SupermatchGame · 15/06/2018 22:53

It will simply be tomorrow’s fish and chip paper

Oh there's a thought. Imagine if we woke up to find this splashed 💦 all over tomorrow's tabloids. That would be interesting.

TerfsUp · 15/06/2018 22:53

My reaction to the news.

Is this for real. or a Bit Fishy,
HornyTortoise · 15/06/2018 22:54

I cannot watch the actual video at the moment, but given this is in Prick News, I expect what was actually said to be distorted beyond belief. Kind of like when it was claimed that one of the speakers had said all trans people were parasites, which was untrue also.

I have actually heard of this transfish stuff before though, on another site, months and months ago. Apparently (though this may have been clickbaity also) its because of how carelessly some dispose of medications, mainly the pill. And its 'changing the sex' of some fish. Or something. Vaguely remember it. Not sure if its possible or not though.

GeordieTerf · 15/06/2018 22:54

I was at the meeting. This was indeed said by one of the audience members who was discussing how transgenderism relates to big pharma and the environment in general.

I'm not a scientist, do I can't comment on whether is true or not. However, I do believe that many fish are capable of literally changing sex.

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 22:54

Women- prawn people also take those hormones

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/06/2018 22:55

Going by what it says in Pink News, she WAS talking about all artificial hormones not just trans people's.

Popchyk · 15/06/2018 22:56

Does Nicola Sturgeon know about this?

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 22:56

We need to scale-back the fish puns now

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 22:58

Nicola Sturgeon GrinGrinGrin

SupermatchGame · 15/06/2018 22:59

Only if Alex Salmond has let her know.

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 23:01

You’re prawn a woman and you die a woman, that’s final

Jessrabbitit · 15/06/2018 23:04

I suggest you watch the video I did after seeing it in pink news, there’s nothing fishy going on other than what was said which again was disappointing and has let things down !!!!

QueenOfQuacks · 15/06/2018 23:07

ROFL at the fish puns. Too tired and pissed to think of any of my own!

I actually know who Elizabeth is and I think her point is sort of half valid. I refuse to use hormonal contraception for this very reason. I personally would not try to pin the blame for oestrogen contamination of water onto trans people (their numbers are surely tiny against the numbers of women taking the pill!) but it's definitely a Real Thing and there is shockingly little research into it. I think it's probably assumed to be a small price to pay for the sexual freedom it brings but I suspect the sexual freedom it brings to men is more of a consideration if that makes sense. If it was only women who benefitted from hormonal contraception I bet there'd be a fuss about water contamination.

Pratchet · 15/06/2018 23:10

I saw this too. It's always been blamed on the pill or something hasn't it?

AngryAttackKittens · 15/06/2018 23:11

I've bream people banging on about this for at least 10 years, it's nothing new.

Pratchet · 15/06/2018 23:16

Cod science

PencilsInSpace · 15/06/2018 23:24

The woman who said this has been an environmental and feminist campaigner for decades.

She's probably right, and hormonal contraceptives can be added to the list too. I have no doubt she has also had things to say about plastics producing oestrogen-like substances as they break down and the effects of these in our water supply, rivers and oceans.

We've known about this for decades, it's hardly a new thing.

It doesn't seem to make much difference to the fish whether a hormone is artificial or bio-identical (or a by-product of the breakdown of some plastics). If an artificially delivered hormone is not all absorbed you will piss it out and it will end up in the water, poisoning fish.

Elizabeth's point was that the huge increase in male trans people taking oestrogen simply adds to an already existing problem.

I wonder if any research has been done on the effects of puberty blockers on fish health.

Transactivists really need to learn it's not all about them.

TheLastMermaid · 15/06/2018 23:33

I think we're all getting a bit distracted from the real fish-shoes by this thread. It's no more than a red herring.

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 23:34

Pratchet - yes Inthink they did use to place it on the pil(chard)

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 23:34

*Blame

MsBeee · 15/06/2018 23:38

Well I’m feeling crabby after reading all this.

Well, I doubt they are bio identical ?? I don’t know ??
It’s true. There are huge amounts of pharmaceuticals in the water that do stay in the tap water.

Synthetic estrogens are a serious problem as they can cause cancer and disrupt our own hormones.

Avoid all plastics and cling film when possible. I got rid of as much plastic in my kitchen as I could and have a very good water filter.

Melamin · 15/06/2018 23:40

It is not just the oestrogen-like substances from plastics, it is the plastic itself. Mussels are full of small plastic particles. There are also the fibres from microfibers that get washed out of washing machines and find there way into the sea. And polyester.

There has always been a lot of focus on oestrogens, but the study upthread refers to many medicines - antibiotics, ad, painkillers, antihistamines.

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 23:51

I feel like a fish out of water I on this thread so I'm ducking out...

MsBeee · 15/06/2018 23:53
