I didn't know Hewitt had said that about breast cancer but it doesn't surprise me.

It's very near the end of the video Joan. Because of their dysphoria apparently, or the fact that they'd had to work harder to get breasts.

And as I said on the other thread, particularly callous as it looked like there were mostly women there, some of whom may have suffered breast cancer.

JoanSummers · 31/05/2018 18:49

I didn't watch it because having seen Hewitt's opinions elsewhere I thought I had the jist of where they were coming from.

I will watch it now though as that is one more thing they have done that I will mark in my memory bank.

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 18:50

Hewitt is coming from a position of zero empathy or respect for women.

JoanSummers · 31/05/2018 18:52

And yes it is absolutely callous and that fits with what I've seen of Hewitt so far. How they are seen to have any sort of credibility I don't know.

There are a number of issues with some of what TH says (not because TH is trans) but because of what seems a limited appreciation of the context of oncology services and people diagnosed with cancer.

BiologyIsReal · 31/05/2018 19:48

That comment re breast cancer has to be one of the vilest things a trans woman has ever said.

So this person who was born male and has breasts only courtesy of medical treatment dares to suggest that breast cancer is worse for them than for a person whose breasts are natural and life-giving to the babies they may have fed or want to feed in the future?

How arrogant, entitled, callous and utterly lacking in imagination, compassion and humanity is it possible for a human to be?

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 20:09

Similar to point @MunchausensLovelyHorse and others made on the thread below about hearing the experiences of women who've hysteretomies appropriated by some TRA to 'prove' their similar status as women.

That a hysterectomy may have been done due to cancer diagnosis, BRCA status or similar medical neccesity seems of no concern. Nor the possible implications of this.

There's a striking absence of empathy.

Munch has #Don'tHijackMyHysterectomy ideas...

Boring cis women don't have dysphoria! Their feelings aren't really worth thinking about.

Very striking.

"I know We Need To Talk and find a middle way but that’s just not on offer is it? Any offers to talk aren’t about finding compromise, they’re about beating us into submission. And when we say no we’re threatened (have had threats of police action and civil action today) and shut down (am shadowbanned)." on recent thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3266050-ManFriday-article-in-the-Daily-Mail?pg=6

reports today that other women involved with #ManFriday also shadowbanned by new Twitter policy described:

"Twitter Announces More Shadow Banning For Those Having A ‘Negative Impact’"

"When Twitter’s software decides that a certain user is “detract[ing] from the conversation,” all of that user’s tweets will be hidden from search results and public conversations until their reputation improves. And they won’t know that they’re being muted in this way; Twitter says it’s still working on ways to notify people and help them get back into its good graces. In the meantime, their tweets will still be visible to their followers as usual and will still be able to be retweeted by others. They just won’t show up in conversational threads or search results by default…

You’ve heard of Twitter jail? Let’s call this Twitter purgatory.

All of this shadow banning will be handled by an algorithm, meaning who gets banned will depend mostly on the reactions of other people. "

This has been reported in the US

www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-23/trump-told-by-judge-not-to-block-users-from-his-twitter-feed

Obviously we have different laws in the UK but this could be the beginning of political figures and organisations having to be more accountable on social media.

It made me think of the Lib Dem LGBT group and the numerous twitter accounts that claim Labour Party affiliation yet operate massive block lists.
