It's a private prosecution by an activist who wasn't at the talk but watched it online. CPS declined to take the complaint further but this individual decided to take out a private action.

Really sorry Linda Bellos is being put through this.

It's clearly ridiculous though. I don't think it will do the TRA cause any good at all.

I presume you have to fund these private prosecutions yourself so yet again someone (or some group of people) with considerable financial wealth is trying to use it silence dissent - either by prosecuting feminists or, in the cases of Bradley and the Challenors, covering up sexual offences. (I presume that is what the Challenor injunctions were about - unless there are even more skeletons in that closet).

I think the main issue is that this is a financial attack on Linda Bellos. If the CPS threw it out, the case is weak (though is the bar Lowe here?) so the main aim is to inflict a financial attack (on Linda, on speech, on this idea of any woman speaking publicly).

So, how is she funding her defence?

(And, of course, who is funding the person bringing the case?)

The timing couldn't be worse for that TRA, given journalists and MPs now seem to be coming out of the woodwork. Particularly over free speech.

According to that article you have to say the offending piece within earshot of the person.

Very unlikely to succeed - it’s an incredibly odd move by an extremely unpleasant TRA. Rather likely to blow up in their faces I’d have thought? Will appear to just about anyone as vexatious and - quite frankly - a touch unhinged.

She said at the time of the police interview that this was racism, and I agree.

Linda could sue for defamation with that headline.

Anyone who has watched the full video can see that she was saying she would react if someone tried to attack her.
If this action is being taken on the basis of the edited video instead then its pretty easy to argue that it is the person who published the edited video or spread the falsehood that Linda was threatening every trans person rather than Linda herself who said no such thing

I’d like to know how to support Linda in this. I’m quite happy to part with the few pounds I have spare to help her fight this stupidness.
