Not really a fan but DS likes him so we’ve just sat and watched his new stand up show on Netflix.

I was pulling this face Shock

He certainly isn’t pulling any punches on the subject of dead naming, being forced to believe ‘transwomen are women’ or Caitlin Jenner etc.

He’s got to be getting a lot of abuse for that surely?!

I wonder if he would retweet the petition?

It's certainly worth drawing his attention to it (and that of his followers who I think would generally agree), and to Posies case too.

Watching now, so glad he has done this, highlights the absurdity of it

I just watched it as well. Funny how he didn't say a critical word and yet ripped the whole issue open for the farce that it is.

Yes exactly.

Comedian does what they've done since time immemorial & lays bare a ridiculous situation.

Women cheer! 'Thank fuck, someone else who gets it and isn't scared of vocalising the absurdity of it - maybe this will be the realisation moment for loads of others'.

Lefty, right-on type brocialist laughs & agrees - then realises he is not adequately virtue-signalling the current in-vogue dogma - so hastily proceeds to mansplain how 'awful the subtext' is.

Quelle surprise 🙄

I didn't like him until now. Now I'm in love.

Well it’s good that he’s on side with the trans narrative but given his shows are renowned for things like using the word “mong” and his awful fat shaming jokes I think it’s safe to say he’s not especially feminist and that his jokes would be seen as courting controversy rather than anything else.

The "mong" remark was 7 years ago and he apologised.

And?
His whole trans bit involved not pretending the past didn't happen.

And it's about time people shut up about it.

Why, surely that is hypocrisy?

Let's pretend he isn't a disablist twat....

Report
EllieMe · 14/03/2018 15:18

Why? Because it was 7 years ago, he apologised and people are still droning on about it. Tedious. Like no one else ever said something daft.

His whole trans bit is about not forgetting the past, and how stupid it is to try and retroactively change it....

Let's 'forget' other things shall we?

Look at all the thing Trump did, in the past.
People should forget about it, he's apologised and so on, he's changed.

How about the "mistakes" Paul Golding has made, we should forget them, it's in the past.

He's a comedian, he's never held himself up as some sort of moral superior.
I find him funny sometimes, other times not - as with all comedians.

I think his parodying of the trans thing is spot on.

One of the biggest problems with the 'progressive liberal' schtick is that they can't possibly be seen to be in agreement with someone who holds other views that are less than savoury.

This has proved to be their biggest achilles heel wrt many things - self ID & trans being one imo.

It's my opinion he's a disablist twat, and people shouldn't forget when other people commit act of discrimination and hate speech.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 14/03/2018 15:33

Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that word. My point was that the fact he said it will impact on how people view his shows and material. People think he’s out to shock. I’m.not sure he is, but that’s how he’s perceived by many.

I agree his trans parody is spot on and a lot of his material that gets criticised has a valid point, but he doesn’t always get it right.
