I just read on another thread that Justine is meeting with Penny Mordaunt soon.

In Justine's words: 'You should also know that I’m due to meet soon with Penny Mordaunt to discuss “any ideas you may have on the women and equalities agenda’' and I will of course reflect the strong opinion of many Mumsnetters wrt to this issue and ask her to do a webchat too.'

I thought this was worth highlighting so people can leave comments here for @justinemumsnet to mull over and raise with Penny. Perhaps, Justine, you could print them all off and hand them over to her when you see her.

Thank you.

Is Penny Mordant aware of the current suspension of NUS Trans officer Jess Bradley? The details of the allegations under investigation are likely significant to the GRA consultation & Equalities Act.

Also may be prudant if The Womens & Equalities Dept considers the input & role/s played by Bradley (see Action for Trans Health / TELI). Some in-depth investigation may prove neccessary.

Can I add to the point above re Jess Bradley.

Will Penny be carrying out due diligence in the future before allowing people to have such influence on consultations and debate. Although this report is new, concerns about Jess and their views have been known for much longer.

Where is the support for (young) lesbians? LGBT groups are often now dominated by at least the genderqueer ideology. Where can young lesbians go to get validation for their sexuality? How many groups are there for young lesbians ? - answer - none. How many groups for young trans? about 700. Many with LA funding.

Is she really OK that there is so much pressure to transition with all its horrifying medical + surgical risks, rather than having loads of happy lesbians and gay men?

sociopathsunited · 31/07/2018 12:01

I'm curious about Penny's statement today, on the BBC website, about the horrific abuse of power in the charity sector, with specific reference to sexual abuse by men on women (and perhaps children, but I really hope not and I've not seen any reference to it).

"Mr Twigg said the Department for International Development should report annually on the safeguarding performance of the sector and ensure the Charity Commission has enough resources to police it.

International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt welcomed the report, saying: "Until the sector is fully prepared to address the power imbalance, cultures, and behaviours that allow sexual abuse, exploitation and harassment to happen, we will never stamp it out.""

I'd like to know if the same standards are going to be applied to the safeguarding of women and children in this country. When are you going to listen to women? How many victims will be needed here before you back-pedal?

Well said, sociopathsunited.

Question for Ms Penny Mordaunt, via Justine Roberts:

Why are we, as a society, being forced to accept as a reality the Legal Fiction, created by the Gender Recognition Act 2004, that a human can change sex?

No other Legal Fiction impacts on the lives of an entire society in the way that this one does.

This Legal Fiction claims that women [females] can be men [males], that men [males] can be women [females]. This is clearly redefining the meaning of the biological sexes of our entire society. It renders both sex classes as meaningless, that is, that what is understood to be female and male cease to exist.

TheCountryGirl · 31/07/2018 16:38

Good question, Socio. I saw that statement and thought she is either very hypocritical, very stupid or worst of all...cares NOTHING for the women and girls in this country. At least not compared to the genderists' feelz.

Indierockandroll · 31/07/2018 16:56

I would like to ask if Penny has seen the comments in Today's Times articles from women concerning Ann Sinnotts resignation and what Penny would say to those women who could not challenge the aggressive males in their spaces.

Also, given that Jess Bradley has exposed their penis in public spaces, does Penny still stand by her comment that Transwomen are women. And if so, on what basis please?

When will Penny Mordant and the department of Women & Equalities be investigating the points made in the following threads & the involvement of Jess Bradley (Action for TRans Health / NUS / TELI) in development of government policy?

Especially pertinent given her colleague, Maria Miller MP's recent comment in Stonewall's Domestic & Sexual Violence report:

The Rt Hon Maria Miller MP (Conservative), Chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee said: ‘In 2016, I was proud to lead the Women and Equalities Select Committee’s inquiry into transgender equality. Alongside fundamental changes within our healthcare, education and criminal justice systems, we concluded that reform of the Gender Recognition Act 2004 is urgently needed.

‘But while there is cross-party support for trans equality, misinformation is holding back progress.

