groundcontroltomontydon · 10/09/2018 11:35

The Welsh Affairs Cmte is discussing prison provision in Wales right now. David TC Davies has just been putting questions about transgender prisoners.

Tanith · 10/09/2018 11:36

The Shadow Justice minister is Richard Burgon, MP for East Leeds.
The Shadow Home Secretary is Diane Abbot, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington.

IAmLurkacus · 10/09/2018 12:23

This Dianne Abbot?

Well done David Davies 😊
