Here

Momentum hate women, obviously. I quite like DA. Interestingly there's a slight effort to detach and distance down at the bottom of the article, though no criticism of ATH.

That article makes no sense. I mean that from the point of view of Diane Abbott, not the Mail. How did she not know?

The Shadow Home Secretary spoke at a meeting last month, organised by Labour's hard-Left faction Momentum, in aid of Action for Trans Health (ATH)

A spokeswoman for Ms Abbott said the MP had 'no information that this event is either linked with or intended to raise money for Action for Trans Health'

She added that there was no indication anyone from ATH would be present at the meeting and therefore that 'if any such fundraising took place, Ms Abbott was not aware of it'.

ScrumpyBetty · 10/06/2018 06:33

It's good to see Stephanie Davies- Arai From Trangender Trend being quoted in the article. I'm glad they are getting some publicity now.

LassWiADelicateAir · 10/06/2018 06:35

This is the meeting as described by Momentum Hackney. It specifically refers to Action for Transhealth being involved and fund raising.

Thanks Lass. Good link.

We were delighted (and relieved) that our meeting was not disrupted by those people who are determined to have a “debate” about trans people’s right to exist

This is bizarre. When has this ever happened? It's the other way round. Likewise the extremely odd reference criticising sterilisation, when ATH advocates ... sterilising kids with drugs and hormones.

Yes, from screenshots, how did DA not know.

Absolutely brilliant that little meetings and lies like this are now being exposed in the mainstream press.

Wasn't Action for Trans health part of the consultation process with Maria Miller?

It is really important that what may be a cross party issue, doesn't get solely focussed on Labour, especially one female MP.

Also which other organisations or public figures endorse / work closely with Action for TRans health?

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 07:31

Yes it was, Rowan. I only just read your DM btw.

It's very good that ATH, once mainstream enough to have their evidence prioritised as more important than women's testimony, is now seen as extremist.

Rose of Dawn discussed Action for TRans Health in her video 'What does coopting the trans movement look like?'

Worth watching

Important to focus then on Action for Trans health's influence?

I'm sure they will work closely with some of the other TRA organisations?

Probably endorsed?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 10/06/2018 08:24

Diane Abbott MP laid out the case for the Labour Party being so vociferous in its defence of trans rights, and why we need unity across the labour movement against all forms of reaction.

Diane Abbott is Corbyn's dupe

R0wantrees · 10/06/2018 08:28

Its cross party:

(extract)
"The other column that Doughty was so interested in also concerned children. In particular, he was struck by the Times’ headline using the phrase “trans lobby”. This, for reference, was on a column that argued that a number of changes in policy and convention are being made at the urging of groups advocating things that they say would benefit transgender people which, the columnist suggested, were not in the best interests of children. “You will understand why that is a particular concern, given the previous use of “gay lobby”, “Jewish lobby” and all of those sorts of things,” Doughty said. “Do you think the use of the phrase “trans lobby” is an appropriate one?”

As it happens, Dr Carmichael in her lecture said some things that seem relevant here:

“Gender has become amazingly topical and we have to be really careful not to assume that anyone is exploring or questioning their gender is going to want to change their bodies in line with that. The extremes on either side are not helpful. We need to look at the grey areas in between. To do that we need to be able to talk and discuss these issues. All too often stakeholders become lobby groups.”

She did not name any stakeholder. But her words might be relevant to a charity called Mermaids. Mermaids is a charity that describes itself as “a support group for children and young people with gender dysphoria and their families”. Its CEO, Susie Green describes herself as “parent to a daughter who was born male.” Mermaids is a relatively small charity (it had income of £127,000 in the year to March 2017) with a big reach. It has prominent backers and its advice and recommendations have been absorbed and adopted by many public bodies."

I'm no fan of ATH but isn't this just the Daily Mail having a go at Diane Abbott?

MrsWooster · 10/06/2018 08:45

dr I'm no fan of the DM but if mainstream attention is being drawn to the excesses of transactivism then perhaps it is necessary collateral damage..? I imagine that DA is fairly teflon to attacks from the Mail by now and certainly has few supporters to lose in the readership

LangCleg · 10/06/2018 08:56

I expect so. But then, Diane should know better than to gift them such an own goal by now. And if Diane wants to go and talk at meetings raising money for ATH, she can fuck right off to the far side of fuck. Sorry, Diane.

AncientLights · 10/06/2018 09:29

Diane Abbott is shockingly naive after 30+ years in parliament. Does she have advisors who steer her towards this stuff and, if so, it's high time she pondered their motivation.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 09:31

I totally think it's the DM having a go at Diane Abbott, who I think is a very decent person. I think it's really interesting that the weapon for having a go, is a transactivist group that was previously persona grata at a women's committee inquiry. I don't think ATH can ever have that sort of acceptance again.

Thanks for posting.

Madigan also spoke at the meeting. Does LM support the aims of ATH ?

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 09:38

I guess ... must do?

OP posts:
Pratchet · 10/06/2018 09:39

Good point. It looks bad if he does.

OP posts:
drradfem · 10/06/2018 09:39

Of course he does!

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 09:46

How can anyone? How can Momentum?

OP posts:
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/06/2018 10:08

And interesting that her response was to deny she knew rather than try to defend ATH.
It's almost as if the reasonable people are managing to get hold of the conversation a bit.