‘That’s why Stonewall and nfpSynergy’s report is so important. It provides a clear, balanced account of the provision of women-only services to trans survivors. It shows us that many services already support trans women on the basis of self-identification; streamlining the legal system of gender recognition will not have an impact on the way they are able to operate.

‘As the public consultation progresses, I hope that reports such as this will be used to inform an evidence-based conversation, where everyone can be heard and treated with dignity and respect.’

Will Penny Mordant as a matter of urgency look into the current case in Canada and take seriously the needs of vulnerable women and the 'legitimate concerns' she has claimed to respect?

OP JoanSummers writes:
"I just listened to this and it is grim. A woman living in a shelter in Canada has been refused advice and representation by Ontario Human Rights Legal Support Centre because she 'misgendered' (what sounds to be) a male presenting 'transwoman' when making her initial enquiries to them about her own rights when that person was moved into her room by the shelter causing Kristi and other residents to feel vulnerable, scared, and traumatised.

Here is the audio:

Here is the article:
nationalpost.com/news/canada/kristi-hanna-human-rights-complaint-transgender-woman-toronto-shelter/

My take on the call is that the org isn't refusing to advise or represent Kristi because of the misgendering alone (although that is part of it) - I read their response as saying that a woman who refuses to share a room with a male bodied male presenting self identified 'transwoman' (or makes a complaint to the shelter about the situation) is potentially committing a crime because the male person has legal protection under Canada's 'gender' legislation. In this situation the Legal Support Centre cannot support the woman now because in the future the male person may decide to take legal action against that woman for discriminating against them.

Which means that in Canada women no longer have any usable rights as a group defined by sex, right?"

As the case is pending pre-sentencing reports, will Penny Mordant along with her colleague Nadhim Zahawi- Minister for Children be considering the wider serious implications of this case and requesting a serious case review?

Does Penny Mordant understand the wider serious implications of this case eg that two girls were sexually assaulted whilst (on at least one occasion) their father waited outside the toilet? That it seems likely a vulnerable young person (aged 17) with social care involvement may have been affirmed in their gender identity by carers so that they felt free to use these public women's toilets?

What does Penny Mordant suggest father's and young daughters do if out together and the girl needs to use a public toilet?

Does she agree that the the safety, privacy and dignity of girls must be taken more seriously?

Is Penny Mordant concerned that the government is not taking seriously the protection of children as referenced in the downgrading of the Children's ministerial role?

Penny Mordant as minister for Equalities will of course be aware of the significant work in this area achieved by Linda Bellos.

Is she aware that Linda Bellos has been targetted by some TRAs & as a consequence interviewed under caution by police. When the CPS declined to prosecute a TRA has now launched a private prosecution? They have also launched a similar case against Venice Allen.

In today's Daily Mail, Richard Littlejohn commented,
"Having fought for decades for equal representation for women, Bellos objects to plans for transgender candidates being allowed on all-women Labour shortlists.

She is also appalled by the violence directed towards feminists who oppose trans fundamentalism, especially a nasty assault on a radical feminist at a rally in London’s Hyde Park.

Bellos, a pugnacious character who still plays football and boxes at the age of 67, told a meeting in York that if any of these characters attempts to assault her: ‘I will take off my glasses and thump them.’ This was enough to have her reported to police, who for once displayed a modicum of common sense and declined to charge her. But the trans headbangers weren’t deterred.

They have now taken out a private prosecution and Bellos will have to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, accused under the Public Order Act of using threatening language which could cause alarm.

No one would mistake me and Linda Bellos for political bedfellows. But although we’re diametric opposites on most issues, I’ve always admired her conviction, passion, honesty and willingness to speak her mind, regardless of what the hell anyone else thinks"

Will Penny Mordant look into this and discuss with colleagues from Attorney General’s Office, the Home Office & the Ministry of Justice as well as seeking background from the CPS and Police involved?

I quite like the question that Posie Parker used in her presentation in Bristol: "Does my 11 yo daughter have the right to get undressed in a changing room without seeing a penis?"

Me too. Following on from this:

Penny, 80% of transwomen keep their penis.

