Stonewall Scotland’s response to the GRA consultation

Hope the link is clicky. If you scroll down, you can see the Executive Summary (I read this, it is about 10 pages) and the full response (haven’t looked yet).

It is everything we feared. It is awful. All the things GC people will have answered hell no to, they are welcoming with open arms.

16/17 year olds self IDing.
Non-binary being a legally recognised gender (doesn’t that mean access to everything?).
No limit on number of times you can change gender.
No ‘until death’ clause.
Not having partner becoming trans as grounds for divorce.
Self ID in Scotland being valid elsewhere and vice versa.
Etc.

I imagine if this is the response to the Scottish consultation, it will be the same to the UK one.

Read it and then let’s share ideas/thoughts/plans! I know lots of the groups are upping strategies atm which is ace.

You are forced to remain married and change your genderal (sexual) orientation? Hmm

Poor children.

Stonewall must be so happy.Hmm

Theinconstantgardener · 24/06/2018 17:07

Offs this is awful. How did this happen? No wonder all the emails iv written have recieved a lukewarm or no response.

Theinconstantgardener · 24/06/2018 17:09

What I mean is they obviously have a massive influence in Scotland

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/06/2018 17:10

Alongside LGBT youth Scotland and Scottish trans alliance

Fflamingo · 24/06/2018 17:13

No it’s more the Scottish gov being seen as right on and inclusive, they are dickheads. I thought I’d end my days in scotlandbut the gov is making me rethink and it will prob be England where DCs work.0

MsBeaujangles · 24/06/2018 17:18

I actually think that the following could be a good thing:
Non-binary being a legally recognised gender (doesn’t that mean access to everything?).
No limit on number of times you can change gender
No ‘until death’ clause
Not having partner becoming trans as grounds for divorce

This undermines the whole 'real woman' and 'wrong body' argument and the non-binary separates sex from gender.

If a GRC means anyone can be anything at any point in time, this makes allowing people in to single sex provision according to a GRC very flaky and will make the EA exceptions easier to uphold and distinctions between sex and gender to be clearer

Snappity · 24/06/2018 17:18

I was disappointed they aren't seeking to extend the time limit in s22

MacaroonMama · 24/06/2018 17:24

MsBeaujangles would it not be the reverse? If sex and gender are conflated by this (which it seems they are, suggesting that non-binary is someone’s sex/gender), then they could be entitled to both by just saying today I feel x? Or - oh wait, do you mean as a third choice, they are opting out of single sex? Sorry - got it - yes I suppose so.

This is Stonewall 's response. The Scottish Government hasn't acted on the consultation responses. The Law Society and the Faculty of Advocates both want gender reassignment kept as an automatic ground for divorce.

MacaroonMama · 24/06/2018 17:27

Yes Lass glad they gaven’t acted yet! I thought worth linking as Stonewall seem to be such heavyweights in terms of influencing thinking and policy and practice on this. Great to hear there is opposition.

Wakame · 24/06/2018 17:28

A very sensible response. Seems all the scaremongering about trans people isn't working.

HerFemaleness · 24/06/2018 17:31

No limit on number of times you can change gender

Trans activists ''your gender is fixed from birth, it can't be changed''.

Also Trans activists ''we don't want any limits on the number of times you can change gender''.

Hmm
Imnobody4 · 24/06/2018 17:32

MacaroonMama
Isn't this just Stonewalls crib sheet for filling in consultation, not the actual results?
It'll be interesting to see if their stance changes with the new consultation.

BOO32 · 24/06/2018 17:36

Surely that is what we would expect from Stonewall? What will be interesting will be the summary of all the responses received.

MacaroonMama · 24/06/2018 17:40

Imnobody4 I think it is the post-consultation summary as it mentions somewhere that it is closed.

Their full detailed position here (40 pages):

No limit on number of times you can change gender

Bearing in mind gender has now been taken to mean sex that's ridiculous!!

Not having partner becoming trans as grounds for divorce.

And this!!! This!!! Of course its grounds for a divorce you utter fuckwits

Waddlelikeapenguin · 24/06/2018 18:08

Of course its grounds for a divorce you utter fuckwits Grin
rufus can we just send you in to tell them off? Please?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 24/06/2018 18:14

Is it still cold in Scotland

If its cold im not going...

Lifesavingorange · 24/06/2018 18:26

Stonewall’s existence depends on their fuelling the trans debate. If they don’t perpetuate the ‘trans people are the most oppressed bullied people ever’ narrative then the funding will dry up - the gay rights battle has been largely achieved. Trans is their cash cow so they will keep the conflict going as long as they can while keeping up the appearance of being the only ones who can solve this new ‘civil rights’ conflict. They are a disgrace, especially their CEO.

MsBeaujangles · 24/06/2018 18:31

There are significant contradictions within the ‘trans community’ with some sub groups undermining others.

Some trans people think the idea of gender being a spectrum is ridiculous. This view undermines the arguments that gender is inextricably linked to sex.

Many trans people argue that gender and sex have nothing to do with each other and their gender exists without links to sex. This argument puts Ideas of MtF and FtM more in the mental health category and everything else outside it.

This view is far more compatible with the GC view that sex and gender are completely different.

If gender identity changes over time and isn’t tied in with being ‘male’ or ‘female’ this helps GC females. It also allows for less gender conformity etc.

DietCoke87 · 24/06/2018 18:40

Not having partner becoming trans as grounds for divorce.

Just wait to see how quickly that statement would be repealed if lots of 40+ year-old-females started becoming trans men.
