“When is it International Men’s Day?” (copied from Chat in case anyone missed it)

You may know that the comedian Richard Herring spends International Woman’s Day on Twitter answering this question (19th November). This year he is using it as a way of raising funds for Refuge. Here is the Just Giving page should anyone feel inclined.........

Women’s Day traditions come from Russia (where it called the 8th of March). It’s like a more inclusive version of Mother’s Day and arose from a lack of a day to celebrate women (men were celebrated as a bunch on the equivalent Veteran’s Day). So originally the thought process actually was “So why don’t women get a day too?” Rather ironically I suppose.

International mens day ??? Its always international men's day - because patriarchy !

Pagwatch · 07/03/2018 15:27

Richard Herrings does a brilliant job. His feed is endless and it's funny and frustrating by turn

For anyone who doesn't know - his whole point is mocking men who whine 'but what about men's day'

BertrandRussell · 07/03/2018 15:29

International Men's Day (19 Nov) is also World Toilet Day. This has always made me smile.

Iminthecclubnow · 07/03/2018 16:06

No one ever gives a fuck about International Men's Day apart from in the context of taking away from International Women's Day.

So looking forward to being told what we are and are not allowed to celebrate/raise awareness about tomorrow... I'm guessing reproductive issues will be a no no.

splendide · 07/03/2018 16:08

Thanks for the link - I’ve given a tenner!

Jaxhog · 07/03/2018 16:09

Every other day?

Popchyk · 08/03/2018 09:56

Richard Herring has so far raised 33K for Refuge on International Women's Day by searching for people asking when International Men's Day is on Twitter, and then responding to them.

This is his Twitter feed

One of the latest tweets from him:

"Newspapers/radio stations etc. I don’t do interviews about this because I am busy and because it’s International Women’s Day so please interview some women about that. Ta"

I've already seen comments on social media from women along the lines of "what rights do men have that I don't, what a pointless day". It's so sad and short sighted that even women are reluctant to accept and take part in a day for women.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 08/03/2018 10:59

This is brilliant! (& your OP was clear)
£41k!!

I wonder whats his take on TG women and their entry into female refugees .

Xenophile · 08/03/2018 14:51

Don't know, Children, but he's on Twitter right now, so you could ask him?

fruitbrewhaha · 08/03/2018 15:01
