They said "Mumsnet you left us no choice"

Further to the crisis mode idea - maybe it would be good to have some ex-mods to call upon when the going gets tough?

Or maybe train up some 'mum-terns- for the future.

Popchyk · 06/05/2018 23:34

Thanks Hebe.

Fairenuff · 06/05/2018 23:38

Hebe came in like the cavalry there. Perfect timing. No messing.

I'm really looking forward to the next Marvel movie with Captain Marvel (staring Brie Larson).

She's rumoured to be the most powerful of the Avengers.

Think of all the brilliant memes we are going to get from that one movie 😀

Tinycitrus · 07/05/2018 00:02

Tbh I think mumsnet does have to do something to let the talk boards ‘breathe’ for a bit.

I’ve been here 15 years - on and off - and I honestly think the chat on here is dire at the moment.

It’s either transgender hyperbole bollocks about how it’s erasing womankind and “ooooh look what some random idiot has said on Twitter..” or tedious nonsense like “why don’t people drive...?” “How do I wash my towels?”

I consider myself gender critical and agree there are issues that need to be discussed by women regarding the way gender has taken precedence over biological sex and the ramifications for biological women.

But after the last few weeks - I’m transgendered out TBH. Confused

If I was in charge of moderation on mumsnet I’d make it clear that this is not a democracy. It’s mumsnet’s chat and mumsnet decides what’s acceptable.

Mumsnet is not a human right, nor is it an emergency service nor is it the only way women as a class can organise politically.

Clear rules and robust moderation is required. Mumsnet decides the rules and stands by them. If users don’t like it they can fuck off.

And moderation via Twitter was just insanity.

hipsterfun · 07/05/2018 00:02

@spontaneousgiventime re your post at 23:02, I don’t think it’s considered ok to use that c word anymore.

spontaneousgiventime · 07/05/2018 00:06

hipsterfun Oops, apologies all. I will report my post. I have trouble keeping up with what's acceptable or not these days.

ReluctantCamper · 07/05/2018 00:07

Not sure I've seen people asking how to wash their towels in feminist chat Tinycitrus, so not really following you on that one.

ReluctantCamper · 07/05/2018 00:08

hang on, cretin is not OK now? dare I ask why not?

PermissionToSpeakSir · 07/05/2018 00:08

The fact that this site is mainly user generated content tinycitrus makes it a bit more delicate than that.

MN has to think of their tone, how it reflects their brand, along with keeping the quality high so people keep using the site or lurking. If they start saying 'my way or the high way' people will bugger off and it will be Netmums if they mis-judge it.

Greymisty · 07/05/2018 00:09

It's so polarised atm and black and white. I find it sad.

spontaneousgiventime · 07/05/2018 00:10

Don't worry reluctant, I've asked for my post to be deleted. I don't know if it is or isn't acceptable, so better to ere on the side of caution.

leyat · 07/05/2018 00:11

@tinycitrus this is the second post of yours that I have read in the last 10 minutes on two different threads where you are telling women they should not have the concerns they do and should not express themselves in the way they are. Maybe ask yourself why other women just doing them is so bothersome to you? Why haven't you simply tried to debate what it is that you feel is so missing from FWR by starting your own thread? Surely you understand that women aren't here to talk about only what you see value in.

hipsterfun · 07/05/2018 00:13

You could Google and decide for yourself, RC.

I don’t use it now, like I don’t use the m word.

Datun · 07/05/2018 00:14

Extraordinary thread. Real rollercoaster.

It's incredibly stressful for posters having to wonder whether to walk on eggshells, or confront with common sense and risk being banned.

And I personally don't understand it. I don't understand why HQ cannot stand up to TRAs. As someone has just said, they can make up their own rules.

It would be really quite simple just to say no. We are only deleting things that are quite evidently transphobic, in terms of the law.

So although I believe they are under pressure, I don't understand exactly where it's coming from. Pressure from TRAs can't actually do anything. (And yes I know SWAT teams, but surely no one is seriously modding on that basis).

So unless they have been warned by an advertiser I don't see where this leverage is really coming from.

ReluctantCamper · 07/05/2018 00:15

Ah, just seen the medical definition. gotcha.

pity. it's a word with good mouthfeel, just like the M one.

thebewilderness · 07/05/2018 00:16

It's so polarised atm and black and white. I find it sad.

That is what makes the conflict crystal clear in political fights.
Submit, or die, has been the theme song of the abusive male for generations. Women have been saying no to these demands for just as long.

Greymisty · 07/05/2018 00:16

I just googled the c word as I didn't actually know the meaning...yeah not a good word to use. Reported a poster (a TRA) the other day for using the m word and it was deleted.

leyat · 07/05/2018 00:16

@greymisty much of the gender debate really is black and white though. Many issues are like that. If you don't believe in innate gender then the whole debate is really largely straightforward.

spontaneousgiventime · 07/05/2018 00:17

Well, there you go. The FWR board has taught me something new today and I won't use that word again. Positives in negatives.

ReluctantCamper · 07/05/2018 00:18

I think it's because they're modding for all users Datun, and there are a significant number of vocal users who feel very differently, and would quite like gender critical feminists to pipe down please and stop making everyone feel uncomfortable by saying no to men.

Part of their job is to bear those people in mind.

As for the twitter thing? Yeah, I got nothing. Don't know what possessed them there.