So Penny if my 14 year old daughter sees a transwoman's penis in a women's changing room, can I sue the sports complex on her behalf as it is actually a unisex room even though labelled a woman's changing room?

How should my 14 year old daughter know whether the naked male bodied transwoman with a penis (& legal fiction of a GRC) in the changing room right beside her is flashing their penis at her deliberately or not?

What if this person with a penis who self-ID's as a woman is simply walking close by her whilst stark naked? If the penis is erect, does that matter? If my daughter is frightened by the close proximity of a naked male stranger does that matter? If it is now my child's responsibility to work out whether or not a stranger's penis in full view is being deliberately flashed at her or is just wafting by as a lady penis, will schools cover these scenarios from her point of view in sex and relationships lessons? How do you think this will affect girls' participation in sport?

How will I explain to my daughter that in some situations it is her absolute right to refuse to have anything to do with a naked penis but there are now situations where she must accept the exposed penis of a stranger in close proximity with no choice in the matter for her? We have always emphasised her right to assert her boundaries, how should we best explain to her that these boundaries have now been fundamentally changed?

Lastly Penny, my Mum is a pensioner. In the future I assume you want me to explain to her that she can no longer request intimate care from a female bodied female born person since the word woman will no longer mean this?

Has Penny Mordant read James Kirkup's article in today's Spectator?

It discusses John McDonald's live talk on Mumsnet, raises some important points about women's safety & concludes:

"And yet here we have John McDonnell, shadow chancellor and field commander of the Corbynite armies, promising to listen to women’s concerns about gender reform and to meet with WPUK. The angry mob’s reaction to that will be fascinating, to say the least.

P.S. Just a thought, but isn’t it a bit odd that John McDonnell, the Shadow Chancellor, has been willing to discuss the gender issue with Mumsnet but Penny Mordaunt, the Cabinet minister for women and equalities hasn’t managed to do so yet?"

With regards safety, will Penny Mordant support her Conservative colleague David Davies UQ about the failure to protect vulnerable females in the prison estate?

Does she agree that the refusal of this UQ by John Bercow is incredibly concerning?

At some point will Penny Mordant recognise that her brief is Women & Equalities and that her insistance on TWAW as a starting point for gender selfid may be standing in the way of her and parliament's consideration of conflicting rights and the state's duty of care with regards those housed in the female prison estate?

From the introduction to recently published Briefing Paper for MPs

BRIEFING PAPER
Number 07420, 19 September 2018
Transgender Prisoners

"2011 policy guidelines for England and Wales had stated that prisoners should normally be located in the prison estate of their gender as recognised by UK law. For transgender prisoners, a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) would normally be necessary before a person could be placed in a prison corresponding to their acquired gender. However there was some flexibility for trans prisoners who were “sufficiently advanced in the gender reassignment process”.

The Women and Equalities Committee looked at the issue of transgender prisoners as part of their wider report on Transgender Equality, published in January 2016. The Committee said
there was a “clear risk of harm” where trans prisoners are not located in a prison “appropriate to their acquired/affirmed gender”.

Surely there is an Urgent Question of both Parliament and the Women's & Equalities Commitee to consider that there is (and was) a "clear risk of harm" to vulnerable female prisoners when male-born prisoners with convictions for rape are housed in a locked-environment in Female Estate as evidenced by the sexual assaults by White?

Does Penny Mordant agree that she & the Women's and Equalities Committee should re-consider the scope and findings of her predecessor Maria Miller's enquiries with a focus on the possible impact on women and girls?

I would first ask her to promise that males who have committed violent or sex crimes should not be allowed to change their gender or live 'as women' or be put into women's prisons. I think that transwomen should have separate facilities from women who have been raped or assaulted. And separate showers, changing rooms & toilets. Also, that women and girls going to a doctor or counsellor should be informed if the doc etc is trans. I think changed birth certificates should show that the person is trans and that people with penises should not be able to have their birth certificate changed. Women & children are vulnerable, we need to feel safe when we are undressed and when we are sleeping.
