Read this on the BBC earlier

here

She has quit twitter because she got loads of abuse over accepting role of Batwoman who apparently has been a lesbian since 2006 (comic company wanted to increase diversity).

I don't really follow the article, seems twitter are angry for some reason - because she's not a lesbian or because she's gender fluid - not sure and going to google a bit more.

Just seems to me that in recent months, all of the backlash against people doing "minority" roles that are not what they are / ID as are cunty people aka those previously known as women.

This is a GNC woman as far as I can see - why shouldn't she play batwoman? We dont' normally insist on the sexuality of the actor being the same do we? And it seems she is lesbian or bi herself anyway (never heard of her will investigate).

Interesting reaction. I think she looks like she'd make a good batwoman personally from the pics.

This acting gig should be reserved for a Jewish lesbian bat. Only a Jewish lesbian bat would understand this role. There are so few acting gigs for Jewish lesbian bats - well - obviously - this should go to that Jewish lesbian bat waiting in the wings ... anything else is anti-Semitic homophobic anti-batness.

I was just worried because I didn't know it was a thing," Ruby told Willie. "I knew how I felt, I knew what I kind of identified as, but the words gay or lesbian, I didn't know anyone else that was gay or lesbian, so I didn't really know how to word it

How is it possible to have been born in 1986, live in Melbourne, have a single parent, artist mother and have so little knowledge about being gay?

No context as to how old Ruby was when the conversation happened though, to me the way she described it sounded like the way quite a young girl might have talked to her mum. I remember my dd first telling dh and me that she was interested in girls and I'm pretty sure she didn't say that she was bisexual (and she was born in 2000).
