I read this blog about the Leeds red light district from someone who lives there. It's so illuminating. This needs a wider audience - please share on social media. This is what decriminalisation looks like.

I'm from Leeds, and used to live just up the road in Beeston. I moved nearer Halifax a few years ago.
I had no idea it was so bad in Holbeck, and I had a few friends who lived there back in the day. Really interesting to hear peoples views coming from outside the area, I had no idea the police are so bad in comparison to other but then I grew up with it so I don't know any different.
Going back to read full thread now.

DJLippy · 21/06/2018 22:54

If it was happening to me then i would secretly publish vehicle registrations of all suspicious cars found circling the area and/or talking to prostitutes. I'd put it on my blog.

Yes mate!

"Shamelessly quiet"

I was actually thinking the same about some of those who were posting on the Lush thread. (regarding my recent threads about what happened on the night of the England match but they are conspicuous by their absence on this thread too.

SporadicSpartacus · 26/06/2018 09:47

And the delightful as ever UK Punting thread on the topic:

www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=83027.150

Going to work in Holbeck in normal summer clothes is decidedly uncomfortable. The residents’ group are doing great work documenting breaches. It’s just hard to understand how anyone thought this was a good idea in the first place. The ukpunting thread shows that, at least for this subsection of men, South Leeds is becoming a sex tourism destination.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 06/07/2018 09:58

Dammit, I can't find this blog anymore. The link says it's not there anymore. Does anyone know why it was removed or have a copy of it? I need it!

FermatsTheorem · 17/07/2018 12:08

Bloody hell, Floof, that's awful.

But "sex work is a job like any other." After all, who hasn't been deliberately run down by a client and left in hospital with a broken leg in the course of their day job.... Oh, hang on a moment.

Offred · 17/07/2018 12:22

This happened virtually on the doorstep of Ingram Road primary school, in a residential area that is not part of the ‘managed area’ which adds to the evidence that counters the ‘what’s the problem sex work stays in the industrial estate’ stuff.

LangCleg · 17/07/2018 12:27

Entirely predictable.

Flooffloof · 17/07/2018 14:18

Has anyone got a fabulous idea to get this stopped?
I been wracking my brain, but nothing comes to mind.

NameChanger22 · 17/07/2018 14:21

Placemarking.

Offred · 17/07/2018 14:21

Some good investigative journalism to expose what is going on in West Yorks generally IMO.

Not looking likely...

The Nordic Model

nordicmodelnow.org/what-is-the-nordic-model/

From the link:

'What we are campaigning for in the UK
Each country that has introduced the Nordic Model approach has implemented it a little differently. It has been most successful in Sweden where it was introduced as part of a raft of legislative measures to tackle male violence against women and girls and to address sex inequality.

We believe we must learn from the experience in other countries and introduce the Nordic Model as part of a raft of measures.'

QuarksandLeptons · 22/07/2018 22:02

That poor woman, almost murdered by a John. Instead of sanctioning the abuse of these poor desperate women, the state should be helping them rebuild their lives.

We should start a campaign to shut this horror show idea down. Women are not commodities to be bought and sold and abused! Alongside shutting it down there should be a scheme for women to get counselling, support and there should be real employment provided for them.

From memory there was a local politician who is trying to shut the red light district. We should support her.

QuarksandLeptons · 22/07/2018 22:03

And yes to the Nordic model. It’s the only civilised way to manage prostitution.

Article in today’s telegraph:

Tartle · 24/07/2018 07:37

It's a very good article bablefish perhaps it needs a new thread?

Bowlofbabelfish · 24/07/2018 07:52

Good point :) - have started on

QuarksandLeptons · 24/07/2018 08:58

It’s an outright failure. Shame on the male politicians Hilary Benn and Mark Dobson for their weasel words.
Women are human beings. We deserve hunan rights. Allowing a market system where a certain class of women can be bought and sold is fundamentally wrong. No tinkering around with regulation can solve it.

These quotes are good from the article

“It was a disaster from day one. Other criminals came into the area quick as a flash. Drug dealers, pimps, even traffickers that brought the women from Romania… the women were given carte blanche and it was like there was a total amnesty on any of the scumbags buying and selling the girls,” added the officer.

And this one

“Our argument is that it’s not appropriate to have girls bought and sold on our streets in 2018,” said Claire Bentley-Smith, a resident.
