I read this blog about the Leeds red light district from someone who lives there. It's so illuminating. This needs a wider audience - please share on social media. This is what decriminalisation looks like.

Are you just shouting out random words, or is there a point to your last post?

LangCleg · 27/05/2018 16:12

Make this person go away and stop devaluing a thread about an article of importance written by a woman who has seen this discussion and is contributing to the conversation. It's disgusting behaviour.

Celine - I am so sorry this thread is being vandalised in such a way. It's disrespectful and revolting.

Offred · 27/05/2018 16:12

They always skim over that obvious point... wonder why that is?!?!

Alternateview · 27/05/2018 16:20

My last post.

I have been accused of exploiting, devaluing and disrespecting women.

Up until my last couple of posts I had not accused anyone or attacked anyone who has been posting.

I am sincerely sorry if anyone thinks I have hijacked this thread to undermine the plight of sex workers. It really was not my intention.

I would like nothing more than for anyone suffering exploitation to be helped. But it seems I am not allowed to state a genuine opinion without being called names and generally insulted.

Apologies to the OP, who I know was only thinking in the interests of those being exploited.

HerFemaleness · 27/05/2018 16:21

Unfortunately it’s brocialists, dude bros, Lib fems, political parties, local authorities, police forces, NGOs, multinational charities... etc etc etc

Not seeing the distinction Wink

Fair point!

@Celinedayjardnz what can we do to help save our eyes?

Celinedayjardnz · 27/05/2018 17:17

My sisters, I have come home to find your posts and I can’t tell you what it means to me that you care and understand. I am just ignoring that man. He has no business here and I haven’t read anything he has to say. I will have heard it before. It is your voices that mean something, and for the first time in a long time, I feel like yes, there are people who care and we don’t have to live like this forever. Every night I sit at home and I’m safe, but I think about those women I see every day and I wonder what is happening to them. I don’t know what to do. As to what we can do, the only organisation that I am aware of who is trying to help those women get off the streets is called The Joanna Project. I don’t know anything about them, but I am posting their website here. I am pretty sure they are the only people who are doing anything to help the women get safe. Thank you all so much for commenting and thank you for understanding. I don’t feel so alone. And thank you for introducing me to Mumsnet! This place is COOL joannaproject.co.uk

Thanks for that link! I will try to set up a regular amount via DD.

Re save our eyes I googled around a bit earlier and saw that they had been standing a candidate? for local authority elections but there were smug stories about the independents not breaking the labour hegemony in this last election.

Is there anything we can do to help with this? I see they are collecting reports of problems associated with the ‘managed approach’ and I think this is an excellent idea due to the fact everyone in power keeps saying there are no problems. Have they done awareness raising with the press re what is being reported? Are there barriers to doing that if not?

Do they produce an annual report re the problems that have been reported?

Celinedayjardnz · 27/05/2018 17:56

I don’t know much about save our eyes, they put a leaflet through the door now and then, that’s all I know really. I don’t know if they are connected to the people who stood as independent candidates or whatever. So far, I have not been actively involved in any of this, I’ve just been watching it happen and not knowing what to do. I mean to find out. And I will let you know.

LangCleg · 27/05/2018 17:56

I will also donate.

Save our Beeston and Holbeck did reasonably well TBH.

You need to read this article about the Leeds red light district.
glsgow107 · 27/05/2018 18:11

I live next to there. I don't go out at night. You get approached by strangers asking for sex. And adding in the numerous stabbings, and more frequently, shootings. It's not safe.

glsgow107 · 27/05/2018 18:12

Oh, and I've lived in armley which is just as bad. Recently moved back after 4 years in Ilkley.

KittyPerry77 · 27/05/2018 18:14

What a shame the Save our Beeston vote was split between 3 candidates.

Offred · 27/05/2018 18:20

There were three positions on the council open I think due to the boundary changes.

Offred · 27/05/2018 18:22

I’ve just been spending more time reading... seems like Angela Gabriel (labour) is somewhat aware of the issues which may be why she got the most votes.

Offred · 27/05/2018 18:24

Well, she seems to be becoming a little bit more critical over time...

Bowlofbabelfish · 27/05/2018 18:29

Lesbians?

Ahhh... yes there it is. The Male rage. Takes on average six posts to bring it out.

I ask you, do you get so angry in real life? Who with? Your boss? Your partner if you have one? Anyone who disagrees? Are you one of those men who have to overtake and shout at people on the road?

Would it take six exchanges with a real life woman expressing an opinion to make you react like that in person?

Because if so, you have a self control issue. And an issue with women.

You can state your opinion. You did. We stated ours. So why are you then letting the mask slip? Do you expect women to defer to your opinion?

TerfAndSerf · 27/05/2018 20:06

Shared both links - the blog and Green Party councillor's comments.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 27/05/2018 20:10

Celine I just read your powerful blog. FUCK MEN!! I hate them!! And if anyone starts on me for saying that I will come back at them with one hundred stats and facts that will make their eyes water about their precious fucking men!!!

I am so angry about men - my dear friend was jogging on Thursday morning and was raped by some evil hateful man...she was just jogging!!!!! She has a daughter with Down's syndrome and is a fantastic woman and mother. Men are fucked up!
