Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Maybe it's me?

Maybe it's me - in many of the recent posts I sense, see and smell a set up - I see a wolf dressed as Grandma.

An OP who I don't recognise posts a question used to enable concern trolling and sealioning. Comments suddenly appear from newish unfamiliar accounts to challenge the inch given and demand that we conform to their inclusive demands which require us women giving up a pound of flesh. The thread appears to generate goady responses and maybe Twitter clickbait

Oh if I could bag all that concern and turn it into gold, I'd be a rich woman

I don't want to talk about them and their tactics - that's boring.

I want to talk feminism. For example -

Why are feminists expected to pander to anyone else's demands? Why can't feminists say no without sanction? What's so wrong with feminists being self centred and looking after women's needs? After all men do it all the tine. Why do social media platforms repeatedly demonstrate they are part of the problem and not of the solution? Why do they ignore 51% and why don't we withhold our presence from Twitter etc. Why does this keep happening and what other measures can we take?

Just checking:)))

Oh come off it. What you wrote was weird!

Picassospaintbrush · 03/06/2018 17:20

Yes I bloody wish I had a direct line to God to oppress some random poster on MN

Your insistence I can't listen to a speaker who has offended your god feelings because you can't listen too, is you using your god feelings to attempt to control what I can and can't listen to. I found that oppressive.

Yours sincerely, some random poster.

flashnazia · 03/06/2018 17:28

Right. This is getting weird.

Picassospaintbrush · 03/06/2018 17:42

Why is that weird flashnazi. Is oppression only one way? I have got the impression from recent diversity training that it may be?

The less oppressed stand forward and the more oppressed stand back. They literally make people do that in the training. And then anything people at the front do is controlled by people at the back? Their bias has to become my bias?

Generally curious as it's not a bad tool used well, but if it is reverse exclusion as above, surely that's not the intention?

TacoLover · 03/06/2018 17:45

picassospaintbrush where have I said you can't listen? Literally nowhere have i said you cannot attend anything and I haven't even suggested that people be taken off the panel. I offered a viewpoint as to why I personally wasn't attending. Please tell me what I said to stop you doing something or oppress you?

Picassospaintbrush · 03/06/2018 17:45

Sorry, that is just an unfortunate typo flashnazia.

Picassospaintbrush · 03/06/2018 17:51

Was I mixing you up with someone else? If that was not you I apologise. It was a very fast conversation with many voices, many people joined in saying this must not happen as the PoC on the board are excluded. If that was not you I apologise.

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 03/06/2018 17:59

Flash What I find wierd is people who claim wearing a hat or other head covering plugs them into god almighty. If someone comes on a secular site and announces such things they deserve a bit of gentle ragging. I do not think I was harsh. I saw her smiling in my mind. I sent her a jolly video.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 03/06/2018 18:02

This is such a weird conversation if you haven't really read the pp thing. Honestly.

I do think a bit of sunshine would help. And maybe the end of half term.

TacoLover · 03/06/2018 18:05

I agree. I also apologise if I have come across aggressive to anyone, I have been very hangry. At least I have my mixed grill to look forward to in 3 hoursGrin

Picassospaintbrush · 03/06/2018 18:13

Hangry. Yes, a nightmare. I would be skinny if not for the hangry.

TacoLover · 03/06/2018 18:19

Maybe I should start a support group for my Muslim sisters where we can rant about how we fast for 18 hours and still gain weightGrin

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 03/06/2018 18:31

TacoLover
Cake you can have it laterGrin.

thebewilderness · 03/06/2018 18:47

Trying to catch up.
Sarahconnor1 Sun 03-Jun-18 13:50:51 I wasn't going to get involved in this bun fight but the 'mentioning bombs' reference in an earlier post is talking about a post on the other thread where a poster raised the experience of being brought up in Northern Ireland, it was not in reference to anything else and that, I think, should be made clear.

Thank you for explaining the context. I was upset that it might be that same creeper from last week mansplaining which men the women should be afraid of and why.

I do wish that we were able to talk about the damaging effects of pile ons without being called names. To be fair I have participated in pile ons myself without realizing it sometimes from not reading the full thread and other times out of anger.
I still think they are damaging to the people who participate in them and the forum that allows them. I think this recent experience demonstrates that.

There isn't one? Are you sure? That sounds like fairly classic MN to me. Perhaps with a twist involving a parking diagram...

AngryAttackKittens · 03/06/2018 20:45

Totally OT but I think there's a reason for that, apparently grazing (eat small amounts often) is idea for losing weight and long times between eating slow to metabolism to a crawl.

Picassospaintbrush · 03/06/2018 21:10

I did lose weight fasting for 18 hours but restricting it to daylight is quite tough. I can do it if the 6 hours of eating are 2pm to 8pm.

Writersblock2 · 03/06/2018 22:37

Hangry! GrinI’m pretty convinced I’m a toddler at this point. If I’m all stressed and aggro my Dh looks at me and says “hungry, thirsty or tired?” Lol. Confused

womanformallyknownaswoman · 04/06/2018 06:01

I see that following my last comment discerning those who want to dominate by misrepresentation from those who want a genuine discussion - the derailing began.

One could be forgiven for thinking there is a war going on

Ah well back to the kitchen where the real action happens and things are cooked up

OP posts:
J4nice · 04/06/2018 14:37

@womanformallyknownaswoman what type of war?

Imnobody4 · 04/06/2018 17:36

flashnazia

I'm sure there was a thread on this but the past few days have reminded me of this:
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/may/08/how-white-women-use-strategic-tears-to-avoid-accountability
Flash - I think you posted this on the other thread so I'm going to give you my perspective on this. Firstly I have spent my entire life engaged in anti racism.l remember white only signs was involved in the anti apartheid movement. I delivered training on anti racism in childrens books to schools and have stood up to racist comments etc all my life.
However a few months ago I heard 3 little words- I was pissed off. But then I heard them another 2 times. 'White women's tears'. If someone, anyone is in tears my first reaction is to support, comfort and help not to sneer. Now, don't try and explain what is really meant; I know. This phrase is now loose in the wild for any mysoginist trying to occupy the high ground.
I say shame on anyone using this phrase just as I do to anyone using its close cousin 'playing the race card.

flashnazia · 04/06/2018 19:31

@Imnobody4
I can see how it can be taken that way but I felt it apt to post that after recent developments and putting someone on a pedalstal/getting the violins out for her even though they had tweeted some questionable things.
I don't really want to go there again tbf.

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 04/06/2018 20:44

This racist and goady Guardian link has been linked 2 times by Flashnazi in her posts on this post and the prevoius post which she keeps bringing back to pp that is taat. I understand you have a good motive. For that reason I have not reported your post to mnhq. There has been an entire thread about this post so it is also taat. I would respectfully request that you remove the link. Smile

thebewilderness · 04/06/2018 21:05

When your behavior and your words directly contradict one another it would be wise to reconsider your words.
