After 5 years on Twitter with not a single sanction of any kind I have been locked out for spam/abuse.

What did I do?

I posted an update of my "Ride For Murdered Women". I posted a picture of myself and my terminally ill best friend on the boat launch at Hornsea Mere.

Oh. And I refuse to acknowledge that biological males are women.

In the past when I raised petitions to prevent the then convicted rapist and now "not rapist" Ched Evans resuming a football career I received hundreds of death and rape threats. I was never abusive in return. I took it. I reported relatively few. I was never removed from Twitter though I don't doubt they tried.

I've got a chump still who stalks me and has in the past threatened to stab me to death in front of my daughter. His accounts are all over Twitter tweeting the names of rape victims.

But refusing to deny that my sex class exists and refusing to relinquish my established legal rights as a female ..... leads to males accusing me of abuse and Twitter saying "Yes. We will stop her doing that!"

I have women who DM me to discuss their abusive situations and ask advice. I never refuse to help a woman. I usually signpost to services and offer a comforting ear. It isn't a lot but it's a lot to them. I can't do that just now.

I post my rides on Twitter and now I can't. I can't honour those beautiful dead women killed by men because some other males need me to be silent.

I am disgusted today.

I'm so sorry. Press? Will journos take this up? It is an outrageous inequality.

SophoclesTheFox · 01/05/2018 07:10

That’s appalling, Jean. I am so sorry to hear that.

It is a new mccarthyism all right.

lightthedarkness · 01/05/2018 07:11

I am so very sorry. Your work is legendary as you respect all those women murdered by men. I can't think that any woman would object to what you do. Only a man.

FermatsTheorem · 01/05/2018 07:13

Bloody hell Jean.

I hate being tin foil hatty, but this really does look more and more like an orchestrated campaign to silence women.

I love what you're doing. Flowers to take on your next ride (virtual ones should pack up nice and small).

CATTinahat · 01/05/2018 07:32

So sorry Jean. Prominent women in this campaign are routinely targeted on Twitter, even when they are tweeting about other things.

If you can find a way to use your silencing to gain publicity, then do so. The way forward is to reveal how unreasonable they are. They’ve given you a lever, if you can use it.

Thank you for your campaign. And the assistance you give to women.

Toomanybourbons · 01/05/2018 07:36

God, that’s awful.

I wish we could have our own social networks, instead of the ones we have that are controlled by misogynist men and libfem handmaidens.

So sorry. Are you permanently banned?

changeypants · 01/05/2018 07:37

Fuck

Pratchet · 01/05/2018 07:40

Jean you are amazing and we are Spartacus. Are you still open to Twitter DM? The fact that they've done this means you are reaching too many women. It's a sign that you are changing minds and they want to stop you. All those minds you already changed are amplifying your voice right now.

Jeanhatchet · 01/05/2018 07:53

I've asked Bruce Daisley the MD to intervene so let's see what happens.

It is a perfect example of how aggressive the trans activist tactics are to silence women who dissent.

I could just blithely pretend none of this is happening to women and not stick my neck out to defend women's rights. But what kind of feminist would I be then? The fun kind? Pah.

OP posts:
Jeanhatchet · 01/05/2018 07:54

@Pratchet nope- I can't access my account at all. Not unless I give them my phone number and that I won't do. I've done nothing wrong. Why should I hand over sensitive data that risks my safety?

OP posts:
Pratchet · 01/05/2018 07:58

Oh right. Quite right too. But does that mean it's forever if you don't give them your number?

I've always given out my phone when they ask.

TERFragetteCity · 01/05/2018 08:03

i was locked out last week and had to give my phone number to them to get back in. I went in and deleted it as soon as I logged back in.

There were a fair few of us locked out at the same time.

0phelia · 01/05/2018 08:03

This is becoming a common theme.
Women are banned for misgendering. Banned for saying "men can't be lesbians".

Tweets like "I want to rip your head off" and graphic descriptions of WAWG are allowed to stand and the user to carry on.

