We will get there

Just want to give a few vibes out because it's been a little depressing on here today. We will do this. We will get there. Women of mumsnet, you are incredible, and when it's all over, your role will go down in feminist history.

Much dramatic. But I don't care Grin

I’m sure there were women in the suffragette movement who got hacked off with being told to get back in their box and stop making a fuss. Same for the generations of women that came after and persisted so we could enjoy the lives we have today. We can do this. Not only that, we owe it to our daughters, granddaughters and all those feisty women who came before us.

Clinicalwaste · 01/05/2018 21:28

We will win. I have donated, wriitten letters, talked, tweeted. This issue has made me and many others campaigners. I was never a campaigner before and have found a Courage I did not think I had. For me, my daughter, the women who went before and women who have no voice. We will Win, never give in.

BingBongSong · 01/05/2018 21:29

Thank you to all of the wise women here who continue to educate myself and others, tirelessly and patiently.

Reading Mumsnet over the past few days has left me feeling battered (only literally, mind!) and I totally get why posters need to step away from the boards for a bit. Flowers to @RedToothBrush, whose posts taught me so much about Brexit a few years ago.

I hope we get there. I am sick of the attempts to silence us.

DJLippy · 01/05/2018 21:48

Thank you to all the wonderful women of mumsnet. I've learned so much from you over past few months! Flowers

I made this playlist of inspiring feminism songs. It's open to anyone if they want a listen or to add any songs. I think I am going to run a bath and put it on, this day has been peak life!

Great playlist Lippy!

BingBongSong · 01/05/2018 22:28

Thanks @DJLippy!

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 01/05/2018 23:31

Thanks Pratchet I feel a great deal of despair sometimes but the women here inspire me. We have to keep going and I hope we'll get there.

Badgerthebodger · 01/05/2018 23:38

Love all the lovely wims on here, tirelessly fighting on against an absolute deluge of shite, some of which is so unbelievable it requires sheroic levels of patience. I was not a proper feminist before I found this board. I’m 31 and rather naively thought it was all sorted.

It’s very true that once you see it you can’t unsee it, but I’m glad! I don’t want to unsee it now, I want to shout about it and write letters and attend meetings and talk and talk with wonderful, passionate, knowledgable, strong women who all want to pull together to protect what we have and fight for a bit more. StarWine for everyone, you genuinely have made me see the world in a different way and put a rocket up my arse to do something about it.

Italiangreyhound · 02/05/2018 00:10

@hangry "a thing i really really hate is when watching syfi set in the far future there's still rape and misogyny and prostitution and stuff..."

I can 100% recommend the 100, new season soon.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_100_(TV_series)

"...loosely based on the 2013 book of the same name, the first in a series by Kass Morgan."

Loads of female role models, at least half of the heroes and some of the villains are female.

Best ever lesbian embrace between two of the main stars

Trigger warning some violence!

(And I'm not even a lesbian!)

It is a very violent programme, I normally can't watch this stuff but I manage this because it is so well made and generally the violence is not males against females. It's very futuristic and dark etc but I don't think it is sexist. Anyway, derailment over.

DJLippy · 02/05/2018 00:19

If you have Amazon Prime can I highly recommend 'Parks and Recreations'
It's about a small town female public servant who you will utterly fall in love with. Perfect antidote to the bile that is 2018. I'm going to put it on now and pretend that Leslie Knope is president, not That Man.

AnitaLovesVictor · 02/05/2018 00:22

God, I put on Parks & Recreation whenever I need a lift - which is a lot these days.... I love it so much.

LaSqrrl · 02/05/2018 00:42

Blythe: I got 'Nevertheless, she persisted.' tattooed on my arm at Easter, I'm 53 and never had a tattoo before.

Wow!
Isn't it ironic that one of the best contemporary feminist slogans was coined by a right wing dude complaining about a woman who just wouldn't shut up when his manly authority told her to?

It really sums up where we are, what we are doing, nevertheless she persisted. We keep getting told to stfu and accept M2Ts as women, and we keep persisting! I am now over a decade of persisting on this one, even though it went from bad to worse, and here we are now.

But what gives me hope, the number of women (and a few dudes) who are seeing past the fog of the cult. And no such thing as a lady-penis! I will persist! ReSISt and perSISt.

MrsWooster · 02/05/2018 00:42

Thank you for this thread. We WILL succeed in letting people know that women matter.
They all thought that a few dozen bonkers suffragettes would never get their wild demands heard but they did. And so will we.
60odd people on my Facebook doubtless roll their eyes when I post yet another gender crit thing but there has been 4 private messages about their own concerns and each one of them (all women, natch) may just speak to another couple of women and then... there's bloody loads of us! Rationality and fairness will ALWAYS triumph over intolerance and inequality in the end.

BiologyNotBigotry · 02/05/2018 01:28

I've also been feeling a bit worn down by it all recently. I look at MN & there's thread after thread about it. Sometimes I feel so helpless - like the world's gone mad & all I can do is stare, open-mouthed at the insanity. I've been reading this evening about the NUS conference - just, what?! How is this even a thing?! Confused

I'm now pondering how I can design a tattoo that'll look like "Nevertheless, she persisted." in the shape of an elephant with a bite out of it...

There has to be a story behind that.

thebewilderness · 02/05/2018 01:40

That would be so kewel. A snake of words around your wrist like a bracelet with a tiny elephant running away with a tiny chunk missing.

SpareRibFem · 02/05/2018 01:46

I won't be giving up the fight but fed up of it all the same. Helps hearing from others

DJLippy · 02/05/2018 02:44

I'm thinking of getting NO WOMAN HAS A PENIS on my forehead. Too much?

just > < this bit too much. Maybe round your collarbone?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 02/05/2018 06:28

There needs to be a breakdown to have a breakthrough. Awareness comes first (often accompanied by shock and depression) and then that is followed by acceptance and action.

Collective action is the most effective. WE are an amazing bunch on here and thanks to all for their support, words and action - it all contributes towards the snowball becoming an avalanche.

The more action we take in the real world the better. As opposed to getting bogged down on social media which is the abuser's playing field. No action is too small. I have faith in the great British public - it's a matter of getting through to them, irrespective of the toxic behaviour of those few on social media and in real life, whose bark is greater than their bite:

Toto pulls back a curtain and exposes the Wizard as a normal middle-aged man who has been projecting the fearsome image; he denies Dorothy's accusation that he is a bad man, but admits to being a humbug.

Would look great on a tee shirt :)

DJ

You could try softening with intertwined flowers maybe

Or a dragon?

Writersblock2 · 02/05/2018 08:30

@BingBongSong - great point actually, and one I’m guilty of forgetting: it’s okay to take a break, to rest, to self-care. We all need to re-energise ourselves so we can keep on fighting. Thank you for the reminder.

Also, I so want another tattoo now, to mark all of this...!
