Hello everyone

I know a lot of people have been asking for template letters to send to their MPs so I have consulted with the other members of Sex Matters and come up with a template which I hope will help.

I have gone for a format which I hope will enable you to pick and choose which issues mean the most to you. I think MPs are best approached on one or two issues which you feel passionate about and can perhaps expand on the information I have given.

It is really important to personalise these letters as much as you can. The best results so far have come from people meeting their MP or MSP so if you feel able to do that please include it in your letter. The template letter is intended as a guide to help you get started, with links to evidence for any issues raised.

I will be refining the template as we go along, so if there is an issue which isn't covered please just let me know. Equally, if you think there is an issue which isn't quite right please tell me and I will amend it.

Yes, please! I'm not v eloquent & find my MP somewhat creepy so I've been putting off writing. I was going to just send him some of the articles I've read recently that sum up a lot of the issues & ask him to read them & give me his thoughts on self-ID. A template & a proper letter sounds like a better idea!

Past the 50 mark! I’m on holiday this week so it might take me a few days to reply - do keep sending PMs and I will get through them. It feels great to be doing something so positive, there are so many negative and frankly frightening stories at the moment and I hope we can use the power of Mumsnet to at least bring the debate into the light.

I would absolutely support trans people having a third space - we need to be able to talk about this and I think MPs are in a great position to kick start the conversation.

Not the same as me then, Buffering. I will go and see if I can meet mine.

Please could you PM me the template too @Badgerthebodger? I don't know where my MP stands on this, but he does tend to put the interests of the constituency before the party, so I'm hopeful!

Hi everyone

Just checking in again to bump and say I am once again up to date on PMs - if anyone has asked for a template and not received it please PM me and I will send it over.

We are now at a fantastic total of 85 templates sent out so far. There are lots and lots of MPs who haven't had any letters so far so please please please write to your MP and tell them your thoughts. They really do not know unless we shout up what a problem this will be if Self-ID is passed.

Nice work. I'm happy to forward correspondence I've had with my Labour MP, including their template letter.

@Badgerthebodger can you send me the Template? I hold no hope for my MP ( Labour) but it's still worth sending.

I have written my letter and will post it tomorrow. The template was very helpful thank you and I have heavily personalised it and referenced the latest interventions by Liz Truss and David T C Davies and the forthcoming presentations in Parliament by Stonewall and WPUK(?). Happy to send a copy if you want it. Not sure if I can do this by PM?

My MP is Conservative and in a true blue seat.
Also, I read somewhere that the Conservatives are embarking on their formal consultation. Should I copy it somewhere else as well?

I wrote to my M.P. a few weeks ago about this but haven't yet heard anything back. That is a little unusual because in the past they have responded quickly. I'll leave it a bit longer before following up.
