Hope the link is clicky. If you scroll down, you can see the Executive Summary (I read this, it is about 10 pages) and the full response (haven’t looked yet).

It is everything we feared. It is awful. All the things GC people will have answered hell no to, they are welcoming with open arms.

16/17 year olds self IDing.
Non-binary being a legally recognised gender (doesn’t that mean access to everything?).
No limit on number of times you can change gender.
No ‘until death’ clause.
Not having partner becoming trans as grounds for divorce.
Self ID in Scotland being valid elsewhere and vice versa.
Etc.

I imagine if this is the response to the Scottish consultation, it will be the same to the UK one.

Read it and then let’s share ideas/thoughts/plans! I know lots of the groups are upping strategies atm which is ace.

Really hope everyone on the thread has all their toes...otherwise I'm going to feel awful

spontaneousgiventime · 24/06/2018 19:16

This is a piss take of the highest order against women. If these changes go ahead in their entirety then we better start making room in the rest of the UK for the sensible people relocating. Hell, I'd put some up here until they got on their feet. Scottish woman will no longer exist!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 24/06/2018 19:33

The last time I heard of an organization being so against women's right to instigate divorce, it was Ian Paisley's Free Presbyterian Church. It expelled my friend after she was beaten with a crutch by her husband and ended up in the ICU. She initiated divorce proceedings....she was expelled, he wasn't.

Stonewall, you have nice bedfellows. Fucking demons.

Mossandclover · 24/06/2018 19:41

Remember the SNP Scottish Government is kept in place by the greens and we know how woke they are.

Lifesavingorange · 24/06/2018 20:48

The Scottish Greens are led by Patrick Harvie who is anti-women and compared a GC mumsnetter who wrote to him about the GRA to an Islamophobe.

FermatsTheorem · 24/06/2018 21:02

The whole submission is bonkers, but the divorce bit in particular really exposes exactly what they think of women. Men's property, no more, no less.

Anyone who enters into a marriage goes into it with a certain set of belief about and expectations of their partner. If you thought your partner was pretty sensible with money and they turned out to be a feckless waster, it would be reasonable to divorce them. If you thought they wanted children, then they turned out not to, it would be reasonable to divorce them. If you thought they were politically middle of the road and they gradually morphed into someone who liked Britain First posts on facebook, it would be reasonable to divorce them.

If you married them thinking they were a man, and knowing you were a heterosexual woman, and they suddenly announced that they believed they were a woman, then that's about as a big a "you aren't the person I thought you were when I married you" moment as anyone in their right mind can conceive of.

To argue that women should be stripped of the right to divorce in those circumstances is beyond cruel and abusive, it's insane.

No-one should be coerced and forced into staying in a marriage which isn't working for them. And anyone who tries to force them to stay in such a marriage is themselves an abuser.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 24/06/2018 21:08

Abso-fucking-lutely

Anyone who thinks this is a good idea is a cunt of the first order

Waddlelikeapenguin · 24/06/2018 21:51

FermatsTheorem yes!

I agree, but then I don't need people around me to validate my claims about who I am which is what this clause is all about. If women are allowed to divorce the person they have been married to on those grounds, it would tend to invalidate the "born this way" concept that they demand as reality.

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/06/2018 21:15

To be clear there are 2 grounds for divorce in Scotland - unreasonable behaviour or the grant of an interim gender reassignment certificate.

What constitutes unreasonable behaviour will depend on individual facts and circumstances.

Aside from that couples may divorce without alleging or proving any grounds if they have been separated for 1 year and they agree to divorce.

If one party doesn't consent the other party can get a divorce after 2 years separation without alleging or proving any grounds.

NotMeOhNo · 25/06/2018 21:52

It's basically saying to a wife, "I will force you to stay married to me you bigot".
