The comments make for interesting reading and show how misinformed people are. One commenter talks about post-surgery and clearly has no idea that many elect not to go for surgery. Another commenter discussies male transition in prison, trans women and crime in the female estate only to be told this is untrue and ‘where did you get this?’. Incredible.

Yikes that's a depressing thread to read. Pro-trans person, at pains to say he does not agree in the slightest with the GC position, posts to say he thinks the conversation could be handled better.

Every single reply is a version of #NoDebate and insisting that shouting Bigot at people is the way forward. Nasty, nasty bunch.

I agree it's depressing, but maybe also indicative of some people up at the top getting cold feet about the hard line the TRAs enforce around the debate. Cos they must know by now it looks awful, and is turning more people off than anything else.

He must have known he'd get hammered, despite all his efforts. But he did it anyway. So, possibly there are rather less diplomatic conversations going in board rooms and behind closed doors about what to do about the Trans PR nightmare. And that tweet thread could be the public "walking on eggshells" face of that ?

Yes, possibly. One can hope. Of course, what is at base so disturbing about those kinds of conversations is that they are all about how the TRA PR machine might not be doing a very good job at getting the message across, and nothing at all to do with engaging with the fears and concerns being presented by women.

It's just designed to hone the advertising message - so incredibly superficial. Polishing a turd, essentially.

Wise mumsnetters, I posed a question on a new thread. To your knowledge, have we recently petitioned Stonewall directly to engage in debate/dialogue with us? I know we have petitioned the government, but perhaps we could have one just asking LGBT groups to TALK to us with the Stickerwoman momentum? Is that a stupid idea?

Yes. I think people at the top have seen the polling and the increased awareness (and perhaps some behind the scenes rumblings about various possible vulnerabilities - eg the Jess Bradley allegations and are there more like this still at the rumbling stage) and are beginning to see that some back pedalling is required.

I think that'll go over like overtures from the opposition during an election.

Until the outcome of the consultation becomes known, I think they'll be primarily be focused on "winning" that.

If the consultation fails to cut the mustard, then they might soften. Cos for a while there it looked like it was a slam dunk to them. Before stickerwoman turned up and made it look more shakey.

I was really struck by the accounts linked to on part 1 of this thread, where a trans woman talked about their experience of walking around naked in the women's changing room, juxtaposed with a woman's experience of the same thing happening at her gym. It was very powerful.

I'm wondering if there's a way to get both of those on one page along with a link to the consultation and a deadline... I would happily stick those up anywhere and everywhere.

It's so upsetting to see all those people wisely agreeing with each other that lesbians should be prevented from trying to do anything like that ever again. No discussion about why they might have wanted to do it, just huffing and puffing about the cheek of them.

I can change the title pic to anything you want. And I can make the presentation of the story images a lot more "swishy". But you pay for swishy with slower download times. So it depends if you prefer the high impact of better visuals, or holding onto impatient types who click off if something doesn't download fast enough for them. It is already quite slow (I'm an impatient type) so I went for this version, but can swish it up quite happily. Try out the link on as many devices/OSs as you can. Any issues with readability let me know and I'll tweak. 😘😘
