Interesting article. Also slightly touches on #ManFriday

I agree, DestinysDaughter. Complete and utter silence in The Guardian. It's been covered by most of the major newspapers now (notable exceptions being The FT and The Telegraph).

The Guardian do love their trans ideology articles, though, provided it's TIM.

TerfsUp · 20/03/2018 09:59

Great comments in the Metro article.

TerfsUp · 20/03/2018 10:01

I love this comment: "bigot: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group with hatred and intolerance."

Guess who it's from? Clue: not a terf.

3EyedRaven · 20/03/2018 10:03

Don’t know why people are surprised about the guardian not printing anything.
It’s just like any other shitty rag with an agenda to push. And it’s agenda is ‘lefty liberal’ (which has never given a shit about feminism).

whoputthecatout · 20/03/2018 11:33

TerfsUp The Telegraph did cover it yesterday. Can't see it on an online search now but it was in the print edition.

SuitedandBooted · 20/03/2018 11:44

Can't get on Facebook comments as I am at work (shh!). But someone might like to point out that Lily Madigan, a Woman's Constituency Officer for Labour, is a Transwomen, using self ID, and has now come out as a lesbian.

What?!!

TerfsUp · 20/03/2018 12:21

Thanks, whoputthecatout. I didn't know that so I stand corrected!

TerfsUp · 20/03/2018 12:23

now come out as a lesbian

Ah, the Riley J Dennis School of Lesbianism: straight male likes women.

Vickxy · 20/03/2018 13:54

“if you’re assaulted in the loo it’s against the law, the criminal justice system will deal with rapist”

I don't understand this argument to be honest. As surely the same can be said of transwomen in male areas? If they are assaulted, then the criminal justice system will deal with it? So therefor, if the justice system can deal with any law breaking, keep single sex areas single sex as has always been.

Pratchet · 20/03/2018 14:01

Great piece. The more it's shared, and the more it gets Metro and Rebecca followers on social media, it will encourage them to do more articles the same.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 20/03/2018 14:01

For those doubters who didn't think a couple of women getting their boobs out

Way to hit mainstream media: show men women's breasts.

Played them.

Ah, the Riley J Dennis School of Lesbianism: straight male likes women.

If she's still male, then going into a lesbian relationship, that is completely and totally trampling and erasing lesbianism then, surely??
If this is the case, how the HELL is this even allowed to happen without questioning?! No fucking wonder there's a no debate thing, because if you do it exposes the sheer WTF!!! about it all.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 20/03/2018 14:12

This paper has listed LM as one of 6 young women in UK politics you should know about.

Tons of infighting going on.

KatherinaMinola · 20/03/2018 14:29

I don't like the article. Very keen to distance herself from the "TERFs" and the Man Friday women.

"While I don’t share the Man Friday group’s feelings about trans women"

(What does she think those feelings are? Which views does she not agree with?)

"The TERF (trans exclusionary radical feminist) stance is that ‘no penis should be in a female changing room’. It’s is extremely hard line (many transwomen can’t afford surgery), and I wince when I see the kind of aggression being levelled at trans people in their discussions."

All very arse-covering.

LangCleg · 20/03/2018 14:48

"While I don’t share the Man Friday group’s feelings about trans women"

That originally said

"While I don’t share the Man Friday group’s phobia about trans women"

She was called on it on Twitter and rushed off to edit.

I also think the article was a bit on the cowardly side but I'm not going to get cross about it. This is the same journey most of us took - realising something's a bit wrong but not wanting to upset anyone or scared of the consequences if we did. Hopefully, the author will continue further down the path to reality and what's important is that this article would not have been published a year ago. The dam is breaking.

AntiGrinch · 20/03/2018 14:49

Yes I agree, very arse-covering - there is this assumption being adopted that there is a vicious cruelty towards transwomen that the writer should dissociate herself from.

I don't know if it matters though. Unless the writer says something defamatory about someone in particular- "feminist A made slur against person B" - then is it really harmful if we all sort of solemnly nod along with some idea that some people are MEAN and we don't want to be?

AntiGrinch · 20/03/2018 14:49

I guess it does matter if everyone does solemnly nod along but this sort of tone makes it possible for the "awwww" kids (head on one side empathetic millennials) to get on board

KatherinaMinola · 20/03/2018 18:17

Yes, I think that was what I was objecting to - the "I'm the fun kind of cool-with-that feminist, not like those old crones" message.

But it's also true that it's movement in the right direction, and it's good to see young people questioning the agenda - less likely to be written off as bigots.

Fluffymcflufftown · 20/03/2018 18:21

Big up and nuff love to the #manfriday crew! You ladies are flipping inspiring! It's because of you that this article has happened 👏👏👏

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 18:25

There have been quite a few over the last coulke of days... articles saying it out loud

The Trans Emperor has no clothes!

SunsetBeetch · 20/03/2018 20:22

Oh bloody hell what a load of shit

Pratchet · 20/03/2018 20:28

Death, as trans people are frequently homophobic that could leave the reporter in a bit if a bind
