Feminism chat under attack

I'm seeing a lot of threads being started and posts on threads that are subtle and not so subtle attempts to shut the topic down or make it unusable.

To put this into context, it's happening and has happened before. Those of us who voted Leave saw this in the EU boards now there has been an almost total shut down of the Leave voice because of an aggressive and determined close down of speech. Those of us worried about self I'd are being slowly shutdown too. I don't care if you voted Leave or Remain I'm just using this to highlight that this happens we need to not sleepwalk.into it again.

I've seen the #weseeyou and it seems a great response (fairly sure some of the responses to these type of threads are planted too). I know you can't ban posters from engaging and obviously I wouldn't want to. But feeding the trolls doesn't help.

If anything the women here are hoping that the law and related guidelines will be adjusted in such a way as to avoid either themselves or the women and girls in their lives becoming victims. Preferably without lots of victims having to happen first.

BobbiBabbler · 05/06/2018 12:42

When I agreed with the previous poster about victims I meant the posters on this forum who are determined to believe that any slightly dissenting voice is out to get them. Therefore they'll shut down what could have been an interesting debate because they think that everyone who disagrees with them is automatically a man, a TRA or a handmaiden and therefore believe they're being "picked on". Undoubtedly there have been some posts of that ilk but that doesn't mean that anyone who brings the opposite view point is automatically out to get you.

Since this is the Feminism, formerly women's rights, chat I think it unlikely that the women here want to have an interesting debate on whether or not women have too many rights.

BobbiBabbler · 06/06/2018 08:37

@thebewilderness

Why so defensive? I didn't speculate at all on the content of the debate. The one i had in mind was one about trans youngsters feeling better about themselves after transition. Rather than take the opportunity for a debate about the data that was presented a lot of people just repeated messages telling others not to engage. It seems like a lot of the posters here only want a discussion as long as it is about a subject they agree with and from the angle they want to engage with. Is that what feminism is about these days?

Pratchet · 06/06/2018 08:42

It must have been sarcasm. Not well delivered.

You mean this thread? Currently with 347 posts. With lots of different views and discussion of the data. A few posters didn't want to engage and said so. They have the right to do that.

therealposieparker · 06/06/2018 14:41

Thanks OP....

This thread certainly draws in the posters we should all actively avoid.

Eugenics, because feminists endorse children being medically sterilised, with some even being taken abroad to be castarted at the age of 16.

Oh no, hang on, that isnt feminists is it?

Its trans activists that are advocating sterilising children.

LangCleg · 06/06/2018 16:28

You mean the ones with eugenic tendencies?

With narcissistic, abusive political movements, accusations are always admissions.

Pray tell me: who is sterilising the children?

At this time you can find at least three threads on the subject of studies claiming to prove how beneficial transitioning is. None of the studies do actually prove the assertion of the OPs, but they are thoroughly discussed, including the one you are referring to.

There is an effort currently under way by the He-Man Woman Haters Club to take over FWR with dozens of goady threads on the only two things asshats are interested in. Harassing women and transitioning away the Gays & Lesbians.
Had you been paying attention for more than five minutes you would know exactly why some of us are "so defensive" as you put it. Fed up is a more accurate description of the attitude you disapprove of, BobbiBabbler.

3rd rule of misogyny: Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish.

TacoLover · 06/06/2018 18:32

It's obvious that some posters are just set up to troll and aren't genuine. But a dissenting opinion doesn't equal TRA and a new account doesn't require trollhunting. Why don't you just counter their opinion with your better argument instead of accusing them of something you have no proof of?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 06/06/2018 18:37

Standard tactics to piss people off, get twitter bait and derail any discussion. Also to lure people into some daft thread and distract posters from any real issues.

They are usually identifiable quite early on so the threads tend to end up as recipe threads or about animals.
