This is an article written about an altercation at the trans inclusive San Francisco Dyke March when a few women who were protesting about transgernderism were threatened and attacked by the crowd.

DARVO in action folks...

Battleax · 26/06/2018 11:23

Fuck that for a notion.

DJLippy · 26/06/2018 11:25

As far as neutral descriptors go incel is pretty irrelevant.

What does DARVO mean?

AngryAttackKittens · 26/06/2018 11:28

Yep. The group of people who invented the term "cotton ceiling" accusing other people of being angry incels, that deserves some kind of award for irony.

arranfan · 26/06/2018 11:28

DARVO: Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender.

DJLippy · 26/06/2018 11:28

DARVO refers to a reaction perpetrators of wrong doing, particularly sexual offenders, may display in response to being held accountable for their behavior. DARVO stands for "Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender."

Since when is dyke a political identity that stands for trans* love?

These people take a terra nullus approach to language- it’s like they think words are just sitting there, empty of meaning and available for them to define in whatever way they like.

UpstartCrow · 26/06/2018 11:43

Since recent posts I've started to pay more attention to usernames, and that could be construed as a pretty nasty one.

Article about this:
'Lesbians Attacked By Trans Activists At San Francisco Dyke March'

"Reports are coming in of a series of violent attacks on lesbian marchers at yesterday’s San Francisco Dyke March 2018. The women were targeted on the basis of their signs which referenced lesbianism as a female-specific orientation. These signs offended the heterosexual transgender marchers who believe males should have the prerogative to “identify as” lesbian and that women who reject this premise should be targeted for violence...." (continues with testimonies from the women who were attacked)

HowWasLastnight · 26/06/2018 11:45

They think TE**s want to have lots of sex and that these biological women are sexually frustrated, that they are enraged at biological males who have a transition of gender, for refusing biological women sexual relations? Hmm

AngryAttackKittens · 26/06/2018 11:47

At the risk of getting a strike, that idea makes my vagina as dry as the Sahara. In fact I think it just attempted to padlock itself.

Also if I did have sex with a person such as Kitty Stryker* that wouldn't make either of us "dykes".

*And I will now go watch videos of kittens and puppies frolicking in an attempt to cleanse my brain of that mental image.

I fully snorted at my computer, very unladylike (not that that worries me). Thanks for the laugh.

I agree. It is an aspect of this ideology which irritates me beyond belief.

What does DARVO mean?
For examples, see almost any piece of anti-trans propaganda, in which trans people are portrayed as "attacking" the people who are campaigning to have our rights and protections removed, and of being 'abusive" when we call out the lies and abuse that are hurled at us.

Words, do they mean things? I remember when we first started reading Chaucer at school and it took a while before it started to flow easily and make sense. At one point I thought the same thing might eventually happen with pomo newspeak, but nope, because every time you check the words have a new, different meaning than they did a few months ago.

(extract)
"First of all, ‘Humpty Dumptyism’ is a reference to Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass and his critique of semantics and pragmatics.

When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’
’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

There is no shared understanding when words have no codified and contextual meaning. And if humans cannot share understanding, we are in dire straits and heading to dark places. Perhaps we are already there..." continues

Trans activism is all about appropriation. Appropriation of women's spaces, appropriation of words, appropriation of women's sexuality, appropriation of women's sports, appropriation of women's health, appropriation of women's natural bodily functions.

You name it - anything women, have trans activists want.

What a bunch of saddos.

R0wantrees · 26/06/2018 12:17

From the thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3241837-Why-has-the-trans-lobby-been-so-successful?

Some time ago, as part of my degree, we studied linguistic techniques used in propaganda so I was curious to reacquaint myself.

The following is from a very basic guide but, I think interesting:

Propaganda Techniques

people.howstuffworks.com/propaganda1.htm

"A commonly used technique is name-calling , which takes its cue from playground behavior. Often, this technique is utilized to divert attention when someone is trying to avoid answering a question or providing hard facts.

The bandwagon technique encourages the viewer or listener to join the crowd by aligning with the most popular, successful side of an issue

Glittering generalities are very common in political propaganda. Glittering generalities combine words that have positive connotations with a concept that is particularly beloved.

Card stacking is the presentation of only the details, statistics and other information that impacts public opinion positively. In other words, the bad stuff is left out entirely.

The plain folks technique is designed to get ordinary citizens to identify with a political candidate or other figure that they otherwise may have nothing in common with.

Propaganda based on fear is designed to scare people into choosing sides.

The transfer technique is more subliminal (operating on a subconscious rather than conscious level) than the other techniques we've discussed. Using this method, a group or person attempts to align themselves with a beloved symbol in an effort to transfer the status of the symbol to the cause they represent.

Many other propaganda methods exist, but they subsist on the same basic principles as the ones listed above: Manipulate the message to portray an issue or person in the most favorable light possible, and when necessary, make the opposing side look shabby in comparison.

Many people believe that propaganda does more harm than its proponents would admit to. Some go so far as to claim that propaganda is a bedfellow of censorship because they both serve as tools for repression, confusion and suppression of information"

Of course it is important to acknowledge that the use of these makes no comment on the worthiness of the cause. They have been employed to great effect by many admirable people

Oscarino · 26/06/2018 12:19

I think it is dishonest. How can you have any sort of dialogue with people who use words that have established meanings but are using them to mean something else - private definitions that they refuse to share.

If they made up their own words it would be one thing, jargon can be irritating but at least you know what you’re dealing with. It’s the taking of common words with common meanings and suddenly declaring that everything is complicated and beyond the understanding of any but a super woke in crowd.

OldCrone · 26/06/2018 12:22

Damnthat
What rights do you currently have that you believe people are trying to remove?

R0wantrees · 26/06/2018 12:24

From the thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3261705-Turns-out-Hampstead-swimming-ponds-are-single-SEX-after-all

I believe the majority of people have a shared expectation of what a single-sex space or service is.

If this definition is to be changed then all stakeholders in society should be aware of this and able to consider it and contribute.

This can't be restricted to people from certain age group/ identity / educational experience / user of certain social media sites/ members of political groups etc.

To do so is to disenfranchise others.
