Twitter 'bans women against trans ideology', say feminists

The BBC!

I think Aimee seems to have been quite influential within politics for longer that LM.

Pratchet · 31/05/2018 11:59

Aimee has friends on the Twitter mothership

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/05/2018 12:03

Delusions of grandeur too. Wants to be the next Madigan

Lily Madigan?

I'm not sure I'd class that as a particularly grandiose aim....

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 12:07

I am willing to continue have discussions with the BBC and others, on how we can achieve factual news articles that are fair and balanced, and don’t propagate harm against LGBTIQA+ people.

No I mean this is the grandiosity. Who cares what Aimee Challoner personally wants? Why should the BBC? Who is hanging on Aimee's pronouncements and awaiting their wise counsel as a dull 20 year old transactivist?

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 12:07

Aimee is part of Stonewall's Trans Advisory group:

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 12:08

Ok that makes sense. It still sounds a tad pompous.

Italiangreyhound · 31/05/2018 12:15

@JoanSummers

Almost not sure I ea t to Danbury I am so anti porn I feel I must as, 're "Why does the BBC never ask about Fae's activism for extreme porn?"

What is the history. And why is it ignored? Surely it is relevant if someone is presenting one view of themselves.

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 12:17

Formation of the group and background discussed here by Miranda Yardley:

That makes a lot more sense! Grin

I can't help wandering if this a narcissistic thing (in TIMs)? By becoming trans you transition from a rather boring bog standard bloke, to a stunning and brave transwoman who gets to be a spokesperson, and who's opinion seems to matter...

Destinysdaughter · 31/05/2018 15:33

According to Aimee's blog, they campaigned to stop TFL from using the words " Ladies and gentlemen" at the start of their passenger announcements. I really don't get how that is 'transphobic' ?

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 15:47

That was idiotic. As a male friend of mine amusingly quipped at the time, having any announcement at all is exclusionary to deaf people.

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 15:58

Seems to have an echo with TRA lobbying by some in Ireland at the moment for new legislation following the referendum to speak of preganant 'people' and to be aware that use of the word 'women' can feel exclusionary in the context of abortion rights.

Also echoed in a video of training for HCP by Tara Hewitt (Trans People and Cancer Session) who as part of the advice gave the example that guides and guidance, rather than being for two different sexes with additional information about identities, should be singular and therefore more inclusive for people who are transgender.

Pratchet · 31/05/2018 16:53

They'll win that battle in Ireland. It will be pregnant people.

JoanSummers · 31/05/2018 17:30

Is that anti-abortion anti-IVF ex-Tory candidate Tara Hewitt?

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 17:35

"Tara Hewitt, NHS equality and diversity advisor, doesn't believe in abortion or IVF but says it doesn't affect her job"

JoanSummers · 31/05/2018 17:48

Yes male bodied Tara Hewitt who will never need an abortion Hewittself, but feels adequately qualified to comment on whether women should be allowed to have them.

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 17:56

This will be Tara Hewitt who thinks that breast cancer is more devastating to trans identified males than women.

FlippinFumin · 31/05/2018 17:57

Boils my fucking piss how much influence they have already over women's issues. How arrogant is that mindset, and Tara already made me fume over the breast cancer bullshit.

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 17:57

Hewittself Grin I like it!

JoanSummers · 31/05/2018 18:04

I didn't know Hewitt had said that about breast cancer but it doesn't surprise me.

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 18:05

from the article TH: "There's no gender in the bible."

FlippinFumin · 31/05/2018 18:05

Joan, it is in the youtubey wotsit linked to above.

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 18:07

Sorry misquote, "She also claims the bible doesn’t focus on gender."

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 18:10

(extract)
"But, although she supports gay marriage and same-sex adoption, she doesn’t believe in IVF.

“None of my views are based on sexual orientation I support love.

“Millions of people share my view but, because they aren’t trans, they aren’t targetted.

“It’s hard being right wing and trans, I get attacked from both sides.”

FlippinFumin · 31/05/2018 18:11

from the article TH: "There's no gender in the bible."

Lemme get this right, God created Adam, man, and from his rib created woman, Eve. But there is no gender in the bible?

OK, not right from the start then. Or all the way through, like Ruth, and Mary, and Mary Magdalen, and Delilah, Salome, Lot's wife.

Bloody hell, the bible has been used for years to quell, women, homosexuals and anyone who might want to make a fuss about how shitty their life is because of misogyny.