TRAs are the worst.
There was a twitter account banned called "Exposing Trans Activists" What they did was screenshot abuse tweeted by TRAs and tweet it from their own account. There were thousands of tweets. That account got banned but the original tweets remained and the tweeters who were screenshotted remained.

I mean it's a definite conspiracy! It is very very anti GC feminist at Twitter HQ. There are TRAs and MRAs who work high up at Facebook and Twitter and probably all the others.

Pratchet · 01/05/2018 08:08

Yy Ophelia a MILLION times

Jeanhatchet · 01/05/2018 08:14

@TERFragetteCity can I do that? Give it to them and then delete?

They'd still have it stored though!

More importantly won't the TRAs just do it again? Isn't it up to Twitter to check?

The man who says he's coming for me with a Stanley knife. He can crack on without a ban. Saying you think female statistics should have integrity according to sex class. That must be ERASED!

Twitter need to sort this out. I'm sick of seeing women banned and suspended just for knowing what a woman is.

OP posts:
TERFragetteCity · 01/05/2018 08:17

It is just to send you a code to put in to access it again. Is there someone else's phone you can use?

Totally with you on the rest - but please be aware that twitter is run by anti-women techies.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 01/05/2018 08:21

I have a thing called Hush (I think it's pitched at cheating men, but I use it because I need a UK mobile number sometimes, but don't live in the UK, and don't visit regularly, so can't keep a PAYG alive)

You could get a temporary number with them, use it, then let the temporary number lapse.

Or skype do skype in - I wonder if you could use a pre-paid credit card to get a skype in number completely detatched from anything linked to you.

It's insane you'd need to do this stuff (and you do, as your stalker proves)

TERFragetteCity · 01/05/2018 08:25

Besides Jean - what you do in riding for dead women, all killed by men - is just astounding. You are a true icon. Flowers.

LangCleg · 01/05/2018 08:26

Jean - I think there is some algorithm that picks up GC language or terms, decides it's spam or bot-like and then demands a phone number to verify you as an actual person. If I go to your Twitter page now, I get:

Caution: This account is temporarily restricted You’re seeing this warning because there has been some unusual activity from this account. Do you still want to view it?

This means you've triggered the algorithm. If you supply your phone number, it won't see you as a bot/spammer any more and your account will go back to normal. As others have said, you can remove the phone number immediately after you get access back.

I'm pretty sure this isn't personal harassment but a matter of the Twatter having sexist/misogynist/anti-GC settings for this particular algorithm.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 01/05/2018 14:12

Flowers Jean

My twitter account was locked for 7 days yesterday, for similar GC postings. No doubt that they are targetting women. I have had previous bannings too, all for GC comments, no abuse (from me). I have received plenty though.

If you supply a phone number you can delete it afterwards, although yes, it's likely they will still have it. Or use a disposable PAYG number - buy one from local shop.

Be aware everyone that TRAs are screenshotting this thread and posting it on twitter

lightthedarkness · 01/05/2018 14:29

Surely trans activists wouldn't be calling this thread out on twitter? A woman who rides in memory of murdered women and she's a target of trans activists?
Maybe they're being trolled (just as Mumsnet is) by those seeking to cause dissent?

BlooperReel · 01/05/2018 14:52

Can we come up with a twitter protest on this? a # tweeted to Twitter and journalists? #ReinstateJeanHatchet #StopSilencingJean or something far more witty and stand out-ish than I can come up with?

R0wantrees · 01/05/2018 15:26

There are some TRA accounts promoting 'mass reports' using Twitter guidelines re 'protected characteristic'.
Also, I believe that there may be new Twitter guidelines which will prevent second accounts if an individual is banned and also permanent banning if there are a number of infringements.
see Danielle Muscato's tweet: twitter.com/DanielleMuscato/status/991064568603475968

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 01/05/2018 15:29

Well they can't prevent 2nd accounts if you use a VPN R0wan

R0wantrees · 01/05/2018 15:33

I think it would be more likely enforced by other twitter users identifying an account and then reporting it. So it may become a tool to try to silence people like Miranda Yardley, Venice etc.
