apologies if this has already been mentioned in the proceeding 16(!!!) pages, but I was just reading the excellent blog here: murrayblackburnmackenzie.org/2020/09/24/back-under-the-radar-a-review-of-plans-for-the-census/

and saw the reference to how 2% of the male prison population in 2018 identified as trans

the 2% figure comes from a survey conducted by the chief inspector of prisons for eng & wales for their 2018-19 report here:

Apparently there are around 80k men in prison in the UK. So that's 1,600 who apparently believe they have a claim to be in women's prisons. That's a shocking number. And of course at 2% that's about twice the rate believed for the rest of the population. I wonder why??

It makes me so angry that those who have dismissed the concerns of women around self ID and have written it off as meaningless "whataboutism" imply that the concern around having male-bodied people in women's prisons is us picking on inconsequential numbers. There's fewer than 4000 women in prison (admittedly these figs are from wikipedia - I think we'd need to be careful about using 2020 prison figs due to a number of prisoners being moved to deal with Covid). Just imagine the ratio of transwomen to women if self ID was permitted.
